GEORGE BEN HODGE
BARREN SPRINGS – George Ben Hodge, age 64, of Barren Springs, Va. born in Wythe County, son of the late Robert W. and Virginia Ayers Hodge. He was preceded in went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 from New River Valley Medical Center. He was death by his wife, Ollie White Gibson; a brother, John Gibson; a sister, Mary Reed; three half-brothers, Billy, Cecil and Clayton Cregger.

He is survived by a brother, Robert L. Gibson, Max Meadows; a half-brother, Samuel Cregger, Max Meadows; two half-sisters, Mrs. Preston Gravely and Mrs. Maggie Peak of Max Meadows; special nieces and caregivers, Bonnie Woodyard and Zona Lindsey of Dublin; also several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dublin Church of God with the Rev. Michael Collins and Rev. Don Weaver officiating. Burial in the Thornspring born Aug. 15, 1916 to the late Woodson and Ingle Dove Mitchell. She is preceded in Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

MAVIS LEA O’BRYAN SMITH
SYLVA, N. C. – Mavis Lea O’Bryan Smith, age 63 of Sylva, N. C. Born June 21, 1941 in Glen Fork, W. Va., she is the daughter of Audie Atkins O’Bryan of Dublin, Va. and the late Walter O’Bryan.

Surviving are: her husband, John Douglas Smith, Sylva, N.C.; mother, Audie T. Atkins O’Bryan, Dublin; daughter, Linda Lea Woodward, Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, John Douglas Smith, II, Sylva, N.C., Jerry Ryan Smith, Columbus, Ga., Richard Walter Smith, Sylva, N.C.; five grandchildren; brother, Walter O’Bryan, Jr., Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Wanda M. Kirk, Glade Hill, Va., Lana Joyce Lusk, Davin, W. Va., Sharon J. Lunsford, Upton, Ky.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. J. P. Hale officiating. passed away Monday, February 7, 2005. She was a member of Carter Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Carter Street UMC, P. O. Box 3296, Radford, VA 24143. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

NUEL KIRTLAND SHOMAKER
DUBLIN - Nuel Kirtland Shomaker, age 75 of Dublin, Born May 20, 1929 in Erwin, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas Frank Shomaker and Fern Towe Shomaker. He was a member of the Heritage Church Assembly of God in Dublin, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a retired land developer and home builder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. Visiting will be anytime after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, but for those who wish, they may make memorial contributions to the D-Day Memorial P.O. MAVIS LEA O’BRYAN SMITH
SYLVA, N. C. – Mavis Lea O’Bryan Smith, age 63 of Sylva, N. C. death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Jeannie Whitt Blackburn, and two sons, Cadell and Nathan Blackburn. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired supervisor at Lynchburg Foundry. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Radford with Rev. O. D. Morgan and Rev. Brian Cochran officiating. passed away Friday , August 5, 2005 at New River Valley Medical Center. She was a life long member of the Cornersview Pentecostal Holiness Church in Snowville and Co-Owner of Thornton's Greenhouse in Snowville.

She was preceded in Interment will follow in the Pentecostal Conference passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Helen Payne Head.

She is survived by; husband, William “Billy” Cook, of Wytheville; five sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Alishia Cook, of Rural Retreat, Robbie and Shawna Head, of Radford, William and Brandi Cook Jr., of Wytheville, Jason and Shelly Cook, of Foster Falls, Dean and Alice Cook, of Christiansburg; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrna and Johnny Sexton, of Avondale, W. Va., Deborah Boyd, of Galax, Virginia and Randy Holderfield, of Galax, Anita and Rick Landerth, of Pulaski; extra special grandson, Mitchell Ryan Cook; six grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, in the Grubb Funeral Chapel with Rev. G. T. Monday and Rev. Robert Huddler officiating, with the Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 6 at Grubb Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

VIRGINIA SMITH ALDERMAN
HILLSVILLE - Virginia Smith Alderman, age 80 of Hillsville death by her husband James A. Alderman Sr.
She is survived by three daughters & sons-in-law Shirley & George Moore of Gastonia, NC, Pat & John Worrell of Blacksburg, and Linda & Roger Stilwell of Pulaski; sons & daughter-in-law James A. Jr. & Fay Alderman of Hillsville and Dennis Michael Alderman of Blacksburg; three grandchildren & spouse Christine Stilwell Carico, Heidi Lynne & Rodney Dalton and A. J. Worrell; one great grandchild Shonda Marie Carico; one great grandchild to be Madisyn Q. Dalton and special caregiver Delores McDonnell.

Funeral services will be Saturday August 6, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville. The Rev. Richard Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial born July 10, 1945 in Pulaski, Va. and graduated from Pulaski High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Germany. Master Sgt. Poindexter moved to Wilmington in the early 70's and worked as an auto mechanic for the City of Wilmington. He continued his military service with the Delaware Army National Guard and served as a NCO and an automotive maintenance technician until May 2005. David was a member of Chippey Chapel AUM Church. During his years in Del., he was also a member of the Enlisted Association of the United States American Legion Post #12 and the Thunderguard Motorcycle Club.

Viewing was held at the Simpson United Methodist Church, 907 Centreville Road, Wilmington, Del. from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3 and this morning August 4 from 8:30 - 10:15 a.m. A Interment followed in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Del. Arrangements by Congo Funeral Home. _
