BOBBY MONROW BATCHELOR
DUBLIN – Bobby Monrow Batchelor, age 64, of Dublin, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Monday, April 25, 2005. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005. H. M., as he was known to family, is a veteran of the Second World War. Haney enjoyed a good baseball game, had a passion for model trains, and never passed up a good card game. He was a father who was proud of his four sons, and loved his grandchildren and great-grandson. Preceding him in born to the late Oakley James McPeak and Elise Bishop Burke McPeak in Kathy’s Lodge, Newbern on June 18, 1930. He retired from Lane Enterprises in Dublin in 1996.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emmogene Burke McPeak of Pulaski; his two daughters and sons-in-law Betty and Johnny McGee of Pulaski and Teresa and Butch Arnold of Max Meadows; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. J.C. and Renetta McPeak of Wytheville and Bobby Wayne and Judy McPeak of Pulaski; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys Burke of Pulaski, Virginia “Sis” and James Tolbert of Dublin, Frances and Bob Shockney of Savage, Maryland, and Vernie and Donald Adkins of Radford; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Patricia McPeak of Pulaski; two step-sisters and spouse, Eva Jay and Emmett Tolbert of Pulaski and Mary Kate Christian of Dublin; one step-brother and spouse, Mancel and Ruth Burke of Radford; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was a member of the Newbern Church of God where the visitation will be held on Sunday, April 24, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.Cemetery, Pulaski County.

EMMA JANE SEMONES CLARK
BARREN SPRINGS - Emma Jane Semones Clark, age 90, of Barren Springs, VA born January 17, 1915 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Fred Lewis and Hettie Dalton Semones. She was a member of Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church and was preceded in Interment will follow in the Clark Family died Thursday April 21, 2005. He was a member of the Shiloh Christian Church.

Surviving are: his wife, Alice Joan Callahan, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Regina C. Farris and Carl S. Farris, Jr. of Hillsville; sons, Matthew Paul Callahan, Richmond, Va., Gregory Neal Callahan, Hickory, N.C., James Patrick Callahan and his wife Donna Callahan of Hawaii; six grandchildren; one surviving brother, Lewis Callahan, Dublin, Va.; sisters, Audrey Pike, Wytheville, Ruth Coe, Wytheville, Joyce Hackler, Wytheville, Vickie Eddy, Roanoke, Thelma Callahan, Wytheville.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at Grubb Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va.Interment will follow in the West End died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was Cemetery with Rev. J. P. Hale officiating. There will be no visitation.

HARVEY EUGENE RINGGOLD
Harvey Eugene Ringgold, age 78, departed this life on Sept. 21, 2005 unexpectedly. He was preceded in funeral service will be held at the same site beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Doyle presiding. born in Pulaski County Oct. 28, 1936, death by sister, Thelma S. Pifer.

Mr. Simpson is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Carolyn H. Simpson, two sons and daughters-in-law Ronald C. Simpson, Jr. “Randy” and Robin P. Simpson of Columbia, S.C. and Patrick H. Simpson and Sue T. Simpson of Winston-Salem, N.C., seven grandchildren Christine, Stacy, Kevin and Sarah Simpson of Columbia, S.C., Turner, Anna Catherine and Claire Simpson of Winston-Salem, N.C. Brother and wife William A. Simpson and Betty Simpson of Winston-Salem, N.C. Brother John R. Simpson of Pinehurst, N.C. and brother-in-law Thomas H. Pifer of Dublin, Va.

Mr. Simpson was an active member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir, served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a member of Thorn Spring Country Club and Pulaski Country Club, served on both Boards and served two terms as President of Thorn Spring Country Club. He was an active member in the community in previous years, he attended and worked on the Pulaski Rotary Club, Dublin Ruritan Club and was a volunteer for the Dublin Fire Department.

Mr. Simpson graduated from Lynchburg College in 1958 with a degree in Business. From 1958 until 1964 he was in business with his father-Ray C. Simpson Trucking Company. He was elected to the Treasurer’s office of Pulaski County and served from 1964-1970. In addition, he served as Vice President of Virginia Treasurers’ Association in his last year in office. Mr. Simpson founded Simpson Construction Company in Dublin, Va. in 1971 and the Company continues to operate under this name today.

Throughout his life and his career, Mr. Simpson was known for his kindness of heart, humility, and his competitive spirit. He was an avid bird hunter and golfer and he spent much of his time chasing either “little brown birds that live in the woods” or “little white balls around the golf course”. Those that have accompanied him on any of these endeavors over the years have been blessed with a memory that is everlasting. He will be forever missed by family, friends, bird hunters and golfers alike.

The family will receive friends at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. A service celebrating his life will be held at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, you may send contributions to Fairlawn Capitol Improvement Fund, 6900 Pulaski Avenue, Radford, Va. 24141 or the charity of choice.

CLARENCE ROBERT LONG, JR.

PULASKI - Clarence Robert Long, Jr., age 79 of Pulaski, Born May 8, 1926 in Thomasville, North Carolina he was the son of the late Clarence Robert Long, Sr. & Cora Blanche Cruff Long. His wife, Gladys Irene Hughes Long, one sister, Helen Akers, one daughter, Barbara Sue Stiltner, one son, Franklin Leon Long & two infant sons also preceded him in Interment will follow at the Hickman Family passed away Thursday, September 21, 2005 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, a purple heart recipient, and a rural mail carrier who retired from the United States Postal Service with 25 years of service.

Surviving are: his wife, Evelyn Ruth Moore Wooten, Dublin; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Jannett Wooten, Christiansburg, Peter Jeff and Chelsey Wooten, Dublin, Paul Wooten, Jr. and Ramona Wooten, Gadsden, Ala.; daughters and son-in-law, Pauletta (Paula) Ruth Chinault, Pulaski, Evelyn (Ann) Angelina Austin and Wakely Austin, Lynch Station, Va.; brother, Halbert Wooten, Talladega, Ala.; sisters and brother-in-law, Christine Hurst, Gadsden, Ala., Evelyn and Bob Daugherty, Lincoln, Ala.; grandchildren, Dana Turner, Nikki Banks, Ashlea Wooten, Chris Austin, Marty Austin, Brian Austin, Michael Wooten, Paula Knowles, Gina Wooten; eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the New River Baptist Temple with the Rev. Rick Bolick officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin where the V.F.W. Post #776 will conduct military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski.
