Addie Price

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Elder Addie P. Price, 86, of 5329 Malcolm Street, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 in Philadelphia.

Born April 25, 1916 in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was a daughter of William S, Wimbush and Dora W. Wimbush.

She was married to Herbert O. Price, who predeceased her. She was a laborer for Dibrell Brothers, Inc. and was the founder and pastor of Gospel Light Holiness Church, Sylvan Road.

Survivors include one son, Melvin L. Payne of Danville, Va.; two brothers, William Wimbush of Detroit, Mich. and Paul Wimbush of Philadelphia; nine sisters, Ollie Lipford, Mabel Wimbush, Cora Wimbush, and Ethel W. Loney, all of Danville, Va., Viola Graves and Odessa Allen, both of Philadelphia, and Annie L. Carter, Sue Frances Wimbush, and Bandella Wimbush, all of Detroit, Mich.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel with Elder Laura Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel, and at other times at the residence of her sister, Mabel Wimbush, 304 Overby Street.

Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Terry

DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Terry, 78, formerly of 1487 Aspen Street, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born October 8, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Wilson Terry and Nettie Beck Terry.

She was married to Herman Miller, who predeceased her and she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one sister, Queen Stone of Danville.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Mine Creek Progressive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Keith Shuler officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her niece, Rosa Fitzgerald, 1638 Washington Street, Danville, Va.

Edward ‘Cluck' Adams

GREENSBORO, N.C.-Edward "Cluck" Adams, 67, of 918 Hackett St., died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Wesley Long Hospital.

Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Danville, Va., he was the son of William George Adams and Louise Adams.

He was retired from his own lawn care business.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammy Adams, Cynthia Adams, and Donna Bowman, all of Danville, Va.; one son, Edward Adams of Danville, Va.; and one brother, Willie Adams of Danville, Va.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Tammy Adams, 145 Davenport St. in Danville, Va.

Bernice Atkinson

DANVILLE, Va. - Bernice Johnston Atkinson, 50, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the residence.

Born Feb. 12, 1952, in Martinsville, she was the daughter of Mildred Marlowe Johnston, who survives, and Richard Johnston.

She lived most of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith. She was employed at Dan River Mills prior to her retirement due to declining health. She had been in declining health for several years prior to entering Roman Eagle, where she had resided for the past nine years.

Survivors include two daughters, Millie Adkins of Danville, and April Oakes of Sutherlin; two sisters, Margie McCrickard of Motley, and Pat Grubbs of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, Ronald Johnston of Altavista; and three grandchildren.

The graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at County Line Christian Church cemetery in Henry County with the Rev. Michael Wiles officiating.

The family will be at the residence of Millie Adkins, 385 Sycamore Circle.

Joyce Boyd

SOUTH BOSTON, Va.-Joyce Ann Rice Boyd, 60, of 338-B Woodcrest Apartments, died March 17, 2002, at Medical College of Virginia.

Born Aug. 27, 1941, in South Boston, she was the daughter of Ernest Eldon Rice Sr. and Minnie Mary Crews Rice.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses.

Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Ann Boyd of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Rickey Lee Boyd of Danville, and Tony Wayne Boyd of Fuqua-Varina, N.C.; one sister, Alease Rowe of South Boston; five brothers, John Rice of Wake Forest, N.C., Eldon Rice, Allen Rice, and Aubrey Rice, all of South Boston, and Earl Rice of Cluster Springs; and five grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother, Curtis Rice.

The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Stephen Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

William Cain

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -William "Bill" R. Cain, 60, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the residence.

Born November 11, 1942 in Danville, Va., he was the son of James W. and Laura Cain.

He was married to Rikki Cain, who survives. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was a former member of USMC and a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military career, Mr. Cain worked for Allied Supermarkets, Hanford's Wholesale Flowers, and Nabisco/Kraft Foods.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include his children, William "Bill" R. Cain Jr. of Greenville S.C., Bryan E. Cain of Fort Smith, Ark., Trent Bowers, and Tracy Bowers both of Charlotte; one brother, Thomas Cain of Haw River, one sister, Prescilla Cain Foster of Danville, Va.; and three grandchildren.

The graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crown Memorial Park in Pineville, with the Reverend Glenn Stephenson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Road and other times will be at the Cain home.

The family suggest donations may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204, or the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.

Pauline Cousins

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -Pauline D. "Polly" Cousins, 81, of 337 Greyson St., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 28, 1921, in Henry County, she was the daughter of James Cleophus Draper and Lucy Campbell Draper.

She was married to Fred Cousins, who predeceased her in 1996. She and her husband operated Cousins Brothers Store for approximately 45 years. She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 14 years and was a member of the WMU and Friendship Bible Class.

Survivors include one daughter, Lucy Gayle Mason of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Hugh Dyer Draper of Bassett; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one brother, James C. Draper Jr.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials may be made to McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, 107 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

James ‘Bud' Eanes

GRETNA, Va. - James Filmore "Bud" Eanes, 76, of 396 Zion Road, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville following 11 months of declining health and four days in the hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Henry County, he was a son of Jesse Eanes and Sallie Belcher Eanes.

He was married Oct. 3, 1970, to Lenora Brooks Eanes, who survives. He attended Sheva Baptist Church and had been a resident of Gretna since 1976. He retired as a foreman from English Construction Company, where he had worked since 1964. After his retirement, he worked for Food Lion and Amos' Fine Food.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Kimberly E. Maitlen of Moline, Ill.; one stepson, Forrest Lynn Crank of Forest; one stepdaughter, Denise G. Wright of Sun Valley, Calif.; one brother, Doyle Eanes of Ringgold; three sisters, Kate E. Meeler of Danville, Sue E. Hall of Eden, N.C. and Delma E. Brasome of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one sister, Carline E. Wyatt.

The memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Joseph C. Bradford officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times will be at the residence.

Pearl Emerson

DANVILLE, Va. - Pearl Constance Mitchell Emerson, formerly of Danville, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the residence of her daughter in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Born Nov. 30, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Mack Mitchell and Kate Moore Mitchell.

She was married Jan. 30, 1937, to James Aubrey Emerson, who predeceased her in 1984. She was a homemaker and had worked at Roman Eagle Memorial Home for over 20 years prior to her retirement.

Survivors incldue one son, James Douglas Emerson of Danville; six daughters, Emma E. Adkins of Pelham, N.C., Jewell E. Abbott of Danville, Faye M. Harbrant of Chevy Chase, Md., Linda E. Johnson of Dry Fork, Glenda E. Page of Williamsburg, and Patricia E. Nash of Elizabeth City, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Lackey and the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Dry Fork Pentecostal Fire-Baptized Holiness Church cemetery on Dry Fork Road.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Townes Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of Linda E. Johnson, 552 Johnson Road in Dry Fork.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Albermarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189 Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909.

Frances Griffin

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. -Janie Frances Holley Griffin, 72, of 3848 Foster Road, died March 20, 2002, at Johnston Willis Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Va. following seven years of declining heatlh.

Born April 21, 1929, in Charlotte Court House, Va., she was the daughter of Lonnie Holley and Laura Doss Holley.

She was married March 28, 1947, to Junior Franklin Griffin, who survives. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County, Va. and Providence community of Caswell County. She worked for Dan River Inc. where she ran a drawing machine and operated a bobbing machine at the time of her retirement with 45 years service. She was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church and was an active member of Ladies Circle prior to a decline in health.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two daughters, Linda G. Fender of Colonial Heights, Va., and Sandra G. Gerri of Danville, Va.; one brother, George Holley of Dinwiddie, Va.; three sisters, Lula H. Mihleder of Erie, Penn., Ruby H. Davis of Danville, Va., and Hazel H. Rose of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Paul Wade officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home an other times at the residence, off of Park Springs Road in Caswell County.

Don Lee Henderson

MARTINEZ, Calif. - 1929-2002

Don Lee Henderson of Martinez, California passed away at home on March 17, 2002 at the age of 72. He is the beloved son of Marvin and Lucille Henderson.

He is survived by his loving wife Marlene; children Shelley H. and John Zovickian of Oakland, CA, Michael and Ginger Henderson of Chatham, VA; Marvin and Karen Henderson of Clayton, CA; and step-children; Frank Smith of Napa, CA; Scott and Carrie Smith of Benicia, CA; Wendy and Joe Pighini of Napa, CA; and grandchildren Joseph, Haley, Zachary, Jessie, Cassidy, Kayla, Lindsey, Brad, Angelo, Kathryn, Anthony, Jolene, and Jessica. Also, cousins Jackie Robers and Bobbie Peaslee of Iowa.

He served in the Navy on the battleship U.S.S. Iowa during the Korean War and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Martinez. He was a successful businessman, an avid outdoorsman, traveled extensively, and loved his music. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He will be laid to rest at a private ceremony with Full Military Honors at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the California Waterfowl Association.

Herman Parrish

HURT, Va. - Herman Perkins Parrish, 95, of 824 Pocket Road, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Hurt.

Born Nov. 3, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Tom Parrish and Elizabeth Shelton Parrish.

He was married to Stella Parsons Parrish, who predeceased him. He was a member of Altavista Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Archer Parrish of Dry Fork and Edwin Parrish of Danville, and one sister, Mary Lou P. Owen of Plainsburg, N.J.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham with the Rev. Paul Ferguson and the Rev. Byron Jones officiating.

The family received friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home.

Bernard Terry

KEELING, Va. - Bernard Clifton Terry, 56, of 7904 Slatesville Road, died March 21, 2002, at the residence following one year of declining health.

Born Feb. 23, 1946, in Halifax County, he was the son of Clifton Eugene Terry and Macie Maude Wilkerson Terry.

He was married to Charlotte Marie Turner Terry, who survives. He lived all of his life in Halifax County and the Keeling community of Pittsylvania County. He worked several years for the Westinghouse Plant in South Boston prior to working as a clerk at Paul's Place in Keeling. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and a member of Kent Masonic Lodge 305.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of Danville, include two daughters, Teresa Ann Chandley of Marshall, N.C., and Cynthia Dawn Whitson of Erwin, Tenn.; one son, Clifton Eugene Terry of Marshall, N.C.; two stepsons, Jeffrey Wells of Greensboro, N.C., and Anthony Wells of Raleigh, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Michelle Wells of Axton; three sisters, Pauline T. Hawker, and Betty T. Perkins, both of Keeling, and Frances T. Owen of Halifax County; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Arbor Baptist Church in Halifax County with the Rev. Herman Absher officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Masonic graveside rites performed by Kent Masonic Lodge 305.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times will be at the residence of Pauline Hawker, 3357 Mount Tabor Road in Keeling.
