Raymond Dixon
Bricklayer

Raymond Dixon, 85, of Leesburg died Feb. 22, 1998.

Mr. Dixon was a retired bricklayer.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Dixon; and three sisters: Elizabeth Reed of Aldie, and Irene Easter and Helen Moore, both of Arlington.

The Rev. Chester Banks will lead a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Aldie. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Agnes Warren
Middleburg resident

Agnes Riddle Warren, 91, of Middleburg, died Feb. 21, 1998.

Mrs. Warren was the widow of the late Melvin Warren.

She is survived by two daughters, Sara Warren Varden of Fairfax and Barbara C. Warren of New York City, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Warren Jr.

The Rev. Bill Thigpen led a funeral service Feb. 24 at Middleburg Baptist Church. Interment was in Middleburg Memorial Cemetery.

Melinda Lou Haseleu
Administrative assistant

Melinda Lou Haseleu, 41, of Bealeton, died Feb. 23, 1998, a her home.

Miss Haseleu died in her sleep after a long and vigorous battle with cancer. She was a graduate of James Madison High School in Vienna and of Lord Fairfax Community College. She worked as an administrative assistant at Academy Doors.

She was born July 1, 1956, in Mount Lebanon, Pa., a daughter of Lloyd C. and Katherine B. Haseleu, who survive.

Other survivors include a daughter, Betty Kathryn Haseleu of Bealeton and a sister, Shelia Ann Varnau of Cross Junction.

The Rev. J. Richard Winter will lead a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment will follow in Bright View Cemetery.

Martha Smith
SPCA supporter
Martha S. Smith, 85, of Midland, died Feb. 15, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Midland on Sept. 19, 1912, the daughter of the late Vass Edward Strickler and Ethelinda Ann Long Strickler. She was a clerk and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. She was a dedicated supporter of the Fauquier SPCA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Smith.

She is survived by a sister, Lucille Anton of Falls Church, and a brother, Edward L. Strickler of Warrenton.

A funeral service took place Feb. 18 at Moser Chapel. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.

W. Douglas Lowe
Plumbing contractor

William Douglas Lowe, 82, of Culpeper died Feb. 10, 1998, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Lowe was born in Drill on Dec. 13, 1915, the son of the late Andrew Russell Lowe and Lula Cordell Lowe. He was a plumbing contractor until his retirement. He was preceded in death by a son, William Dean Lowe.

He is survived by his wife, Louise P. Lowe of Culpeper; two sons, Kenneth D. Lowe of Warrenton and Charles D. Lowe of Arlington; a brother, Herbert Cordell of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, William Dean Lowe.

The Rev. John Staples and the Rev. Bobby Glascock led a funeral service Feb. 13 at Moser Chapel. Interment was in Valley View Cemetery.

William Maddox Jr.
Retired administrator

William Kenneth Maddox Jr., 67, of Manassas, died Feb. 10, 1998, in the Hospice of Northern Virginia in Arlington.

Mr. Maddox was the son of the late William K. Maddox Sr. and Grace Collins Maddox. He retired as an administrator from the National Electrical Benefit Fund, and then owned and operated a Carvel Ice Cream Shop for 10 years in Manassas.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Maddox of Manassas; his children: Janet Mafodda of Broad Run, Kathy Nystrom of Beltsville, Md., Ken Maddox of Warrenton, Bill Maddox of Minneapolis and Marguerite Kean of Manassas, and four grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Donnelly led a funeral service Feb. 13 at Culpeper United Methodist Church. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

Daisy Cox
Culpeper resident

Daisy Nichols Cox, 83, of Culpeper, died Feb. 11, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Cox was born in Rappahannock County on June 13, 1914, the daughter of the late Ernest Nichols and Alice Jenkins Nichols. She was the widow of Emmitt Cox.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas Kemper Hawkins and Charles William Hawkins, both of Culpeper; a daughter, Mary Frances Curtis of Culpeper; two brothers, Robert Nichols of Front Royal and Maury Nichols of Luray; five sisters: Jane Thomas of Rawley's Island, S.C., Ann Collins of Hampton, Bertha Kozyck of Forrest Hill, Md., Betty Rice of Roanoke and Helen Leake of Culpeper; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. John S. Farrar led a funeral service Feb. 15 at Clore-Geest Funeral Home. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

William Heflin
Heavy equipment operator

William Lloyd "Buck" Heflin, 66, of Bealeton died Feb. 15, 1998, at INOVA-Fairfax Hospital.

Mr. Heflin was born in Bristersburg on July 30, 1931, the son of the late William Welford Heflin and Lillie Mae Heflin. He was a former employee of Lane-Penncarva Co. in Bealeton. At the time of his death he was the owner-operator of his own heavy equipment business.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda H. Lyddane of Locust Dale; two sisters, Susie E. Charles of Baltimore and Annie M. Bennett of Manassas Park; a brother, George R. Heflin of Locust Grove; three stepbrothers: Julian C. Bly of Fredericksburg, Robert J. Heflin of Richmond and J. Roland Heflin of Goldvein; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois M. Heflin Embrey, and three brothers, Lewis E. Heflin, Paul F. Heflin and Wayne E. Heflin.

The Rev. Peyton Embrey and the Rev. Sandy Martin led a funeral service Feb. 18 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment was in the Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Joseph Haley
Markham orchardist

Joseph Haley Sr., 81, of Markham died Feb. 12, 1998, in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Haley was born June 1, 1916, in Markham, a son of the late William and Eliza Hackley Haley. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was an orchardist and worked many years for Stribling Orchard in Markham.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta F. Haley of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Joseph Haley Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Clowe of Maryland, and Edith Edwards of Front Royal; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Theodore Haley led a funeral service Feb. 18 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in St. Louis, Va. Interment was in Mount Morris Cemetery in Hume.

Lorraine Selvig
Grocery store employee

Lorraine Selvig, 52, of Warrenton died Feb. 16, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Selvig was born in Springfield on Jan. 21, 1946. She worked as a meat wrapper in a grocery store. She was a member of the Centreville Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Arthur Selvig of Warrenton; her mother, Estelle Virginia Taylor of Springfield; three sons: Kevin P. Imbs of Warrenton, Tony J. Imbs of Manassas, and Dino V. Imbs of Warrenton; three sisters: Joann Robey of Dale City, Frances Smith of Fredericksburg, and Molly Chumley of Springfield; and five grandchildren.

The Rev. Phil Collect will lead a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment will be in Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
