LINKOUS, Helen Saville

Helen Saville Linkous, 99, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, December 11, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Henrietta Saville. She was born in Montgomery County, Virginia in 1905 and grew up in the Sunnyside Community. She graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1925 and from Radford State Teachers College with a teacher's certificate in 1926. She taught school until her marriage to Oakley Wade Linkous, who preceded her in 1976. She lived in Montgomery County all of her adult life until moving to Cary, N.C. in 2002 to be in the care of her two daughters. She enjoyed homemaking and gardening. Mrs. Linkous is survived by daughters, Pauline Jennelle and husband, Ernest, of Raleigh, N.C., Etta Carter and husband, Donald, of Cary, N.C.; son, Theodore Linkous of Greenville, S.C. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Geneva Thornhill and Clara Mullins; and nephews, Harry, Donald and Roger Saville. Special nieces are Anna Lee Jones, Carolyn Linkous and Dolly Best. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg, Va. Her family will miss her warm smile. "God gave us memories so that we can have roses in the winter and mothers forever."

MOORE, Warren Eugene

Warren Eugene Moore, 81, of Dublin, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 in Carilion New River Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable S. Moore and a daughter, Judy Dyer. Surviving are two sons, Jackie Ray Moore of Snowville and Charles Edward Moore of Moneta; a daughter, Karen Nunn of Barren Springs; three sisters, Mozelle Albert of Parrott, Lorene Howell of South Hill, and Ada Rutoski of Albuquerque, N.M.; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Robert Crosier, a special friend, for his support and kindness. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Highland Memory Gardens Chapel, with Dr. Hal Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.

CAMDEN, Floyd Clyde

Floyd Clyde Camden, 70, of Lexington, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mr. Camden was born on June 18, 1934 in Rockbridge County and was the son of the late Thomas Henry Camden and Mary Moore Camden. He was a member of the Lexington Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1952-1955 and a member of the V.F.W. Post 2216 and American Legion Post 126. He also worked and retired from Reeves after 34 years and from Burlington after 14 years. Mr. Camden is survived by his beloved wife and friend, Katherine Arlene Camden of Lexington; one son, Floyd Camden, Jr. of Buena Vista; three daughters, Carol Dueck of Ontario, Canada, Anita Argenbright of Buena Vista, Glenda Hamilton of Buena Vista; one sister, Estelle Davis of Buena Vista; two brothers, Issac Camden of Lexington, George Camden of Glasgow; two half sisters, Bonnie Camden of Maryland and LuAnn Camden of Glasgow; two half brothers, Thomas Camden of Glasgow, Johnny Camden of Natural Bridge; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his very special friend, Muff the cat. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill cemetery with full military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.

COOPER, James Wythe

James Wythe Cooper of the 6700 Block of Whitewood St., Suffolk, Va., passed away in his home on Saturday, December 11,2 004. He was born in Max Meadows in Wythe County, Va. on February 10, 1923. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of VFW Post #9382 in Suffolk and Jubal Early Camp 1691 SCV, Hillsville. He retired as a conductor from the Belt Line Railroad after 35 years of service. He was the son of the late Jessie James Cooper and Mary Marie Jones Cooper, and was preceded in death by a son, James William Cooper, one brother, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josie Martin Cooper; three sons, Jerry Wayne Cooper of Fancy Gap, Jack Warren Cooper and wife, Sally, of Glouster, and John Ward Cooper and wife, Judy, of Dugspur; two daughters, Joan C. Pagan and husband, David, of Sanford, N.C., and Janice C. Stevens and husband, Frank, of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Sturtevant Funeral Home Bennetts Creek Chapel by the Rev. Nelson Fields and the Rev. Jackie Allen. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the Bennetts Creek Chapel of Sturtevant Funeral Home, Monday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 757-488-8348

Virginia Lawhorn Ash, 88, of Blue Ridge, Va., died Tuesday, May 16, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha Ash. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Ash, Sr. of Mechanicsville and Bobby L. Lawhorn (JoAnn), of Punta Gorda, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and a devoted and loving friend, Margaret Fluke. Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Glade Creek Lutheran Church, 3359 Webster Road, Blue Ridge, Va., where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Interment icon will follow in Glade Creek cemetery. BLACKARD, Helena Sue

Helena (Helen) Sue Blackard, 89, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at LewisGale Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 3, 1917 in Hobson, Montana, a daughter of the late Arthur and Rose Hash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Gene P. Blackard. Surviving are two brothers, Dean E. Hash, and Elmer S. Hash; one brother-in-law, Hugh Wills. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She retired after many years of service with the Western Union Telegraph Company in Roanoke, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Road, S.W. Roanoke, Va. 24018. Ralph Junior Blankenship, 82, of the Mount Pleasant Community of Roanoke County, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006. Ralph was retired from Fred Whitaker Company with over 40 years service and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Leafye Blankenship; one brother and four sisters. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Sallie Frances Bohon Blankenship; his son, Cecil Blankenship; his daughter, Barbara Blankenship; his brother, Frank Blankenship of Front Royal; his sister, Ada Pratt and husband, Bob of Salem; special friends, Krystal and Jennifer Brownell, Leanna Ferguson and Rakhim Brownell. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Saturday, May 20, 2006, 12 noon, with Bishop Paul Williamson officiating. Interment icon in Sherwood Memorial Park. BOLTON, Joe Anna Adamson

In loving memory of Joe Anna Bolton, devoted wife and mother. Joe Anna Adamson Bolton, 77, passed away Friday, May 12, 2006. Born in Roanoke, Va., March 19, 1929, she was the daughter of Cordelia Carlisle Adamson and Cleveland Watts Adamson of Roanoke. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Norman (Corky) Bolton; her daughter, Norma Lynne Bolton; her adopted daughter, Betty Nguyen Phillips and husband, Chris Phillips; her sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Raymond Hundley; and her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Nancy Adamson. Joe Anna had an extremely full and involved life?one devoted to giving to others, particularly in working with young people throughout her years. This life-long devotion to helping others began with her in-home kindergarten which she maintained for several years in Fincastle, and then continued as she taught for a while at the Fincastle High School. When her husband's job moved them to Northern Virginia, Joe Anna worked as an admissions counselor at George Mason University. Her dedication to the needs of youth led her to become involved with both the returning vets from Vietnam who were enrolling, as well as in the position of Foreign Students Advisor for the university and a sorority sponsor. She developed a great rapport with the Chancellor, the department heads, the professors and their staffs, all for the benefit of her students. Upon returning to Fincastle in 1980, Joe Anna immediately became involved with the Fincastle Presbyterian Church and was an active member in the Women of the Church until her death. She also spent many years as a member and treasurer for Historic Fincastle Inc., and she served as a member of the Big Spring Garden Club for over 50 years?an honor for which she received a lifetime service award just last year. No one in Fincastle who entered the Fincastle Drug Store or who dealt with the Bank of Fincastle during the years in which she worked at first one and then the other could miss her cheerful personality. With her winning ways when dealing with people and her perpetually sunny outlook, Joe Anna gained the love and respect of many people in this community over her lifetime. She will be missed by a multitude of people who knew and who loved her. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Godwin cemetery in Fincastle, Va. with the Rev. Neil Dunnavant and the Rev. David Dickerson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Fincastle Presbyterian Church's Women of the Church or to another worthy charity. Carolyn V. Fizer Croy, 63, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, passed away May 15, 2006. Carolyn is the seventh of eight children of the late James Ralph and Cora Mabry Fizer and was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Ralph Fizer, Jr. and Charles "Charlie" William Fizer. She was raised in Roanoke and attended Jefferson High School and was a member of Salem Pentecostal Holiness Church before moving to Florida. Carolyn was a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and aunt. And surviving are her husband of 45 years, Donnie Croy; son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Karen Croy, Fla.; grandson, Michael Croy, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Barrows, Ohio, Mary and Morrell Bayse, Salem, Nancy and James Daniel, Roanoke; brother, Robert Fizer, Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Shirley Fizer, Ohio; sister-in-law, Peggy Fizer; a sister-in-law and husband, Deborah and Floyd Higgins, Roanoke; brother-in-law and his wife, Jimmie and Billie Croy, North Carolina; another brother-in-law, Junior Croy, Smith Mountain Lake; several nieces, nephews, host of other relatives and her faithful loving K-9 companion, Missy. Carolyn also leaves behind many close friends in Florida and her friends here she grew up with in Washington Heights. GRAVES, Terry Lynn

Terry Lynn Graves, 50, of Roanoke, peacefully departed this world in the company of close family on May 18, 2006. Terry was an employee of Kroger Company for over 20 years. He also spent 12 years working alongside his parents at the Graves family business, Valley Marine Center. When not working, Terry spent much of his time in his favorite place, the great outdoors. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, and fishing every chance he got. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Toney Graves. Terry is survived by his wife and best friend, Gail Stevens Graves of Roanoke; daughters, Celia Graves McAllister and Teri Lyne Graves of Botetourt; grandsons, William and Lennon McAllister; father and stepmother, Eddie Joe Graves, Sr. and Roswitha Graves of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Eddie Joe Graves Jr.; sister in-law, Sandy Graves; and nephew, Danny Graves of Roanoke; life long "brother", Jeff Sain and wife, Sharon; and special K-9 companion, Gracie. Terry L. Lucas, 88, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 17, 2006. He was the son of the late Charles M. and Flora W. Lucas, and was also preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth E. and Richard G. Lucas; brothers, William, Howard, Lawrence, Douglas, and Warren Lucas; and a sister, Oneita Booker. Mr. Lucas served the Lord at New Hope Christian Church, and was retired co-owner of Lucas Brothers Garage and Luke's Wrecker Service. Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred B. Lucas; son and daughter-in-law, Howard L. and Sue Lucas, Vinton; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn L. and Carl V. Barker, Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Barbara T. Lucas, Roanoke; grandchildren, Terrie Philpott, Lisa Anderson, Melissa Lucas, Jennifer Chumley, Howard Lucas II, Kim Agner, Scott Barker, Stacy Boris, Ricky Lucas, and Jason Lucas; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary L. Williams, Salem, Cecelia L. Snyder, Daleville; brother, Burrell Lucas, Raleigh, N.C. Services will be at New Hope Christian Church, 12 noon Saturday, May 20, 2006. MURPHY, Wilma C.

Wilma C. Murphy, 90, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 4, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, J.M. "Buck" Murphy. Mrs. Murphy was a past President of the Home Demonstration Club of Roanoke County. She was a past President of the PTA at Conehurst and Southview Elementary Schools. Additionally, she served as the first President of the Northside High School PTA. In addition to her work with the PTA, she also played piano and taught Sunday School in the Primary Department at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was an award winning ceramics teacher, a person who loved people and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. At the time of her death, she was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons, William Morris Murphy and wife, Sharon of Houston, Texas, Thomas Michael Murphy and wife, Shirley Kay of Blacksburg, Robert Eugene Murphy and wife, Shirley Ann of Roanoke; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and special friends, Larry Tyler, Gwynn Lancaster, Virginia Frangowlakis, Bertha Sadler, Dorys Seebo, Neva Sumner and Art Barnhill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Global Partners in Peace and Development for the Andhra Pradesh Orphans, P.O. Box 117, Blue Ridge, Va. 24064-0117. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Rainbow Forest Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Grooms and the Rev. Jim Kistner. MYERS, Joanne Kay

Joanne Kay Myers, 61, of 2205 Plantation Road, Roanoke, and formerly of Glen Wilton, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at her residence in Roanoke. Born February 11, 1945 in Clifton Forge, she was a daughter of the late Wilson Clayburn and Hilda Claytor Myers. She was a 1967 graduate of Radford College, where she was very active in the French Club. She was also a French Teacher in the Roanoke City School System for a number of years. Survivors include a sister, Mary L. Barr of Bellingham, Wash.; a number of cousins, including Arlene Linkenhoker of Clifton Forge; and special friend, Calvin Prosser of Smith Mountain Lake, Moneta, Va. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the Glen Wilton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert McCrae officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions in Ms. Myers' name may be made to the Glen Wilton Presbyterian Church, P.O.
