Helen Eloise Euteneier

YAKIMA - Helen Eloise Euteneier died in her home on April 10, 2006, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Helen was born April 15, 1923 to L. E. and Ruth Ward Marshall in Springfield, Missouri. The family moved to Texas in 1926 while Helen was still a young child. The family came to Yakima to farm in 1930. Helen attended school at both Marks' and at Wiley City grade schools, and followed briefly at Franklin High.

She married Chris Euteneier on September 12, 1951. Helen packed apples for 47 years at Westbrook and Gilbert Orchards. Her hobbies were many types of arts and crafts, latch hooking wall hangings, and especially fabricating the delicate cross stitched Christmas Village that she added to yearly. Helen loved to go to the beach with her grandchildren and began the tradition when they were very young. She also enjoyed hiking and rock hounding near the river or in the desert with her family. Helen exercised her mind by solving crossword puzzles until very recently. Her family was her life.

Helen is survived by her son, Chris (Belinda) Euteneier, and her daughter, Ruth (Gary) Hansen, and her grandchildren, Cole Hansen, Sadie Hansen, and Kyle Bishop, all of Yakima. Helen is also survived by her brothers, Richard (Mary) Marshall, Salem, OR, and Clayton (Maxine) Marshall, Yakima, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Euteneier, in 1999. She was also preceded by her parents, L.E. and Ruth Marshall, brothers, James and Daniel, and sisters, Edith Hicks, Ethel Evely, and Myrtle Berman.

The family would especially like to recognize Bill and LaVina Mitchell who acted as guardian angels for Helen during the many years they shared the neighborhood. Special recognition, also, is to be shared with Shirley Taylor, of Yakima, Helen's niece, in her role of buddy and confidante.

A special thanks to Dr. Vicki Jones and the staff of NorthStar, and YVMH Hospice, Sherrie Alexander, Tracy McFeeley, and David Eichwald. Helen and Sharon Kendrick were friends for many years and Sharon became a caregiver allowing Helen to remain in her own home for which the family is grateful. We would also like to thank Linda Engquist for her compassionate care for Helen allowing her to remain also in her own home.

Graveside services will be held at West Hills Memorial Park, Douglas Road, Yakima, on Thursday, April 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. Flowers may be directed to Valley Hills Funeral Home & Crematory, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima. The family suggests memorials in Helen's name to YVMH Hospice to further the care and compassion.

Jack A. Lind

PORTLAND - "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

Jack A. Lind, our beloved father and husband, went to be with his Lord on April 6, 2006.

Dad was born in Clatskanie, OR on Oct. 29, 1925. When he was 17 he joined the Navy and served during WWII. After the war he moved to Portland, OR and attended Western Oregon University. He met and married his first wife and they were blessed with a son.

In 1959 he married Ethel Young and together they had three more children. The family moved to Yakima in 1968 where Dad worked for the U.S. Postal Service, eventually becoming the postmaster at Grandview. He also owned and operated the Grand Prix Drive-In. In 1992 his wife passed away. It was this time of sorrow that introduced Dad to true Joy as he experienced God's grace and forgiveness when he gave his life to Jesus.

Dad married Lillian Moore in Seaside, OR in 1995 and enjoyed the remaining years of his life there.

Our father was a member and past president of Toastmasters International, Yakima Chapter. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Dad enjoyed travel, reading and working crossword puzzles, but he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Taylor Faith. He was really looking forward to meeting his great grandsons Elijah Paul, who was born April 5th and Ethan Michael, due in three weeks.

Dad left behind his wife, Lillian; sister, Ruth DeSordie; sons, Douglas Lind and J. Jeffrey (Dianne) Lind; daughters, Susan (Richard) Duarte, and Sallie (Jay) Grauman; grandchildren, Stephanie and Alex Lind, Ryan and Lauren Duarte, Jaymie (Vanderwood), Jayson David, and Jennifer Grauman, and Whitney and Justin Lind; and three great-grandchildren. Also, five step-children, seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; brother, Charles; and grandson, Jayson Michael.

We will greatly miss our loving, tender-hearted father. His life was a demonstration of God's grace and compassion for his children. But we find comfort and joy in knowing that "weeping must last for a night, but joy comes in the morning."

"Where, O death,
is your victory?
Where, O death,
is your sting?"

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Online guest book at valleyhillsfh.com
