Edward Linker

YAKIMA - Edward Conrad Linker Sr., or as most people called him "Grandpa" or Ed, passed away suddenly on Feb. 20, 2009. He left us the way he would have wanted, surrounded by his family, whom he loved more than anything else in this world.

Ed was born on Jan. 26, 1921 in Moxee, WA, and as he liked to tell people, he was born in the middle of a hop field. His parents were Conrad "Tony" and Irene Linker. Ed had two siblings, a brother, Harold, and a sister Joyce. He lived in many places, including Harrah, Grandview, Wapato, and Seattle, and attended schools in Harrah and Wapato.

Ed and the love of his life Dona Jean Jones were married on Mar. 19, 1942. Together they struggled to have a family, but finally after many years, they had a healthy daughter named Katherine, and a son Edward Jr. Ed joined the CCC in 1938, and was employed with Boise Cascade for 44 years until his retirement in 1986.

Ed was a handyman of all sorts, and was very proud of the fact that he and Dora designed and built their own house, where they loved to host an annual New Year's Eve party for family and friends. He loved bowling, and was able to do so until the day he passed. He collected records, and 8 track tapes, and liked to go to second hand stores to find treasures. He was an avid race fan, and never missed a race at the Yakima Speedway. He enjoyed going to breakfast every morning and teasing the waitresses, who knew never to let his coffee cup get less than half full. During the last year, the true joy of his life was "Sunshine", his precious little Chiweenie. Everyone who knew Ed, will miss his witty sense of humor, his compassion, and his eternal love for his family.

Ed is survived by his daughter Katherine Sabinish, and his son Edward (Bonita) Linker Jr., his grandchildren, Debra (Jeff) Liebert, Kimberly (Jay) Fleck, Angenette (John) Stuewe, and Danielle Linker, his great-grandchildren Rochelle, TRA, Jarrett, Tara, and one on the way. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Lila Linker, and Myrna Davis, and brother-in-law Dennis (Jan) Jones, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Tony Linker and Irene LeMon, his wife Dona Jean, his brother Harold Linker, and sister Joyce Petersen, a baby son Everett, and a son-in-law Raymond Sabinish.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Services will be held Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home, with graveside services to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

You left us so suddenly, your thoughts so unknown.
You left us with memories, we are proud to own.

Judith Nugent

Judy Nugent, 64, passed away February 18, 2009 with her family by her side. She was strong, committed to making sure all her tasks were done, and that everyone knew they were loved, right to her last breath.

Judy was born in the Granger/Satus area to A.J. and Edith Oswalt. She was part of a big loving family; she was the third oldest of the nine Oswalt kids and was raised to work hard, to love your family, and to keep that family close to you at all times. She lived this creed her entire life: unselfishly giving and genuinely caring about each person that entered her life.

Judy met Mike Nugent in 1958, and they eloped in 1960 when Judy was 16 years old. Judy was quickly folded into Dad and Mom Nugent's family. Mom Nugent was thrilled to finally have a girl in the family, and Judy became the older sister to all the Nugent boys. She was loved by our Uncles and Aunties in Oklahoma, too.

Judy was committed to Mike, and it was her dream to be his life mate. They proudly raised three children together (Janay, Michael Darren, and Clarissa) and were blessed with 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild on the way. She was an exceptional "firefighter's wife" and embraced the close knit family structure of the Yakima Firefighters. Judy and Mike shared a million sunsets out in the backyard, together, as well as country drives.

Judy's life commitment was to be a "Mom" with as much love, family togetherness, teaching, caring, and guidance that she could squeeze into her children and grandchildren. She worked from early morning to late at night, cooking home-cooked meals, teaching us, reading on the bed, having grandkids read with her, playing games, working on projects with Mom Nugent, planning family pinochle parties or bonfires/weenie roasts.

Judy was an excellent cook and loved her Mom's fried bread and homemade chocolate pudding; she never could quite duplicate her Mom's pudding, but it was heavenly! Judy spent many hours with her sisters and brothers, laughing, telling stories, playing cards, having family campouts, annual Christmas shopping, and traditional Christmas Eve dinner. She LOVED playing pinochle, and Judy and Mike shared many nights with John and Edna Andreas playing cards into the wee hours.

Judy loved people and genuinely cared about others. She was never was too busy to sit down at the kitchen table, pour you a glass of her legendary ice tea, and find out what you've been up to. She was so interested in "you" and made you feel like the most important person in the world. No one went without a big hug, and you could count on her hand-created cards and phone calls. She was diligent in writing to her pen pals across the United States and Canada.

One of Judy's hardest tasks was watching her son, Michael Darren, go into US Army and serve our country. She faithfully wrote him letters and called him to let him know that she loved him and missed him.

The last 9 years Judy rolled silverware at Pioneer Kitchen in Toppenish. She was known as "Aunt Judy" to the patrons and cheerfully greeted new people and welcomed back familiar ones. She absolutely didn't know a stranger and made friends with thousands of customers.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Mike Nugent; son, Michael Darren (Trisha) Nugent; and daughters, Janay (Curt) Thorne and Clarissa (Jess) Wolfe; grandchildren Starlyn, Alea, and Garrett Thorne; Tanya (Rich) Startin and Ethan Nugent; and Spencer and Evan Wolfe; brothers Dean (Reinie) Oswalt and Rick (Rhonda) Oswalt; sisters Barbara (Dale) Miller, Gayle (James) Rescorla, Linda (Norm) Morrow, Nancy (Randy) Hull, Debby (John) Stanton, and Cindi (Rick) Dillman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. and Edith Oswalt, her in-laws Gene and Opal Nugent and her special loved ones, Millie, Aunt Gina, and Aunt Bessie.

Viewing will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb 24-25 from 9:00 a.m. ? 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb 28 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. A Celebration of Judy's Life will be held Saturday, February 28 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at the Toppenish Eagles.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Lower Valley Hospice c/o Valley Hills Funeral Home. We'd like to thank Mom's special critical care givers Eldon, GeorgiaAnn, and Honey for their care for our Mom this last week.

Mom,
Thank you for teaching us to teach others,
Thank you for guiding us to guide others,
Thank you for sharing with us as we share with others.
From the bottom of our heart and soul, we love you dearly. Mike, Janay, Michael Darren, Clarissa, and your grandkids.
