Arlene Henderson
COLFAX -- Arlene Henderson, 82, of Colfax died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at Area Nursing Home in Colfax.
Arlene was born November 3, 1919, in Colfax to Anton and Maggie (Bredeson) Erickson. She grew up on Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. On March 22, 1940, she married Frank Henderson. Arlene was employed at Presto in Eau Claire, the Colfax Creamery, Sana Dairy and as a dental assistant for Dr. David Frogner for many years. She was a member of Colfax Lutheran Church, the Senior Bowling League, the Senior Center and the Merry Mixers.
Survivors include her three children, Diane (Ken) Stofferahn of Pierre, S.D., David (Karen) Henderson of Green Bay and Mike (Karen) Henderson of Colfax; two sisters, Gerri (Dave) Bieniasz of Amery and Edna Hill of Colfax; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bev Larson; a brother, Merton Erickson; and two grandchildren, Craig Henderson and Michael Stofferahn.
Funeral services for Arlene will be Thursday, January 31, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Colfax Lutheran Church. Pastor Les Walck will officiate, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sampson Funeral Chapel in Colfax and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Norma Hoff
WHITEHALL -- Norma S. Hoff, 83, of Whitehall, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Norma was born on March 5, 1918, in Fly Creek Valley to Emil and Nettie (Weverstad) Hanevold. She married Francis D. Hoff of Sjuggerud Coulee on August 24, 1940, in Whitehall. Francis preceded Norma in death on March 21, 1997.
Norma and Francis farmed in Thompson Coulee for over fifty years. Norma was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was a faithful member of the WELCA, a member of its circle and for many years a chairman of the quilters. Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved caring for her grandchildren. She loved caring for the beauty of their home, especially gardening and her flower garden.
Norma helped many friends with household tasks, which brought her so much happiness.
Mrs. Hoff is survived by her daughter, Linda Matchey of Independence; four grandchildren, Tim (Jeanne) Peterson and their son, Wyatt of Rosemount, Minn., Sara Peterson of Shoreview, Minn., Todd (Nichole) Peterson and their daughter, Isabelle of Shoreview, Minn., and Tami (Troy) Thayer and their children, Tatum and Jessie of Osseo; a daughter-in-law, Faye Hoff of Spooner; a sister, Evelyn Olson of Blair; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Hanevold of Madison, Vera (Bob) Hoff-Weiler of Mesa, Ariz., and Edith Page of La Crosse; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a close friend of the family, Elizabeth Jones of Waunakee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by a son, Frederick; a brother, Walter; and a son-in-law, Ronald.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 29, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be designated to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Blessed is her memory. She will be missed.

Albert Jackson
Albert "Al" Adam Jackson, passed away January 22, 2002, in Eau Claire.
Al was born May 18, 1925, in Fond du Lac, Wis., the son of Bert and Bertha (Seifert) Jackson. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, served in WWII and received the Bronze Star of heroic service at Leyte.
Al married Mary Jane Fredrickson on June 25, 1949, and they had the pleasure of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June 1999. He worked for the Upjohn Company for 42 years and received the W.E. Upjohn award.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Steve (Sue) Jackson of Eau Claire and Terry (Judy) Jackson of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren, Casey and Cheryl Jackson of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jessica and Sarah Jackson of Madison, Wis.; and one great-grandchild, Olivia Jackson of Eden Prairie, Minn.
His parents, two sisters, Dorothy North and Jackie Koenigs, preceded him in death.
Al was a friend to many, but most importantly he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
The family requests that memorials be sent in Al's memory to the American Heart Association-Stroke Division, 800 W. Wisconsin Street, Mail Box 31, and Eau Claire, WI 54703.
Private family services were held Saturday, January 26, 2002 at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home.

Arthur Soderberg
THORP -- Arthur William "Pat" Soderberg, 86, of Thorp, Wis., passed away Saturday, January 26, 2002, at 7:40 a.m. at his home, with his family present.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp, with Rev. John Puerner officiating. Burial will follow inn St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 today, January 28, 2002 at Thorp Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brad Soderberg, Jeff Soderberg, Kurt Soderberg, Scott Soderberg, Anna Soderberg and Jim Collins.
Arthur William "Pat" Soderberg was born in Thorp, Wis., on October 6, 1915, the son of Arthur and Mary (Velcheck) Soderberg. Pat attended St. Bernard's Catholic School, Thorp Public School and graduated from Thorp High School in 1933. On July 2, 1938, Pat married Eileen Marie Hayes of Stratford, Wis. For 17 years, he worked at Thorp Dairy and Blue Moon Cheese. He then moved to the family dairy farm where he raised three children. With the kids gone, he went into the auction business with Thorp Finance (later ITT), and he spent the final part of his working career in real estate as owner and manager of Soderberg Realty.
Pat was deeply committed to his family and community, where he supported business, civic, sports, school and church organizations. He served terms as president of the Thorp Business Association, the Thorp Lions Club, the Cloverbelt Baseball League, the Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Thorp Alumni Association, which he co-founded. He has been a member of the Thorp Public School Board, the Thorp Catholic School Board, the Victory Memorial Hospital Board, the Peoples Exchange Bank Board, the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a lifelong member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. He was honored by Lions International as a Melvin Jones Fellow, a humanitarian award. He loved to reminisce with friends and alumni. Pat wrote a history of Thorp businesses for the Thorp Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen; his three children, Don (Kathy) of Stevens Point, Wis., Bill (Susan) of Germantown, Md., and Carol (John) Stewart of Plover, Wis. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Brad (Linda) of St. Louis, Mo., Jeff (Terri) of Mosinee, Wis., Lisa (Jim) Collins of Dubuque, Iowa, Kurt (Paula) of Milwaukee, Wis., Scott of Cedarburg, Wis., Beth of New Berlin, Wis., Megan of New Berlin, Wis., Anna of Portland, Ore., Jenka of Washington, D.C., and Keir of Cape Town, South Africa. Pat was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doris (Robert) Cleary of Beaverton, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene in 1932 and Gerald in 1997; and one sister, Marjorie in 1978.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Services and Hospice in Chippewa Falls, Wis., whose care and comfort made the death experience as human and family centered as possible.

Lawrence Weber
ELMWOOD -- Lawrence A. Weber, 90, of Elmwood died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.
Lawrence was born June 7, 1911, in the township of Eau Galle, Dunn County, the son of Michael and Johanna (Bauer) Weber. He married Mabel Weber on June 7, 1932, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Eau Galle. Mabel preceded him in death on March 26, 1983. Lawrence later married Lois Evenson Balk on July 15, 1988, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood.
Following graduation from the Hall School, Dunn County, he worked for the Dunn County Highway Dept. Lawrence also farmed in Dunn County, bought and sold horses at the St. Paul Horse Market and locally for 20 years. Horses were his great love. He owned horses all of his adult life. In the late 1940's, Lawrence started a Case Implement Dealership as well as a Hudson Car Dealership in Elmwood. He established the Elmwood Ford Dealership in 1949. For over 50 years he was active in his Weber Real Estate Business.
Lawrence began public service in 1936 as a member of the Missouri Valley School Board in Buttermilk Coulee, near Elmwood. He was a trustee of the Elmwood Village Board for 40 years and served 29 of those years as mayor. In 1951, he was elected to the Pierce County Board of Supervisors and served for 41 years, six years as board chairman. For 35 years he was on the First State Bank Board of Directors in Elmwood. From 1973 to 1997, he was president of the board of directors of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. Lawrence was a member of the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission for about 30 years.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Lois; one son, Jerry (Joyce) of Elmwood; one daughter, Patricia (Wayne) Nohelty of Elmwood; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Lorraine) of Elmwood and George (Jean) of Eau Claire; and one sister, Arvilla Tietz of Eau Claire.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mabel; an infant son, Lawrence; four brothers, Galen, Phillip, Francis and Raymond; and four sisters, Lucy Weisenbeck; Lorraine Bates; Marie Schafer and Delores Hartung.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood, with Rev. Varkey V. Joseph and Rev. Jude Weisenbeck officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery-Farm Hill.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Lawrence Dewitz
HALES CORNERS -- Lawrence O. "Larry" Dewitz, 77, found peace Nov. 4, 2000.
Larry was an usher for 35 years at Hales Corners Lutheran Church. One of Larry's passions in life was antique cars.
Loving husband of Ruth (Wollschlger). Proud dad of Kathy (Mike) LePine and Greg (Kathy). Dearest grandpa of James (Candy), Samantha. Step-father of Allen (Linda), Dan (Heidi) and Joanne (Bill) Keenan. Step-grandfather of Jeffrey (Angie), David, Kelly, Brett, Sean, Jennifer and Brendan. He is further survived by three sisters, Margaret Oliver, Esther (Carl) Strassburg and Helen (Vick) Lane; one brother, Herman (June); other relatives and many friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene (nee Gunem); and two brothers, Norman and Gus.
Visitation will be held at Hales Corners Lutheran Church (Janesville Campus), today, Nov. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. Worship services to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, Fall Creek.

Steven Schilling
FALL CREEK -- Steven F. Schilling, 41, 331 W. Washington, Fall Creek, died peacefully Monday, November 6, 2000, at his residence.
Steve was born May 16, 1959, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, the son of Gerald and Thelma (Ruff) Schilling. He was baptized June 7, 1959, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altoona. He was confirmed April 15, 1973, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fall Creek. Steve was a 1977 graduate of Fall Creek High School. He lived in Tampa, Florida for 15 years and moved back to Fall Creek in 1997. While living in Tampa, he was Assistant Manager of a Circle K Convenience Store.
Steve loved sports. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He was very knowledgeable of all professional baseball, basketball and football teams. Steve enjoyed people. He will be remembered for his wittiness and sense of humor in spite of his illness.
Survivors include, his parents, Gerald (Thelma) Schilling; his sister, Sandra Dickinsen; his niece, Elizabeth Dickinsen; and his nephew, Matthew Dickinsen, all of Fall Creek. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Lilah Schilling and Erwin and Wilma Ruff.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fall Creek, with Pastor Larry Borgelt officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery, Fall Creek.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stokes & Mundt Funeral Home in Fall Creek and an hour before services at the church.
