Spencer J. Mohring
IPSWICH, S.D./SPARTA, Wis. - Spencer J. Mohring, 87, of Ipswich, S.D., and formerly of Sparta, died Saturday, January 24, 1998 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Ipswich.
He was born on January 6, 1911, the son of Fred and Lena Mohring. He was a longtime resident of Sparta before moving to South Dakota. He owned the Sparta Construction Co. and Sparta Ready Mix Concrete Co. for many years. He was a past president of the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald of Sparta.
He is survived by his former wife, Edith Jepson; two daughters, Jeanne (Roy) Dahlin of Coon Valley, Wis., and Linda (Bruce) Gjerde of Newport Richey, Fla.; one son, Gary Mohring of Copperas Cove, Texas; five granddaughters; five grandsons; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 29 at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta. Rev. Jack Mithelman will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the service.

Stephina M. Morovits
EASTMAN/PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Stephina M. Morovits, 94, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Eastman, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998 in Prairie Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Eastman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien, where there will be 7 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. wake scripture. Friends may also call at the funeral home Friday from 9:30 a.m. until departure for the church.

Gabrielle Lea "Gabi" Trim
GALESVILLE, Wis. - Gabrielle Lea "Gabi" Trim, 16, of Galesville, died Monday, January 26, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born December 29, 1981, in La Crosse, to Edward and Lori (Corcoran) Trim. Gabi was a sophomore at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School and was involved in basketball, softball and curling. Her love for children was evident in the many children she was called upon to babysit.
Survivors are her parents; three brothers, Nate, Cody and Scotty, all at home; paternal grandparents George and Eileen Trim of Galesville; maternal grandparents, Carol Corcoran and Adolph Johnson of Galesville; paternal great-grandma Arra Brenengen of Trempealeau, Wis.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Jr.; maternal grandfather Michael Corcoran; maternal great-grandparents; and paternal great-grandfather.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville, with the Revs. M.C. Parkhurst and Arnold Flater officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville, Wis. Friends may call at the church today from 5 to 8 p.m., with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services.
The Smith Mortuary, Galesville, assisted the family.

Marcella Ann Rommes
CALEDONIA, Minn. - Marcella Ann Rommes, age 88, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at the Lutheran Home, Caledonia, following a brief illness.
She was born December 4, 1909 in Caledonia, to John P. and Elizabeth Roerkohl Schiltz. On September 9, 1931, she married Nicholas Rommes at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Caledonia. He preceded her in death January 9, 1979.
Marcella was a member of St. Elizabeth's Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Mary's Parish and its Council of Catholic Women, and Caledonia Senior Citizens. She enjoyed people and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Dale, Donald (Marge) and Paul (Nel), all of Caledonia; two daughters, Mary Ann (Gerald) Mitchell of Alburnett, Iowa, and Jeanne (Raymond) Kelly of Boca Raton, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo (Antoinette) Schiltz of La Crosse; and four sisters, Sister M. Illuminata, OSF, of Rochester, Minn., Irma Klug and Lorraine Thimmesch of Caledonia, and Mary (John) Carlson of Stoddard.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; a granddaughter, Lora Mitchell; and three brothers, Wilfred, Myrel and John Schiltz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caledonia. Rev. Donald Schmitz will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, where a Catholic Daughter rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

Lavern "Brownie" Olmstead
WOODMAN, Wis. - Lavern "Brownie" Olmstead, 83, of Woodman, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998 in his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday from the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home, Boscobel. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Beulah J. Nelson
WESTBY, Wis. - Beulah J. Nelson, age 86, of Westby, died early Tuesday morning, January 27, 1998 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born on June 25, 1911 in Westby to John and Johanna Bakken. She graduated from Westby High School and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Nestingen in Westby prior to her marriage to Arnold ``Rudy'' Nelson on October 26, 1941. She was a life member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Westby, where she had taught third grade Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of a church circle and the WELCA. Beulah had worked as a nursing assistant at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.
She is survived by her daughter, Jann (Curtis Pierce) Nelson-Pierce; and two grandsons, Andrew and Lucas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arnold ``Rudy'' Nelson on February 11, 1992; and four sisters, Kalma, Till, Olga and Phoebe.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 1998 at 1 p.m. from Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate, with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call after noon at the church on Friday. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is assisting the family.

Donald Woodruff
WAUWATOSA, Wis. - A memorial service is planned Saturday, January 31, 1998, for Donald Woodruff, former Director of Tourism for the state of Wisconsin who died on Monday, January 26, 1998, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Born March 19, 1930, in La Crosse, Wis., Don moved to the Milwaukee area after he served five years in the U.S. Navy. Recognized as one of Wisconsin's foremost outdoor sports authorities, Don was a frequent guest on radio and television talk shows. As a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, hundreds of his fishing and hunting articles and expert advice columns appeared in regional, national and foreign outdoor sports magazines. Don was one of the original editors of Fishing Facts magazine, and founder and publisher of Wisconsin Outdoorsman. He was also the originator and first host of the popular television series, Outdoor Wisconsin. As national advertising manager of OMC Evinrude, Don was instrumental in bringing co-op TV advertising to Evinrude dealers nationwide, resulting in the positioning of Evinrude outboards as the number one fishing motor in the U.S. Don, while serving as executive director of the Wisconsin Division of Tourism, introduced the now famous, ``Escape to Wisconsin'' slogan and initiated a marketing program for tourism that revolutionized Wisconsin's tourism industry. A veteran of submarine warfare during World War II and the Korean conflict, Don completed twelve successful submarine patrols and received an Honorable Discharge as a senior petty officer. He was one of a handful of U.S. submarine men qualified in both German and American submarines, having served on the captured German submarine U-3008, as well as American submarines, USS Sennet, USS Medrigal and the USS Odax.
Don is survived by his wife, Theresa nee Eden of Menomonee Falls; five daughters and a son, Pam (Jim) Wareing of Waukesha, Toni (Andy) Eckmayer of Madison, Lorie (Steve Costello) Woodruff of Grafton, Kurt (Ann) of Menomonee Falls, Mary (Bob) Radtke of New Richmond and Wendy (John) Wiza of Stone Bank as well as thirteen grandchildren. He also is survived by three brothers and a sister, Maxine Kasper, Richard (Helen) of California, William (Margie) of Washington, Robert (Betty) of La Crosse.
The family extends their gratitude to the ICU nurses, Jennifer, Laura and Mary as well as his doctors, for the loving care and kindness shown to Don and his family during his stay at Froedtert Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at the Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center, 12875 West Capital Drive, Brookfield, Wis., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and the service at 11:30 a.m. Not in state.

Lou Jean (Colleran) Williams
ROCHESTER, Minn. - Lou Jean (Colleran) Williams, age 71, of Rochester, Minn. died January 17, 1998, after a long lung disease in Lynnhurst Nursing Home of St. Paul, Minn. Preceded in death by parents, Jack E. Colleran and Mary (Scanlon) Colleran and brother, Jack T. Colleran. Survived by son, Randall Williams; daughter Cynthia Rodriguez; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 1998, at St. Patrick's Church, Brownsville, Minn. followed by burial in Cork Hollow.

Phyllis Mae Crum
VIROQUA/FERRYVILLE - Phyllis Mae Crum, age 78, of 505 Chicago Avenue in Viroqua died on Wednesday, January 21, 1998, at the Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home in La Crosse where she had been a resident since December 31, 1997. She was born on February 6, 1919, in Jefferson Township, Vernon County to Harrison and Nancy (Sorenson) Oliver. On September 1, 1936, she married Clare Crum and they farmed in the Retreat area, rural DeSoto for many years before moving to Ferryville in 1960. She cooked at the Swing Inn in Ferryville and in 1976 she and Clare purchased a restaurant in Trempealeau. They retired to Ferryville in 1978 and on October 25, 1987, Clare died. She then moved to Viroqua.
She is survived by four children, Shirley Diehl of Prairie du Chien, Deanna (Fred) Olson of Ferryville, William (Catherine) Crum of Stoddard, James (Peggy) Crum of Clintonville; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon (Ellen) Oliver of DeSoto; three sisters, Ellen ``Peg'' Harthun of Beaver Dam, Orla (Robert) Whitney of Viroqua, Gladys Helke of Holmen; two sisters-in-law, Mae Oliver of Victory and Alice Oliver of La Crosse; other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, John Diehl; two sisters, Verna Hass, Eva Ross Springborn; six brothers, Wallace ``Dump,'' LeRoy ``Pete,'' Orville ``Jiggs,'' Fred, Leslie, Kenneth Oliver; and one great-grandchild, Haley Boardman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 1998, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor Alice Richards officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. where there will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. Friends may also call after 8 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Alan E. "Eddie" Brague
WINONA, Minn. - Alan E. "Eddie" Brague, age 26, of 413 E. Sixth St., was killed Wednesday, January 21, 1998, when the car he was driving was struck by a train. He was born March 10, 1971, in St. Paul, Minn. His parents are Allan and Diane (Dahlquist) Brague of rural Winona.
He attended Winona Area Schools and lived most of his life in the Winona area. He loved the outdoors and was passionate about hunting and fishing. Among his most prized possessions were his trophy catches and last season's ``150'' Class eleven point, 200 pound buck.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Kimberly (Jeff) Jaworski of South St. Paul, Minn. and Deborah (Paul) Brazil of Fremont, Wis.; three nieces, Maranda, Melissa and Morgan Brazil; two nephews, Benjamin and Nicholas Jaworski; two grandmothers, Leone Olson of La Crosse, Wis. and Ardy Brague of Cambridge, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ernest G. Dahlquist and Robert S. Brague and grandmother, Marian E. Brague. Tragically, the accident also took the life of Emily King, his girlfriend of many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, January 24, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church. Burial in Pickwick Cemetery. Reverend John M. Sauer officiating. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and Saturday from 12 noon until time of the mass at the church. A Christian Wake Service will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Ryan Papenfuss, Brandon Sebo, Butch Bauer, Dave Bahr, Tom Tooke and Greg Tooke.
Eddie touched so many lives in the short time with us, he will be sadly missed and forever loved.
