Emma Johnson
VIROQUA, Wis. - Emma Johnson, age 96, of Viroqua, died Friday, January 16, 1998, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. The location and visitation times will be announced later by the Larson Funeral Home.

Olga C. Parr
WESTBY, Wis. - Olga C. Parr, age 89, of Westby, died early Friday morning, January 16, 1998, at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Dell United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Westby. A complete obituary to follow.

Cecil Lombard
LA FARGE, Wis. - Cecil Lombard, age 74, formerly of La Farge, died Friday morning, January 16, 1998, in Florida. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Thursday and will be announced by the Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby.

Erma Langrehr
SPARTA, Wis. - Erma Langrehr, 95, of Sparta, died early Friday morning, January 16, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.
She was born in the Town of Burns, La Crosse County, Wis. on February 15, 1902, the daughter of August and Emma (Cook) Young. She was united in marriage to Edward F. Langrehr on March 7, 1928. They lived in the Town of Burns for three years and then farmed at Sparta Arms for 12 years.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sparta and their Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Striped Homemakers Club in Burns.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hannah (Henry) Youncke and Sarah (Arthur) Hugo; four brothers, Marshall and his twin brother, Martin who died in infancy, Alfred and Ralph.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Young of West Salem and Elsie Bernett of Tomah; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sparta at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Del Begalka officiating. Burial will be in the Burns Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m.

Amelia G. Olson
NELSON, Wis. - Amelia G. Olson, age 92, of Nelson, died Wednesday, January 14, 1998, at the Hartford Care Center in Hartford, Wis. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lyster Lutheran Church, rural Nelson, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home in Alma, Wis., where there will be a 4 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Ada Mae Reichelt
Ada M. Reichelt, 99, formerly of 2126 Prospect Street, died at the Lakeview Health Care Center on Thursday, January 15, 1998. She was born July 12, 1898, in La Crosse to August and Bertha (Trader) Fregin. She married Harold Reichelt on January 22, 1924, in La Crosse, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1975. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church. The Reverend Ted Dewald will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Trust. Dickinson Family Funeral Homes are assisting the family with the arrangements.

George (Tjeerd Durk) Oedsma
GALESVILLE, Wis. - George (Tjeerd Durk) Oedsma, 102, of Galesville, died Friday, January 16, 1998, in Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem, Wis.
He was born January 2, 1896, in the Netherlands to Durk and Berendje (Schapp) Oedsma. In 1922 he came to America to work on his uncle's farm in Michigan. While visiting Wisconsin he met Marie De Groot whom he married March 26, 1925, in Winona, Minn. The couple farmed in various Galesville area locations. She died January 12, 1978. George enjoyed children and was known to many as the Galesville Santa Claus. His carving hobby reflected his love for America. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling and cards, especially euchre.
George was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesville, Order of the Eastern Star, the Decorah Masonic Lodge F & A. M. #177 of Galesville and the Zor Shrine.
Survivors are two sons, Durk (Lois) and Stanley (Sharon), both of Galesville; three daughters, Beatrice (Walter) Balmer of West Salem, Hazel Grace (Floyd) Richardson of Holmen, Wis. and Kathleen (Gil) Machin of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Yahnke (Berend) Roorda of the Netherlands. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John; four sisters; and a brother.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 1998, in First Presbyterian Church, Galesville with the Rev. Dr. R. Steven Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery, Holmen. Friends may call at Smith Mortuary, Galesville on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 Eastern Star Service, followed by a Masonic Service and Monday at the church from 12:30 p.m. until services.

Arthur Henry Klawitter
Arthur H. Klawitter, 85, died at the Gundersen/Lutheran Medical Center on Thursday, January 15, 1998. He was born September 4, 1912, to Carl and Louise (Meyer) Klawitter. He was a graduate of Central High School. He married Verna (Gollnick) on September 6, 1941. Mr. Klawitter was a veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Trane Company for forty-one years. Art loved to garden and fish.
He is survived by his wife Verna; two sons, Dave (Jane) Klawitter of Onalaska and Ron (Cheryl) Klawitter of Auburndale, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Kline, Emily, Matt and Alysia Klawitter; a brother, Edwin (Jenora) Klawitter of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lillian.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. The Reverend Edward Ungemach will officiate and entombment will be in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse, on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the services.
Memorials may be given to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or the Hospice Unit of Gundersen/Lutheran Medical Center.

Freda Elizabeth Mitby
Freda E. Mitby, 89, formerly of 644 North 22nd Street, died at the Bethany-Riverside Health Care Facility. She was born February 4, 1908, in St. Paul Park, Minnesota to Oliver and Freda (Winberg) La Bathe. She married Ralph Mitby and he preceded her in death. Prior to retirement, she owned and operated Freda's Beauty Mode.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the English Lutheran Church. The Reverend Robert Olson will officiate and burial will be in the Westby Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes are assisting the family with the arrangements.

Carl J. Hallanger
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis./MC GREGOR, Iowa - Carl J. Hallanger, age 90, of McGregor, Iowa and formerly of Prairie du Chien, Wis. died Friday, January 16, 1998, at the Great River Care Center in Mc Gregor. Funeral services will be held graveside on Monday, January 19, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. at the North Beaver Creek Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Ettrick, Wis. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.

La Vanche (Bartlett) Murphy
LAKELAND, Fla. - La Vanche (Bartlett) Murphy died in Lakeland, Florida on Jan. 15, 1998. She was 87 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip C. Murphy, they were married for 63 years; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson. She is survived by three children, Dean (Mary) Murphy of Racine, Wis., Betty (Lowell) Snyder of Emlenton, Penn. and Charles (Brigitte) Murphy of Galesville, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The time of a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.

Glen E. Lockington
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Glen E. Lockington, 82, of West Salem, died Friday, January 16, 1998, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem. Funeral services will be announced by the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem.

Irene Almyra Gaustad
SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Irene Almyra Gaustad, age 77, of Sunny Valley, Oregon and formerly of Spring Grove, Minn., died Wednesday, January 14, 1998, at Three Rivers Hospital-Washington Campus, Grants Pass, Oregon. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 24, 1998, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Blackhammer, Minn., rural Spring Grove. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Friday, January 23, 1998 from 4-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, Minn. and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.

Walter R. Goede
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Walter R. Goede, 88, of La Crescent, died on Friday, January 16, 1998 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. He was born on September 4, 1909, in rural La Crescent, Minn. to Theodore and Clara (Otto) Goede. He married Irma T. Veglahn on May 12, 1932, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural La Crescent. Walter and Irma lived in Pine Creek for five years and moved to La Crescent in 1937. In 1942, they moved to Houston, Minn. They returned to La Crescent in 1984. Walter and Irma were charter members of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent and Walter served as President of the church council. He also served on the Houston Public Schools, Board of Education.
Walter is survived by three sons, Eugene (Joann) Goede of Mound, Minn., Melvin (Louise) Goede of Cleveland, Minn. and David (Sharon) Goede of Spring Valley, Minn.; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, Victor and Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 1998, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent. The Rev. Paul A. Ibish will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural La Crescent. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed by First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Michael A. Simon
CALEDONIA, Minn. - Michael A. Simon, age 85, of Caledonia, Minn. died Thursday, January, 15, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Michael was born on June 22, 1912, in Freeburg, Minn. to Michael and Mary (Miller) Simon. He attended country schools and then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then worked in road construction in different places including Alaska and Greenland. On April 8, 1961, he married Margaret Hingsberger-Fisch in Brownsville, Minn. The couple moved to Caledonia in 1968, and Michael retired in 1978. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caledonia and former member of the Eagles.
Michael is survived by his wife, Margaret; four step-sons, John (Bob) Fisch and his wife, Helen of Caledonia, Francis (Butch) Fisch and his wife, Barbara of Athelstane, Wis., Giles Fisch and his wife Maurine of Ripon, Wis. and William Fisch of Boynton Beach, Florida; three step-daughters, Valeria (Mrs. John) Robiego of West Allis, Wis., Terryl Becker of Roy, Utah and Mary Ranzenberger of Caledonia; step-daughter-in-law, Elaine Fisch of Caledonia; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Anna Schutz of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; sister-in-law, Lucille Simon of Brownsville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Leon Fisch and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caledonia with the Reverend Donald Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Nicholas Cemetery in Freeburg, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 1998, with a 5 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at the McCormick Funeral Home in Caledonia and one hour prior to services at the church.
