Doris M. Vieth
SPARTA, Wis. - Doris M. Vieth, 76, of Sparta, died Friday evening, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
She was born in the Town of Adrian, Monroe County, Wis. on January 7, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Emma Schaller. She was united in marriage to Wesley William Vieth on November 22, 1941. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage. They lived in Farringtons Camp in Coles Valley and later farmed for seven years and lived in W. Beaver Creek for a total of 15 years. Doris' life was busy with her family of which she always had time for them.
During this time, Doris worded at Ft. McCoy in the kitchens, the Dinner Bell Cafe, Mary's Cafe and DecoMet and then later at the Monroe County Telephone Co. She retired in 1982.
On August 22, 1981, Doris was married to James Vieth and have been together for 16 years. Together they have been active with family and mutual friends. Doris enjoyed sewing, card playing and was a member of the PCCW and the Senior Citizens. She liked country western music. She lived her entire life in Monroe County.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta and a participating member of the Coles Valley Homemakers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wesley; one daughter, Darlene Maack; one son, Joseph; one grandchild, Nicole Rae Vieth; one step-grandchild, Charity Vieth; and one brother, Earle Schaller.
She is survived by her husband, James; four sons, Gilbert (Mary) Vieth, Richard (Sylvia) Vieth, Curtis and Brian (Vicki) Vieth of Sparta; five daughters, Carolyn Berry of Killeen, Tex., Laureen (Bill) Calloway of Buffalo, Wyo., Joanne (Kevin) Abbott of Sparta, La Vonne (Tom) Livangood of Sparta, Marcia (Bobby) Crocker of Sparta; one son-in-law, Ralph Maack of Sparta; one brother, Claude (Marie) Schaller of Sparta; one sister-in-law, Margaret Schaller, Norwalk; two step-daughters, Kathy (Jim) Markevitch, Sheboygan, Wis., Debbie (Mike) Crocker, Jackson, Wyo.; two step-sons, Ronnie (Kaye) Vieth, Marthasville, Missouri and Tom (Kris) Vieth, Sparta. She was surrounded by the love of 41 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta with Rev. Mark Walljasper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta on Monday from 5-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8-10:45 a.m.

Olga G. Schwake
LA CRESCENT, Minn. - Olga G. Schwake, 84, of La Crescent, died on Saturday, January 17, 1998, at the La Crescent Healthcare Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent.

Emma Strang Johnson
VIROQUA, Wis. - Emma Strang Johnson, age 96, of Viroqua, died Friday, January 16, 1998, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born September 2, 1901, in Iowa County to Ole and Anna (Venden) Engen. She was united in marriage to Merval Strang in 1921 in Iowa County. He died in 1930 and in 1950 she married Gerhard Johnson who also preceded her in death in 1984. Emma was employed by the Viroqua Telephone Co. and the Bethel Home. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Royal Neighbors and Sons of Norway.
She is survived by one son, Merval (Kathleen) Strang; one daughter, Anna Mae (Stewart) Groves, all of Viroqua; four grandsons, Cory (Lynn) Groves of Onalaska, Tim (Meg) Groves of Madison, Toby (Cathy) Groves of Atlanta, Ga. and Trent Strang of Viroqua; one granddaughter, Lynette (Richard) Getter of Viroqua; eight great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Scott Groves; five sisters; and seven brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 1988, at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Pastors Roger Hjelle and Stephanie Steiner will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday after 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Bethel Home. Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family with arrangements.

Glen E. Lockington
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Glen E. Lockington, 82, of West Salem, died Friday, January 16, 1998, at Mulder Health Care Facility, West Salem.
He was born November 17, 1915, in Vernon County to Ross and Grace (Woodhouse) Lockington. On April 2, 1946, he married Eleanor E. Finch in Decorah, Iowa and she preceded him in death on June 6, 1996. Glen was a member and past commander of the Gunderson-Gilbertson American Legion Post 507, Mindoro.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Jepson of Birchwood, Wis., Peggy (David) Teal and Debra (William) Rommel, both of West Salem and Glenda Waters of La Crosse; one son, Richard (Diane) of Holmen; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Lockington of Stoddard, Wis. and Victoria Lockington of Mindoro. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marion and Elwin.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, at 11 a.m. from the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. Rev. J. David Bersagel will officiate. Burial will be in Black Oak Cemetery, Town of Farmington, with military rites by the Mindoro American Legion, Post 507. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Rebecca `Becky' Lynn Hayes
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Rebecca ``Becky'' Lynn Hayes, 26, of North St. Paul, Minn. died at home Thursday, January 15, after a six year battle with Hodgkins disease. Survivors include her mother, Jeanne Hayes; father, Tim Hayes; step-mother, Brenda Hayes; her brother, Tony Hayes; grandmothers, Millie Vogel and Rosemary Beane; and a very special friend Bradley Baker. Becky was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pat and Ardelle Hayes and her Aunt Maureen ``Jane'' Nelson.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Presentation Church, Maplewood, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Sanberg Mortuary, 2593 East Seventh Ave., North St. Paul.
Gone too soon, but forever in our hearts.

Cecil `Chuck' Lombard
LA FARGE, Wis. - Cecil ``Chuck'' Lombard, age 74, of Golden Gate, Fla. and formerly of La Farge, Wis. died Thursday, January 15, 1998, in Florida. He was born on July 15, 1923, the son of Emmett and Margaret (Stinson) Lombard. He had been a resident of Golden Gate since 1970 when he moved from Greenwood, Wis. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the European Theater of WWII and consequently became a member of the VFW. Prior to his move to Golden Gate, he had been an insurance agent for 13 years, as well as working for the Tri-State Cattle Breeders Co-op during the many years he lived in Greenwood with his family. On May 14, 1946, he married Emogene Mary Tryggestad.
He is survived by his daughter, Jana Kay Lombard Schneider of Rice Lake, Wis.; four sons, Charles Eugene Lombard of Queen Valley, Ariz., Richard Craig Lombard of Whitewater, Wis., Randall Ray Lombard of Altoona, Wis. and John Stephen Lombard of Payson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dorian (Bettie), Richard (Thora), Calvin (Yvonne) and Francis (Irene); two sisters, Ruth (Willard) Greene and Dorothy (Donald) Chambers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Merritt and three sisters, Esther, Gladys and Mildred.
Chuck will be remembered by both friends and family for his quick wit and independent (some thought stubborn) nature. He was known and respected for his strong work ethic as well as his humble and quiet spirit. Most importantly, however, Chuck (Dad) will be remembered for the absolute and unquestionable love that he had for his family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 1998, at 11 a.m. from the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby, Wis. Pastor George Shick will officiate. Burial with military rites by Syverson-Funk American Legion Post #155 will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby.

Norma E. Sommerfield
TOMAH, Wis. - Norma E. Sommerfield, age 88, of Tomah, Wis. died Friday, January 16, 1998, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, Wis. She was born June 14, 1909, in the Township of Tomah to Rudolph and Myrtle (Ludeking) Gerke. Norma retired February 16, 1928, after working for 30 years in the Finance Department at Fort McCoy. She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah.
She is survived by one son, Arthur D. (Mavis) Sommerfield of Bangor; two daughters, Shirley (Arlan) Bowen of Sopchoppy, Fla. and Lois (William) Amick Sr. of Prosperity S.C.; one brother, Harold (June) Gerke of Tomah; one sister, Lila (Orval) Stufflebeam of Payson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Raymond, Eldon and Gerald; and one grandchild, Barbie Bowen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 1998, 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor Richard Waldschmidt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the Ninnemann-Steele Funeral Home in Tomah. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church.

Delmer G. Chesebro
JANESVILLE, Wis. - Delmer G. Chesebro, 67, of 1816 W. Avalon Road, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at his home. He was born Sept. 16, 1930, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Don W. and Ruth I. (Dikeman) Chesebro. Delmer graduated from Logan High School, La Crosse, Wis., in 1949. He married Roberta A. Potter, Sept. 14, 1955, at St. James Catholic Church, La Crosse. Delmer was employed by JATCO since 1959, retiring in 1984. He served in the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, V.F.W., American Legion in La Crosse and the Teamsters Local #579.
Delmer is survived by Roberta Chesebro of Janesville; four sons, William (Marie) Chesebro, Kevin (Jody) Chesebro of Anchorage, Alaska, Michael (Brenda) Chesebro and Don (Carrie) Chesebro, all of Janesville; three daughters, Anna (Robert) Danielson, Diane Garnett and Michelle Chesebro, all of Janesville; grandchildren, Nicole, Brittney, Shawn, Steven, Tiffany, Eric, Nicholas, Jaymie, Kayce and Michael; a brother, Donald (Virginia) Chesebro of La Crosse; and two sisters, Ruth Ann (Mathew) Potter of Edgerton and Mary (James) Winder of La Crosse; and loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ray Kertz officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville, with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. Special thanks to HospiceCare, Inc. and their caring staff.

Ralph `Joe' Haney
GALESVILLE, Wis. - Ralph ``Joe'' Haney, 49, of Galesville, Wis., died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Arrangements are pending with Smith Mortuary in Galesville, Wis.

Edna Beatrice Kruk
TOMAH, Wis./Williston, Fla. - Edna Beatrice Kruk, 77, of Tomah and Williston, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Close to Home, Assisted Living Facility at Tomah, Wis., after a long illness. In accordance with Edna's wishes, a private memorial service is planned. Family requests that memorials be given to Tomah Hospice Touch, c/o Tomah Memorial Hospital, 321 Butts Ave., Tomah, Wis., 54660, in her memory. Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Myrtle Viola Garness
SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Myrtle Viola Garness, 87, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at the Lutheran Home in Caledonia, Minn. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church of Blackhammer, rural Spring Grove, Minn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and at the church on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m.

Evelyn L. Bratberg
HOLMEN, Wis. - Evelyn L. Bratberg, 81, formerly of Holmen, died at the Onalaska Nursing Home Monday, Aug. 10, 1998. She was born May 6, 1917, at Holmen. She married Arthur M. Bratberg on April 17, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Vern) Dahl of Preston, Minn., and Elizabeth Daffinson of Onalaska; by a grandson, Michael (Cathy) Daffinson of Panama City, Fla.; and two great-grandsons. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Holmen Lutheran Church. The Reverend Charles Evavold will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 525 McHugh Road, Holmen, assisted the family with the arrangements.
