Margaret Herrington
Margaret Herrington, 89, of Rice Lake died Jan. 6 at Lakeside South in Chippewa Falls.
Mrs. Herrington was born Sept. 6, 1908 in Dunn County to Frank and Emma (Koepnik) Giese. She married Oscar Sahein in 1926. He died in 1930, and she married Charles Herrington in 1934. She lived in New York until moving to Rice Lake in 1955.
Mrs. Herrington is survived by a daughter, Janice Welch of Rice Lake; two sons, Arvid of Fort Ann, N.Y., and James of Beatrice, Neb; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles in 1981.

Thomas Hochmayr
Thomas J. Hochmayr, 48, of Rice Lake died Jan. 13 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.
Mr. Hochmayr was born Jan. 29, 1949 to Karl and Cecilia (Tembreull) Hochmayr. He married Susan Perkowski on July 19, 1969 in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Hochmayr had owned and operated Hochmayrs' Photography in Cameron.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; two daughters, Dawn Nyht of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Linda Hochmayr of Zimmerman, Minn.; his mother, Cecilia of Chetek; and a brother, Robert of Aurora, Ill.

Edith Huset
Edith M. Huset, 94, of Barron died Dec. 26 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Prairie Farm.
Mrs. Huset was born Nov. 23, 1903 in the Town of Dovre to Delbert and Etta (Thorne) Rich. She grew up in the Chetek area and on April 21, 1926 married Melvin Huset at Dallas. They operated farms in the Dallas area, the Town of Arland and the Town of Maple Grove. In 1966 they retired and moved into Barron. Mrs. Huset loved flowers, playing cards, quilting and family get-togethers.
She is survived by one son, Robert of Barron; two daughters, Delores Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Eleanor Ranum of Ironton, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Alvin Rich of Rockford, Ill.; and two sisters, Lillian Nelson of Spooner and Mildred Nelson of Minong.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, in 1985.

Nelldora Irish
Nelldora E. Irish, 70, of Cameron died Jan. 16 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

William Lathrop
William John Lathrop, 78, of Rice Lake died Jan. 15 in Seattle, Wash. Funeral services are Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. George's Church, 5306 13th Ave. South, Seattle.
Mr. Lathrop was born Nov. 19, 1919 in Rice Lake. He grew up here, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and earned the Bronze Star for his service with the Flying Tigers in the China/Burma/India theatre of WW II. He married Pearl Hopp and moved to Seattle. Mr. Lathrop operated a service station at Mercer Island, Wash., and later an automotive repair shop,Lathrop and Sons, in West Seattle.
His greatest passion was aviation, and he gave aerial tours to family and friends in his Piper Cherokee.
Mr. Lathrop is survived by his wife, Pearl; three sons, Jon, Patrick, and Arthur; a daughter, Bethany; two granddaughters; and a brother, Edward of Mercer Island.

Doris J. Johnson
Doris J. Johnson, 69, of Barron died Dec. 22 at Barron Medical Center in Barron.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 8, 1928 in Barron to Herman and Ella (Hanson) Fankhauser. She married Wallace Johnson on Sept. 23, 1945 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena. They farmed for 10 years in the Barron area and later moved into the City of Barron. Mrs. Johnson worked many years at Edy's Diner, the Barron Supper Club and for Swenson's Catering Service.
She is survived by four sons, Dean of Medford, Lee of Chetek, and Mark and Kevin of Barron; two daughters, Linda Miles of Chico, Calif., and Deb Dietrich of Barron; three brothers, Glen Fankhauser of Rice Lake, Barry Fankhauser of New Zealand, and Lanny Fankhauser of Forest Lake, Minn.; one sister, Arvella Hill of Wayzata, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Wallace, died July 30, 1997.

Alphonse Ivanauskas
Alphonse A. Ivanauskas, 82, of Rice Lake died Dec. 25 at his home.
Mr. Ivanauskas was born June 9, 1915 to Anthony and Elizabeth Ivanauskas in Chicago, Ill. After graduating from Kelly High School in Chicago, he enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served two tours of duty. He married Rose Kodesh on Dec. 31, 1947 in Bethesda, Md., and the couple moved to Haugen in 1949. He attended technical school in Rice Lake and worked in Rice Lake for Fink Lumber Co. and First National Bank (Firstar Bank) from 1951-1977 and for The Rice Lake Credit Union until his retirement.
A veteran of WW II, Mr. Ivanauskas was a member of the Rice Lake American Legion. He loved all sports and was an avid bowler and golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; three sons, Joseph of Rainier, Wash., John of Reno, Nev., and Francis of Waterford, N.Y.; three daughters, Mary Stumpp of Anaheim, Calif., and Betsy and Carol, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Julia Giasson of Oklahoma City, Okla.

James Ivey
James M. Ivey, 89, of Rice Lake died here Dec. 28 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Ivey was born April 11, 1908 in Black River Falls. He graduated from Roberts High School and married Charlotte Larson in 1927. She died in 1951, and in 1952 he married Frances Stouffer at Shell Lake. They lived in Rice Lake, where Mr. Ivey had worked as a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, James of Brookfield; and two grandchildren.

Jarvis family
A former Rice Lake woman, Rebecca A. Jarvis, 38, her husband, William L. Jarvis Jr., 38, and their daughter Katie Marie Jarvis, 14, of Esko, Minn. died Dec. 29.
Mr. Jarvis was born in Duluth, Minn., and attended school in Esko near Lake Nebagamon. He graduated from Proctor Senior High School and from WITC in Superior. He married Rebecca Voelker in Rice Lake on Aug. 28, 1982. He had worked at Ulland Bros. Construction, Diamond Match Co., and Lake Superior Paper Co. He was a sergeant with Company C, 434 Main Support Battalion of the Minnesota Army National Guard and was a member of the Esko volunteer fire department for 7 years. He coached hockey, soccer, baseball and softball and was an avid outdoorsman.
Mrs. Jarvis was born in Rice Lake and attended Rice Lake High School, UW-River Falls and WITC in Superior. She was employed at the Twig Bakery and Munger School
Katie Jarvis was born Dec. 10, 1983, in Duluth and was attending eighth grade at Esko Junior High School. She enjoyed volleyball, soccer, softball and performed in the band and choir.
Jarvis family members are survived by William's parents, William and Virginia Jarvis of Saginaw, Minn.; his sister Louise Chicras of Superior; Rebecca's parents, Clarence and Lois Voelker of Rice Lake; her sister Cheryl Longhenry of Rice Lake; and a brother, Jon Voelker of Rice Lake. William and Rebecca have two surviving sons, Kent and Kevin.
Memorials may be directed to the Kent and Kevin Jarvis Benefit Fund, c/o Northwest Bank, located at 1204 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, Minn.

DeWayne Johnson
DeWayne Virgil Johnson, 73, of Ridgeland died Jan. 7 at Barron Medical Center.
Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 17, 1924 in the Town of Prairie Farm to Alfred and Lena (Eggen) Johnson. He was raised in the Prairie Farm area, attended Young School there and then farmed with his father until entering the Army in 1945. He served in Killeen, Texas and on Sept. 15, 1945 married Rosella Peterson there.
The couple returned to the Prairie Farm area, where they farmed for 32 years and he worked for Jerome Foods of Barron for 20 years. They owned and operated the Dutchmen's Bar in Ridgeland from 1977-1989. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Prairie Farm American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, crafts, working with wood and steel, and bread baking.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Rosella; a son, Bradley of Ridgeland; a daughter, Judy Lehman of Prairie Farm; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine Miller of Prairie Farm.

Curtis Kirkham
Curtis C. Kirkham, 83, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and formerly of Rice Lake, died Jan. 5 at Mease Hospital in Dunedin, Fla. Mr. Kirkham was born in Minneapolis, Minn.
He moved with his family to Rice Lake in 1948 to run the X-ray department at Lakeside Methodist Hospital. and was the hospital administrator from 1951 until his retirement in1975. During his tenure, Lakeside Methodist was recognized as the Outstanding Small Hospital in Wisconsin.
In Rice Lake, Mr. Kirkham had been president of the Northwest Area of the Wisconsin Hospitals Assn. and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Loyal Arch Masons and Knights Templar of Minneapolis; Scottish Rite in Eau Claire; and Zor Temple Shrine of Madison. He was a past president of Highland Lakes Hi-Twelve.
Mr. Kirkham is survived by his wife, Gertrude; two sons, Bruce of Madison and Wayne of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Roy of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.
