Albert J. `Rocky' Nawrocke
Albert J. Nawrocke, 85, of La Crosse, died Nov. 26, 1998, in St. Joseph's Nursing Home, La Crosse. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., June 21, 1913, to Adolf and Anna (Dzieniszewski) Nawrocke. He married Kathryn M. Dorsey Sept. 21, 1935, in Galena, Ill. Albert was the caretaker of Woodlawn Cemetery in La Crosse and also worked at Chopie Mfg. Albert was proud that he was able to be employed until the age of 80.
He is survived by one son, Jerry (Gloria) of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Ann (Daniel) Strittmater of New Berlin, Wis. and Mary (Mike) Bissen of La Crosse, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother, Felix (June) Nawrocke of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn on Feb. 12, 1986, and one brother, Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in The Marian Chapel of St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main St., La Crosse, Wis. Rev. Anthony Wolf will officiate with burial to be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends and family may call at Blaschke Funeral Home, 401 West Ave. S., on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until departing for church.

Mary Jo Wavra
Mary Jo Wavra, 46, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Bethany Riverside, after a short illness. Mary Jo is survived by her parents, Joseph Sr. and Bonny Wavra of La Crosse; one brother, Joseph Jr. (Janice) of Onalaska, Wis.; two sisters, Bonnie (Richard) Holm of North Pole, Alaska, Nancy (Steve) Smith of Homer, Alaska. She is further survived by eight nieces and nephews and many friends and associates.
Mary Jo enjoyed her career as a Realtor with her father Joseph Sr. She will be missed by her family and friends. Friends may call at the Blaschke Funeral Home, 401 West Ave. S., on Monday evening from 7-8 p.m., with a wake service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mary Jo will be entombed in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Gundersen Lutheran Foundation or Cancer research.

Cheryl L. Wheeler
VIOLA, Wis. - Cheryl L. Wheeler, 53, of Viola, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at her residence. She was born Jan. 30, 1945, in Richland Center to Burl and Doris (Norris) Wheeler. She was a graduate of Kickapoo High School and lived in Chicago before returning to Viola in the early 1990's. She has been employed at Nature's Wood in Viola.
She is survived by her mother, Doris Wheeler of Viola; two brothers, David (Shirley) Wheeler of Platteville and Douglas (Annette) Wheeler of Lancaster; a nephew, Christopher Wheeler of Lancaster and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Burl ``Bud'' Wheeler in 1981.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. in the Viola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Doris Richardson Clark will officiate with burial in the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call at the Henthorn Memorial Center in Viola on Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 1:30 p.m. Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family.

Hans Haugrud
LA FARGE, Wis. - Hans Haugrud, 97, of LaFarge, died Friday, November 27, 1998, in Viroqua. He was born on May 6, 1901, in Oslo, Norway to Thorvold and Anna (Gulbrandson) Haugrud. He came with his family to America in 1904. He served in the Ski Patrol of the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Colorado. Following the war, he returned to Wisconsin where he remained on the family farm in Haugrud Hollow, near LaFarge, until his death.
He is survived by one sister, Ragnhild ``Peggy'' Church of Beloit; one sister-in-law, Laura Haugrud of Westby; one brother-in-law, Theron Green of Tomah; a cousin, Henry Haugurd of Westby; nieces and nephews: LaVon (Mary) Haugrud and Dale (Elaine) Haugrud, both of Viroqua, Sharon (Jim) McKegneys of New Lisbon, Paul (Kathy) Church of Columbus, Ohio, Nancy (Jim) Mowers of Beloit and Roger Church of Beloit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Haugrud and Martha Green; and two brothers, Thorlief Haugrud and Claus Haugrud.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Steven Meyer will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday after 12:00 noon at the church. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ross `Sam' Ames
DE SOTO, Wis. - Ross ``Sam'' Ames, 94, of De Soto, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 25, 1998, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. He was born Nov. 22, 1904, to Frank and Florence (Tower) Ames. He enlisted in the Army and proudly served in Europe and North Africa during WWII. He was united in marriage to Florence Syverson on Jan. 13, 1945. He worked for Allis Chalmers in La Crosse until his retirement in 1964. Ross had a passion for the outdoors. He hunted, fished and trapped most of the years of his life. He had been a resident of Thornton Manor Nursing Home for the past eight years. He was a member of the De Soto VFW Post #8123.
He is survived by his wife, Florence of De Soto; one son, Orin (Jan) Ames of De Soto; three daughters, Yvonne (Gary) Lysne of Mount Sterling, Carmen (George) Lee of Lansing, Iowa and Marlene (John) Nelson of Genoa; two sisters, Lois (Carl) Noel of Prairie du Chien and Florence (Harold) Traister of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Leanard Ames of Louisiana; five grandchildren, Bryan Lysne, Kevin (Kim) Lysne, Andrea (Dan) Manning, Aaron Lee and Craig Lysne; three great-grandchildren, August, Autumn and Winter Manning. His parents, four brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the New Hope United Methodist Church at Redmound. Pastor Alice Richards will officiate with burial in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. The members of De Soto VFW Post #8123 will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in De Soto on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 10 a.m.

George A. Siemianowski
SPARTA, Wis. - George A. Siemianowski, 72, of Sparta, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Waukegan, Ill. to Anthony and Mary (Chudziak) Siemianowski. On July 13, 1945, he married Vivian A. Organ in Tomah. George farmed with Evans Farms for over 20 years in the Bangor area until his retirement. He was a WWII veteran, having served with the army and was a member of the Sparta American Legion Post 100.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; ten children, George (Linda), Wayne, Barbara (Carey) Nuttleman, Sandra (Jerome) Zellner, and Terry, all of Bangor, Mary (Brian) Nuttleman of Rice Lake, Wis., Linda of Bangor, Wanda (Dale) VanMinsel of Sparta, Richard of Bangor and Tracy (Kenneth) Clements of Bangor; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffery; and an infant twin sister.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. from First Presbyterian Church, Bangor. Rev. Louis Stoker will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery with military honors by the Sparta American Legion Post 100. Friends may call at the Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem, on Saturday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Donald A. Hanson
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Donald A. Hanson, 60, of Milwaukee, Wis., and formerly of La Crosse, died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, in La Crosse.
He was born in Sparta, Wis. on March 18, 1938, to Oswald L. and Arleen M. (Fleischman) Hanson.
Don is survived by one daughter, Linda (Robert) Pellerino of Montello, Wis.; two grandchildren, Robbie (Danielle) Pellerino and Tricia Pellerino; one great-grandson, Vito Pellerino; three sisters, Suzanne (Carl) Condiff of New Berlin, Wis., Ann Camp of Beatrice, Neb. and Elizabeth Hanson of Elkart, Ind.; two brothers, Kenneth L. Hanson of La Crosse and Michael A. (Debra L.) Hanson of Hubertus, Wis.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 22, 1985, and his mother on Sept. 22, 1998.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at 7 p.m. and at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral home of La Crosse. Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. His body will be cremated following the services with burial to take place at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 p.m. until the time of services.

Christine Bouda
Christine Bouda, 86, of La Crosse and formerly of the Hillsboro area, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 15, 1912, to Frank and Anna (Blaha) Bouda, in the town of Forest, Vernon County. She graduated from the Hillsboro High School in 1930, and later the Vernon County Normal School. She has lived in La Crosse many years, where she worked for the St. Francis Hospital, and after retiring was also named an outstanding volunteer at St. Francis Hospital.
She is survived by three sisters, Jennie Stekel, Frances Bouda and Agnes McDonald, all of Hillsboro. She was a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 17, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Mount Tabor, with Father James Ennis officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Mount Tabor. Friends may call at the church today from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.
