GAYS MILLS, Wis. - Grace K. Smith, 80, of Gays Mills, died Saturday, November 28, 1998 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dommersnaes-Bertram Family Funeral Home in Gays Mills with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday after 11:00 a.m. at the Dommersnaes-Bertram Family Funeral Home in Gays Mills.

Marilyn Joan McGee
ARCADIA, Wis. - Marilyn J. McGee, 69, of Arcadia, Wis., died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
She was born Dec. 31, 1928, in La Crosse, Wis., to John and Lillian (Grosskopf) Schoen. On April 23, 1949, Marilyn married Lyle McGee in La Crosse. They farmed near Modena, Wis., until they moved to Gilmanton, Wis., in 1967. In 1994, they moved to Arcadia, Wis.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Lyle McGee, Lakeview Health Care Center, West Salem, Wis.; one daughter, Suzanne (James) Wiskow, Arcadia, Wis.; one granddaughter, Julie Wiskow, Arcadia, Wis.; seven brothers, Hilary (Faye) Schoen, La Crosse, Wis., Francis (Catherine) Schoen, La Crosse, Wis., Richard (Jeanette) Schoen, La Crosse, Wis., Gerald (Diane) Schoen, Mount Prospect, Ill., Russell (Jean) Schoen, Wheaton, Ill., Walter (Sharon) Schoen, La Crosse, Wis., Gregory (Bonnie) Schoen, Arcadia, Wis.; four sisters, Dorothy Wick, La Crosse, Wis., Catherine (Odin) McCarty, La Crosse, Wis., Barbara (Alan) Barum, Onalaska, Wis., Elizabeth (Edward) McFarland, Kansas City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Colleen (Glen) Michaels, Alma, Wis.; and over 50 nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother and sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, with Rev. Raymond Pedretti officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo City Public Cemetery, Buffalo City, Wis.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. and from 8-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wozney Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Wozney Funeral Home, Arcadia, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Kendon G. Huppert
Kendon G. Huppert, 29, died of AIDS on Thanksgiving Day at his Riverplace home. His family was by his side.
Kendon was born on Jan. 23, 1969, in Moscow, ID, to George Huppert and Lorraine Lester. He attended UW-L from 1989-1993, majoring in psychology/sociology. As an AIDS educator, he spoke to many groups across the Coulee region and was a leader of the La Crosse HIV-support group. He was also a regular contributor to the La Crosse Tribune's ``Your Views'' column.
Ken is survived by Jack Wallace, his partner of 6-1/2 years; his father, George Huppert, and stepmother, Betty Wheeler, of La Crosse; his mother, Lorraine Lester, of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, Steve Huppert, of New York, NY; and one sister, Susanna Lester, of Albuquerque.
The public is invited to attend combined funeral/memorial services on Saturday, Dec. 5th, at 1 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at noon. Friends may also visit from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4th.
Kendon asked to be remembered with flowers, and with donations to a memorial fund of the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, 1707 Main St. #420, La Crosse, WI 54601.

Leslie Lynn Wilkins
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Leslie Lynn Wilkins, 29, formerly from De Soto, Wis., entered into eternal life on Nov. 10, 1998, in Newport Beach, Calif. after a five-year long battle with brain cancer.
Leslie was born March 3, 1969, in Prairie du Chien, Wis. to Dwight and Margaret (Pintz). After high school graduation, Leslie worked in Chicago, Ill., before moving to California where she met her best friend, Babek Mobesseri.
Leslie is survived by her father, Dwight (Dawn) Wilkins of rural Viroqua; her mother Margaret (Lester) Beitelspacher of Watertown, S.D.; her brother, Scott of Port Angeles, Wash.; grandparents, Ken and Delores Wilkins of Retreat, Wis.; four stepsisters; five aunts and five uncles; several cousins; and her dearest friend, Babek Mobesseri of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Leslie was proceeded in death by her paternal grandmother, Grace Wilkins; and her maternal grandparents, Frank and Margaret Pintz; an aunt, Marylou Murphy; and an uncle in infancy, Dean Wilkins.
A private memorial service was held on Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Robert V. Almos
Robert V. Almos, 84, died at the Hillview Health Care Center on Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998. He was born Sept. 20, 1914, in La Crosse, to Ingvald and Ida (Magin) Almos.
He was a member of La Crosse Moose Lodge #1920.
He is survived by three daughters, Janis (Robert) Eick of Seymour, Wis., Harriet (Gerald) Eick of Green Bay, Susan (Gerald) Patz of Coleman, Wis.; a son, Jerry (Judie) Almos of Cascade, Mont.; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Boe of Onalaska; a sister-in-law, Betty Almos of La Crosse.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild and three brothers.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery. Fran Browning, F.S.P.A., pastoral care director of the Dickinson Family Funeral Homes will officiate.
Memorials may be given to the Hillview Health Care Center.

Esther Cowden
VIROQUA, Wis. - Esther Cowden, 80, of R.3 Viroqua, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Viroqua Church of Christ. Burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 10 a.m.

Helen Kerska
COON VALLEY, Wis. - Helen Kerska, 81, of Coon Valley, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse. She was born in rural Hillsboro on Feb. 18, 1917, to Jerry and Mary (Langer) Pesik. She married Emil Kerska in Hillsboro on May 18, 1937. The couple farmed in Bohemian Valley until 1972 when they retired and moved to the village of Coon Valley.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Kerska of West Allis; one sister, Mary Pesik of West Salem; two sisters-in-law, Anna Kerska of Coon Valley and Albina Sedevie of La Crosse and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil on Aug. 25, 1984; one brother, Emil Pesik; two brothers-in-law, Edward Kerska and Joseph Sedevie; and a sister-in-law, Mary Rediske.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at 11 a.m. at First Portland Evangelical Lutheran Church, on County Hwy. X, rural Cashton. Rev. Dennis Kempf will officiate with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Chapel in Coon Valley Monday evening, Nov. 30, 1998, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Immediately following the burial, friends and family are invited to a lunch fellowship at the Coon Valley Village Hall.

William E. Schmidt
STODDARD, Wis. - William E. Schmidt, 57, of Stoddard, Wis., died on Friday, Nov. 27, 1998. He was born in La Crosse on June 17, 1941, to Erwin and Laurayne (Gavin) Schmidt. Bill was a 1959 graduate of Aquinas High School. He married Susan Swancutt on Sept. 5, 1970, in the Basilica of St. Mary's in Minneapolis, Minn. Bill was a 32 year veteran of the La Crosse Police. He joined the force on May 25, 1966, and was promoted to detective in 1973. He was promoted to sergeant in 1975, and became captain in 1988. He was appointed interim chief of police in 1992, and then assistant chief of police in 1994. Bill also taught police science courses at WWTC.
He is survived by his wife, Susie; two sisters, Sandra (Thomas) Besl of Melrose, Wis. and Sharon (John) Honeck of La Crosse; three brothers, Michael of La Crosse, Charles (Sandra) of La Crosse and Laurence (Janet) of St. Louis, Mo.; his nieces and nephews, Kim, Kelly, Kari, Kristi, Tom, Matt, Amy, Derek, Jonathan, Steven, Lisa, John, Beth, Debbie, Tony, Derek, Kam-Lin, Mark, Diana and Laura. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman with Rev. Anthony J. Wolf officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Joseph Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 12 noon and then at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Mary P. Dickinson
SPARTA, Wis. - Mary P. Dickinson, 77, of Sparta, died Friday evening, Nov. 27, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; two sons, James (Caroline) Wright, Amarillo, Tex.; Russell (Bobbi) Wright, Cleveland, Ohio; seven step-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Sandra Fernandez, Chicago, Ill.; Patti (Allan) Gudmundson, Sparta; one stepson, Gary (Barb) Dickinson, Cashton, Wis.; one sister, Peggy Boscia, St. Augustine, Fla.; one brother, William (Ethel) Pierce, Highpoint, N.C.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Paul Woods and Rev. Richard A. Krocka officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Sparta.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the service.

Charles J. ``Chut'' Satek
Charles J. ``Chut'' Satek, 80, of La Crosse, died on Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in his home. He was born on Feb. 6, 1918, in La Crosse, to Charles and Catherine (Heinkle) Satek. He married Phyllis E. Wuensch on Jan. 14, 1945, in Norfolk, Va. She died on Jan. 20, 1990. Chut was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the United States L.S.T. Association. He had worked for many years at Allis Chalmers of La Crosse and later worked for Hitchcock Industries of Minneapolis, Minn. He retired in 1983. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Chut is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Larry) Trammell of West Salem, Wis.; his son, Larry (Pam) Satek of St. Charles, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jason Satek, Laura (Soren) Lundsgard and Mark (Katie) Hartfield and a sister, Charlotte (Harold) Sipley of Onalaska, Wis.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
