LaVern G. Hoberg, 82
LaVern G. Hoberg, 82, of River Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998 at The Lutheran Home.
She was born June 12, 1915, at Greeley, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Peterson) Danger.
She married Dennis W. Hoberg at her parent's home near Grasston, Minn., on Aug. 19, 1941. They were married for over 56 years.
She worked for many years on Main Street at Hagberg's Department Store.
She was a faithful member of Ezekiel Lutheran Church and Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Danger; and four brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of River Falls; her son, Ron and Deb of Boise, Idaho; her daughter, Sharon and Warren Wilson of Prescott; her grandchildren: Stephanie and Ken Hunkins of Elk Grove, Calif., Jessica Hoberg of Gresham, Ore., and Aaron Hoberg of Reno, Nev.; a brother: William and Chloe Danger of Cambridge, Minn.; many cousins and friends.
Funeral was Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Montgomery officiating.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Cashman Mortuary provided arrangements.

Frederick A. Junkman, 71
Frederick (Fred, Fritz) A. Junkman, 71, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 16, 1997.
He was raised in River Falls and graduated from River Falls High School in 1945. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara; his father, Ray; and his brother, Wayne.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dee; his daughters: Michele and Tom Schuster, Cindy and Arne Skaalure; Pat and Roger Johnston, and Kathy and Richard Braga; his grandchildren: Lee, Anne, Lara and Reed Schuster, and Caitlin and Amy Skaalure; his brothers: Howard and Helen, Bill and Shirley, Paul and Keiko; his sister: Lois Smith; his sister-in-law, Florence Junkman; many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was Thursday, Feb. 19, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park.
Memorials are preferred.

Loretta G. Merchant, 84
Loretta Gleason Merchant, 84, of Black River Falls and formerly Arcadia died on Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee.
She was born on July 12, 1913, in the town of Glencoe in Buffalo County, the daughter of Christian and Lena Doelle Gleason.
She taught elementary school in the Trempealeau County area and the developmentally disabled at the Southern Colony and Training School.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia and its St. Anne's Rosary Society. She was a member of A.A.R.P., was a strong Democrat and a member of the Humane Society.
She was also a member of the Wisconsin Educational Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Lena; and a sister, Matilda.
She is survived by two daughters: Joan and Ed Sveen of River Falls, and Carol Bolster of Sparta; four grandchildren: Larry and Jason Bolster of Sparta, and Mark and Laura Sveen of River Falls; a great-grandson, Jason Stark of Sparta; and a special friend, Neilan Hulett of Black River Falls.
Funeral was Monday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcardia, with the Rev. Raymond Pedretti officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Larry Bolster, Jason Bolster, Mark Sveen, Jennifer Sveen, Laura Sveen and Jason Stark.

David M. Weeks, 67
David M. "Pete" Weeks, 67, of Spring Valley died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been for the past week.
He was born Dec. 29, 1930, the son of Clinton and Juanita (Jackson) Weeks at Eau Claire. He grew up in the Spring Valley area and attended school in Spring Valley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
On Feb. 26, 1966, he married Darlene Pecha in Minneapolis. They lived in Eau Claire for about 12 years before moving to Ellsworth. He operated a paint store in Ellsworth for about a 1 1/2 before moving to Spring Valley in 1988.
He worked in construction for a number of years and also worked at U.F.E. in River Falls. He most recently worked at Kwik Trip in Wilson and at Mustard Seed Herbs and Everlastings in Spring Valley.
Preceding him in death were his father, Clinton Weeks; his step-father, Paul Ramsey; his son, David Weeks, Jr.; and his sister, Joyce Weeks.
Survivors include: his wife, Darlene, of Spring Valley; three sons: Alan Weeks of Spring Valley, Michael Weeks of Janesville, and Peter Weeks of Eau Claire; three daughters: Mary and Todd, Brenda and Doug Garrett of Chippewa Falls, and Sheryl Weeks of Minneapolis; four step-daughters, Trudy and Dean Rucks of Janesville, Wanda Smith of Red Wing, Minn., Marsha and Glen Ries of Wallworth, and Cindy and Kit Warner of Ladysmith; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Juanita Ramsey of Spring Valley; one brother, Bill and Betty Weeks of Mullin, Texas; two sisters: Pat and Rumaldo Jamie of Richland, Mo., and Mary Huber of New Richmond; two half-sisters: Virgilia and Doyle Hawthorne of Mt. Calm, Texas, and Coralee and Bob Partridge of Amarilla, Texas; one half-brother, John Weeks, of Washington; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Keehr Funeral Home in Spring Valley, with Pete's brother, the Rev. Bill Weeks, officiating. Cremation took place in Minneapolis.

FRED DIX
Fred Dix, aged 67, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Henry Wetterau, Monday noon at 12:15 following an illness with dropsy of four weeks. Mr. Dix was born in Chicago, Ill., April 21, 1872. He moved with his parents to the town of Cleveland in 1885, where he lived most of his younger days. In August, 1901, he was married to Caroline Wiesman, also of the town of Cleveland. They made their home in Fenwood until 1920, when they moved to Wausau, where the family is still living. He is survived by his widow, four daughters: Mrs. Art Brandeburg, Esther, Mrs. Glen Blyton of Wausau and Mrs. Melvin Grabel of Wauwautosa; two sons, Fred Jr. and Alvin Dix, both of Wausau; also two sisters, Miss Minnie Dix of Milwaukee and Mrs. Henry Wetterau of the town of Cleveland; two brothers, John Dix of Milwaukee and Jacob Dix of Stratford; and seven grandchildren. - THE STRATFORD JOURNAL, THURSDAY MAY 11, 1939

Dear grandfather of Shannon, Amy (Jay), Stacey, Lisa, Kerry (fiance Tom), Jason and Scott. Son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Ash. Brother of Lorraine (Fred) Gussel. Brother-in-law of Gene (Jane) Kawczynski. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Mon., May 7 at 10 AM at St. Roman's Church, 1710 W. Bolivar Ave. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Visitation at the Funeral Home Sun., 4-8 PM with a Prayer Vigil at 5 PM. Entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery. Jerry was a member of Charles Fidler VFW Post 9469. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family appreciated. Special thanks to the nurses on 3 North at St. Francis Hospital, especially Chris and Leslie for their loving care.
