Yvonne Goldsmith
Yvonne Rose Goldsmith, 84, of Cumberland died March 16 at Cumberland Extended Care Unit.
Mrs. Goldsmith was born May 12, 1912 in Rice Lake to William and Cordelia (Couture) Burton. She married H. J. "Goldy" Goldsmith on Oct. 17, 1937 in Cumberland. Mrs. Goldsmith attended Rice Lake Normal School and taught in country schools for a year before moving to Cumberland. She then worked at Nelson Hardware for over 25 years. Mrs. Goldsmith was a member of the Cumberland Golf Club, Ladies Bridge and the St. Bridget Circle of her church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail George of Barron, and Mary Olson of Maple Grove, Minn.; three sons, Bill of Minneapolis, Tom of Cumberland and Joe of Eau Claire; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Durand Burton of Bloomer.
Mr. Goldsmith died Jan. 19, 1982.

Lawrence Grocke
Lawrence "Larry" Grocke, 57, of Shell Lake died March 5 at Indianhead Medical Center in Shell Lake.
Mr. Grocke was born Nov. 9, 1939 to George and Loretta Grocke in Chicago, where he grew up, graduating from Fox Lake Community High School in 1958. On June 7, 1958 he married Barbara Grude in Fox Lake, Ill. Mr. Grocke served in the Army from 1958-62 and worked for Anchor Coupling in Libertyville, Ill., until 1968, when he bought the Back of the Moon Resort on Bear Lake near Haugen, which he operated until 1976. After selling the resort, he worked in management for Amsco in Rice Lake until 1984, when he left the company to become an independent sales representative for P.C. Miller Associates in Brookfield, Ill., until his retirement in 1996. On May 9, 1985 he married the former Beverly DeGidio in Shell Lake. He worked for Northwood Sales in Medford.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; two sons, Steven of Rice Lake and Kenneth of Shell Lake; a daughter, Lauren Blihovde of Barron; a stepson, Richard DeGidio of Sarona; a stepdaughter, Denise DeGidio of Shell Lake; 14 grandchildren; his mother, Loretta Grocke of Wooster, Ill.; three brothers, James, Burton, and George; and four sisters, Margaret Ruffalo, Diane Ericson, Linda Falstad and Jeanette Scott.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Betty Hanson
Betty Jean Hanson, 66, of Cumberland died March 14 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn. Funeral services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley, with Rev. Joel Kreger officiating. Interment of cremains was in McKinley Cemetery.
Mrs. Hanson was born March 1, 1931 in Milwaukee. She grew up in the Luck and Frederic area, graduating from Frederic High School in 1949. On April 15, 1950 she married Gordon Hanson in Frederic. She was a member of Indian Creek American Legion Auxiliary and the Cumberland Senior Citizens. Mrs. Hanson enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five sons, Gordon Jr., of Cumberland, John of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wayne of Chetek, William of Ozark, Ala., and Leonard of Louisville, Ohio; two daughters, Barbara Hanson of Cumberland, and Debra Perrault of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister, Mabel Reno of Frederic.
Mr. Hanson died July 27, 1996, and a daughter, Susan Hanson, died in 1984.

Cora Henrichs
Cora Henrichs, 93, of Birchwood died March 19 at Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.
The former Cora Ruesch was born Aug. 9, 1903 in Evanston, Ill. In May of 1924 she married Arthur Henrichs at Evanston. He died in 1959.
Mrs. Henrichs is survived by a son, Arthur Jr., of Birchwood; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Davis of Lebanon, Ohio, and Irma Schultz of Vacaville, Calif.

William Hill
William Hill, 90, of Birchwood died March 6 at his home.
Mr. Hill was born May 22, 1906 to William and Regina Hill in the Town of Doyle. At an early age he moved with his parents to the Twin Lakes area, where he grew up and attended school in Angus and Brill. After finishing his education, he farmed in the Brill area, and on Aug. 19, 1930 he married the former Irene McGill in Brill. The couple farmed in the Town of Oak Grove until retirement.
Survivors include his daughter, Jean Carol Hill of Birchwood.
Mrs. Hill died in January 1974. A son, William, died at Fort Sill, Okla., in Feb. 1964.

Edith Holter
Edith Holter, 85, of Chetek died March 15 at Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek.
Ms. Holter was born March 1, 1912 in the Town of Dovre to Charles and Maria (Newman) Holter. She attended business college in Eau Claire, and had worked for New York Life Insurance in Eau Claire and then in Minneapolis for 40 years. Ms. Holter served during WWII in the Navy Waves, working in Washington, D.C., for the Bureau of Ships. She lived in Minneapolis for 12 years, retiring in the early 1970s. Ms. Holter had been a member of the Sons of Norway of Minneapolis.
Survivors include two brothers, George and Carl, both of Chetek; and two sisters, Mabel Meisner of Chetek and Anne Pederson of
Cameron.

Leon Horton
Leon E. Horton, 96, of Chetek, died March 23 at Barron Medical Center. Visitation is also an hour prior to services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chetek Advent Christian Church, with Rev. Norman Phillips officiating.
Mr. Horton was born Sept. 10, 1900 in Trevor to Alfred and Flora (Proctor) Horton. He married Leah Rae Henry on June 17, 1925 in Winona, Minn. He had farmed near Chetek, moving to town in 1971. Mr. Horton had been sexton for Lake View Cemetery for over 23 years and served many years as a 4-H leader. Mr. Horton had been on the county conservation board, clerk for rural School District 10, and he was a past manager of the Shipping and Livestock Assn. He and his wife traveled a lot, having gone to Alaska, Yellowstone National Park and the Holy Land. He collected rocks and shells and encased them in plastic clocks, plaques and other items. In 1983 he received a certificate of honor and appreciation from the City of Chetek.
Survivors include his wife, Leah; and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Leonard, died March 16, 1932.

Caspara Hoveland
Caspara Hoveland, 99, a resident of Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek, died March 13.
Mrs. Hoveland was born July 30, 1897 on a farm north of Sand Creek, the daughter of Carl and Maren (Isaakson) Noer. On Dec. 3, 1926 she married Herman Hoveland in Stillwater, Minn. The couple farmed near Sand Creek until 1952, when they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where they owned and operated a Dairy Queen for 2 years. They returned to Wisconsin in 1954, retiring in Eau Claire, where Mrs. Hoveland lived until 1991. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sand Creek and First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was much appreciated for her beautiful crewelwork and afghans.
Survivors include a daughter, Hannah Greenhill of Whitewater; and a son, Dr. Carl Hoveland of Athens, Ga.
Mr. Hoveland died in 1971.

Humphrey-Lindsay
Kylah Justine Humphrey Lindsay, 3 months, died March 9 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Kylah was born Nov. 22, 1996 in Rice Lake to Melissa Humphrey and Brent Lindsey. She is survived by her parents; maternal grandparents, Bruce and Cindy Lamers of Rice Lake; maternal grandfather, Thomas Humphrey of Neillsville; paternal grandparents Bill and Benay Lindsay of Rice Lake; great-grandparents, George and Darlene Bixby of Neilsville; and paternal great-grand father, George Russeau of Rice Lake.

Geralyn Jacobson
Geralyn Jacobson, 53, of Cumberland died March 30 at Barron Medical Center.
Ms. Jacobson was born Dec. 16, 1943 in Barron to Harold and Etta (McManus) Weise. She grew up in Barron, graduating from high school there in 1962. She worked for a year at the University of Minnesota and on June 8, 1963 she married Alvin Jacobson in Barron. They lived at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla., returning to Barron in 1965. She worked at the Bank of Barron for 16 years and Rice Lake Implement for many years. The past 11 years she had worked at Barron Electric.
Survivors include her parents, Harold and Etta Weise and a son, Daniel, all of Barron; a daughter, Tammy Jacobson of Prescott; two brothers, Dennis Weise of Cameron and Lonnie Weise of Shoreview, Minn.; and three grandchildren.
