Andrew Gago
Phillips resident Andrew L. Gago died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips at the age of 77.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, at Our Lady of the North Church St. Mary's Building with Fr. Clement Sobr officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Heindl Funeral Home where a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
A complete obituary will be published next week.

Daisy Hanson
Brantwood resident Daisy Dorothy Hanson died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk at the age of 84.
Born June 14, 1914, in Jacobsen, Minnesota, to Harry and May (Vanstenberg) Riggs, she attended school in Minnesota and married James F. Hanson in Jacobsen on September 3, 1935. The couple moved from a farm in Pallisade, Minnesota, to Brantwood in 1951 where they farmed until retiring in 1977. A member of the Spirit United Methodist Church and the Spirit Homemakers, she enjoyed gardening in her free time.
The funeral was held Wednesday, June 2, at the Spirit United Methodist Church with Reverend Judie Jacobson officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Spirit. Pallbearers were David Hanson, Kathy Hamlin, Mark Hanson, Jacqui Hanson-Hietala, James Hanson, Russell Hanson and Misty Obgartel.
Mrs. Hanson is survived by three sons: Earl (Sandy) and James (Betty), both of Tomahawk, and Kenneth (Vicki), Prentice; two brothers, Earl (Hazel), Duluth, Minnesota, and Dan (Marlys), Bagley, Minnesota; a sister, Esther Dengerud, Superior; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1994; a brother, Art; and by two sisters, Martha Scott and Lucy Frye.
The Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home, Rib Lake, served the family.

Leon Schroeder
Fifield resident Leon James "Lee" Schroeder died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Petersen Rehabilitation Center in Rhine-lander at the age of 78.
Born March 28, 1921, to William and Matie (Knight) in the Town of Rolling, Langlade County, he graduated from Antigo High School in 1939 and from the UW-Madison in 1949 with a BBA in business and finance. He was employed at the First National Bank of Monroe from 1949-66, was vice president of the State Bank of Hartland from 1967-69 and organized the Hartland National Bank in 1970 where he served as president until 1974. He was also a bombardier pilot in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater from 1943-45, discharged as a captain, and in the Army Air Reserve from 1945-55. He married Emily Zellmer in 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama, and she predeceased him in 1970. He married Patricia McConnell in 1971 and the couple owned and operated the Valley Hotel in Park Falls from 1975 to retirement in 1980. He was active in the Price County Historical Society, serving as treasurer from 1980-98, and curator of the Old Town Hall Museum. A Mason and president of the Monroe Lions Club, he served as president of the Capital City Conference, NABAC, in 1955 and the Green County Bankers Association.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Park Falls at 2 p.m.
Mr. Schroeder is survived by his wife, Patricia; three daughters: Laura (Mrs. Mike) Brandt, Golden, Colorado; Jane, Livingston; and Sue, Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Harold, Florence; a granddaughter; and by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Russell and Donald, and by a sister, Dorothy.

Loretta Beijer
Phillips resident Loretta Anna Beijer died at Pleasant View Nursing Home on Monday, June 7, 1999, at the age of 83.
Born in Milwaukee September 8, 1915, to Robert and August Janke, she married Albin Beijer there on September 19, 1936. She was employed as a secretary in the public relations industry until retirement in 1970 when she moved to Price County. A member of Saint John Lutheran Church and a Sunday school teacher, she also belonged to the Rhinelander Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Journalism Society.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Saint John with Reverend Thomas Reiff officiating. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Phillips. Friends may call at the church Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Mrs. Beijer is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Ronald) Koerner, Milwaukee; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and by a great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Albin, on September 18, 1995, and by a brother and a sister.
The Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips, is in charge of the arrangements.

Andrew Gago
Town of Flambeau resident Andrew "Andy" Louis Gago, Jr. died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips at the age of 77.
Born October 2, 1921, in Phillips to Andrew Sr. and Agnes (Began) Gago, he was a lifelong Phillips resident, graduating from Phillips High School, Class of 1941. He served in the US Army from 1942-45 in the European Theater of Action in England, France and Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Married to Mary Tadin on August 24, 1946, in Phillips, he was a dairy farmer and logger and worked at Flambeau Feed Mill, then at Omark Industries in Prentice as a welder for over 20 years prior to retirement.
The funeral was held Friday, June 4, at Our Lady of the North Catholic Church St. Mary's Building with Father Clement Sobr officiating. Interment was at St. Patrick's Cemetery with Military Honors by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post 122, Phillips.
Mr. Gago is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters: Diane (Mrs. Ron) Tingo, Phillips; Kathleen Gago, Zimmerman, Minnesota; and Cynthia Gago, Cheyenne, Wyoming; five sons: Darrell (Diane), Tony; Larry, Turtle Lake; Robert (Mary), Oshkosh; and Mike (Barb) and Tony (Vicki), both of Phillips; 24 grandchildren; and by five sisters: Ellie Koslowski, Mary Weinzinger and Anne (Mrs. Leonard) Mancl, all of Phillips; Bernice (Mrs. Bill) Brockdorf, West Bend; and Mildred (Mrs. Bob) Kurtz, Madison. He was predeceased by two brothers, Rudy and Albert.
The Heindl Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lempi Niemi
Ogema resident Lempi Maria Niemi died at the Rib Lake Health Care Center on Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at the age of 93.
Born December 7, 1905, in Bessemer, Michigan, to Victor and Elin (Hopponen) Muhonen, she moved to Ogema as a young girl and attended the Leavitt Creek Graded School. She married Mauno Niemi on May 28, 1925, at St. Marx Lutheran Church in the Town of Hill. The couple operated a dairy farm and she enjoyed making Christmas wreaths and taking care of stray cats. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Prentice, its choir and its ladies aid.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Duane Jalas officiating. Burial was at Leavitt Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alan Kloehn, Melvin Heinlein, Dale Niemi, Alan Niemi, Roger Bergman, Marvin Arkola and honorary bearer Randy Miller.
Mrs. Niemi is survived by three daughters: Mildred (Mrs. William) Rudolph, Cayuga; Lillian Miller, Oshkosh; and Kathleen (Mrs. John) Kloehn, Minocqua; and by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Mauno, on June 2, 1991; a grandson, William Rudolph Jr.; two brothers, Waino and William; three sisters, Hilda Heinlein, Sylvia Mickel and Lila Holmes; and by a son-in-law, James Miller.
The Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home, Rib Lake, served the family.

Wilbert Salonen
Former Brantwood resident Wilbert T. Salonen, Trevor, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 79.
Born July 15, 1919, in Brantwood to Toivo and Hilma (Hendricksen) Salonen, he served in the US Army and worked as a carpenter. Married to Viola Tupanen in Chicago on April 3, 1943, he belonged to the Schultz-Hahn American Legion Post 293 of Silver Lake and of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 525 of Antioch, Illinois, and was a life member of the Carpenters Union Local 58 in Chicago.
The funeral was held Wednesday, June 9, at the Strang Funeral Home in Antioch, with private interment at Liberty Cemetery, Trevor.
Mr. Salonen is survived by his wife, Viola; a son, Wayne (Ginetta), Antioch; two granddaughters; two sisters, Lily Keith, Burlington, and Violet Dellneck, Chicago; and by four nieces, two grand-nieces and a grandnephew.
