Agnes Dodds, 84
Agnes Dodds, 84, of Rochester, Minn., and formerly of Hudson and River Falls, died at the Bear Creek Care Center in Rochester on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998.
She was born on June 2, 1914, in Tony, the daughter of Lewis and Nellie (Havorka) Vanderlinden. She went to elementary and high school.
She married Grover Dodds on June 12, 1932. They lived in Minneapolis. In 1959 they moved to River Falls.
In 1982 they moved to Hudson and in 1992 she moved Rochester, where she was living at the time of her death.
She was a homemaker all of her life. She volunteered for the American Legion and was recognized for her work. She was presented an award on Veteran's Day earlier this month.
She loved playing the organ, traveling and boating on the St. Croix River.
She loved her family and made many friends with her cheerful smile and joyous personality. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover; and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene and Austin Jorgenson of Rochester; her son, David and Doris Dodds of Payneville, Minn.; her brothers: Lewis and Marie Vanderlinden of San Diego, Thomas and Jean Vanderlinden of Harbor, Ore., and Richard and Nancy Vanderlinden of Portland, Ore.; sister-in-law, Adeline Vanderlinden of Antiock, Calif.; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Monday, Nov. 23, at O'Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson. Special services were provided by her grandson, Scott Jorgenson, vocalist daughter-in-law Doris Dodds, and organist Cheryl Forester.
Burial was in Mann Valley Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred.

George Ammann, 45
George Ammann, 45, of St. Paul died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
He was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Hudson. He attended grade school at St. Bridget Parish School. He graduated from high school at St. John's Prep of St. Cloud, Minn. He later attended technical college to become a master chef. He worked at various country clubs and enjoyed skiing, fishing, golfing and spending days with his son, Tedd.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; his father, Anthony; and his brother, Timothy.
He is survived by his son, Tedd, of Woodbury, Minn.; his brothers and sisters: Janice Culbreth, Tony and Dora Ammann, Rita and Maynard Swanson, James Ammann, Frank and Pat Ammann, Susan Ammann, Mary Odman, John Ammann, Helen Amman, Antoinette Johnson, Duane and Kim Ammann, Robert Ammann, and Ted Ammann; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral was Monday, Nov. 23, at St. Bridget Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial was in St. Bridget's Cemetery.
Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.

LaVerne Auchampach, 87
LaVerne Auchampach, 87, of River Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at The Lutheran Home: River Falls.
He was born in Wisconsin, the son of Leonard and Alia Best. He married Alma Moe in 1934.
For many years he worked at a lumber yard.
Visitation was at the Cashman Mortuary.
Funeral was Friday, Nov. 20, also at the mortuary, with the Rev. Carol Heckman officiating.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.

Delite H. L. Baker, 86
Delite Helen Leona (Peterman) Baker, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998.
Born Nov. 21, 1911, in Foley, Minn., she was the daughter of Otto Wilhelm Peterman and Leona (Schwandt) Peterman. She had two brothers: William Frederick and Fredrick Otto Peterman. She was known to her friends as "Petie."
She graduated from Foley High School in 1929 and received her degree in nursing from the University of Minnesota in March of 1933. She went on to become a registered nurse in August of 1933. She served her internship at General Hospital in Minneapolis and her residency at St. Croixdale in Prescott, where she was a nurse for 7 years.
She married Leo William Baker at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Nov. 12, 1940, a marriage that lasted 45 years. They had six children: James, Joseph, Robert, Richard, Mary and William.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Blythe, Calif., in 1940, so Leo could work at the telephone company and the U.S. Army's Desert Training Center (DTC).
Delite worked at Riverside Hospital in Blythe until the birth of her first child. From 1944-45 they also ran a gas station, Baker's Oil Company, where Delite helped out by pumping gas and washing cars.
In 1945 they moved to Mayville, N.D., as Leo was offered a job in the telephone company there. In 1947 they moved back to Prescott for the remainder of their lives.
Leo purchased the St. Croix Boat Works in 1949 and Delite was the bookkeeper until 1956, when the Boat Works was sold. Leo started his own business, Baker Construction Company, in 1962, where Delite prepared the payroll and billing until Leo retired in 1974.
Delite did seasonal work at Jacque's Seed Company before becoming the nurse/receptionist at Dr. Howard Laney's office from 1960-1978.
The couple rented a house on Young Street until December of 1950 when they bought a house on the corner of Gibbs and Cherry streets, where they lived until August of 1964, when they moved into their new home on Linn Street, built by Leo and their sons.
Delite was a Cub Scout den leader for Troop #133 from 1953-55. She was also involved with Girl Scouts as a leader for Troop #100 from 1955-61. She was an active member of the PTA for many years. She was also a member of the TOPS and KOPS organization for over 20 years, during which time she held various positions of leader, co-leader and secretary.
She enjoyed many crafts throughout her life: candle-making, cake decorating, knitting and beadwork, making sure that each new addition to her extended family received one of her beadwork bells, complete with a name plaque. She gave many of her handmade candles to her large number of friends with whom she shared enduring friendships.
She was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ in Prescott and was a member of the Rebecca group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, Otto and Leona; and her brothers.
She is survived by her children: James and Joan of Prescott, Joseph and Inez of San Diego, Robert and Kathleen of Prescott, Richard and Sheri of Sycamore, Ill., Mary and David Thoen of River Falls, and William and Virginia of Prescott; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation was Friday, Nov. 13, at Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Prescott.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 14, at Prescott United Church of Christ.

Alderman, Ronald R.
Nov. 4, 1938 - Oct. 23, 2001
CARPENTERSVILLE -- Ronald R. Alderman, age 62, died Tues., Oct. 23, 2001, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Tomah, WI, the son of Raymond and Maves (Goodbear) Alderman. He was anU.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He loved to travel, hunt, and he enjoyed country music. He was a transporter for senior citizens. Ronald was also an active member of the Ho-Chunck Nation.
He is survived by his father, Raymond of Adams, WI; a daughter, Brandee L. Alderman of Carpentersville; 2 brothers, Lorenzo (Dorothy) of Fridley, MN, Alvin ``Shorty'' (Pat) of Edgerton; a sister, Vivian Flitsch of Edgerton, WI; a granddaughter, Savanna F. Dennis of Carpentersville. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1988; his wife, Faye M. ``Red Owl'' Alderman in 1987.
Visitation will be held on Fri., Oct. 26, from 4 to 9 p.m. at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, West Dundee, and on Sunday at the ROSEBERY FUNERAL HOME in Friendship, WI from 9 until 1 p.m., with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Repose Cemetery in Friendship.

Allen, Helen M.
July 18, 1906 - Oct. 23, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Helen M. Allen, age 95, of 1700 S. River Rd., died Tues day, Oct 23, 2001 at Cedar Crest. She was born July 18, 1906 in Illinois, the daughter of John and Eleanor Evans. She married Richard E. Allen on Sept. 12, 1930 in Chicago, IL., he died on Feb. 12, 1988. Mrs. Allen was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at the Cedar Crest Chapel. Rev Bruce Jones and Rev Glenn Skatrud officiating. Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Balk, Charles Paul
Feb. 14, 1933 - Oct. 29, 2001
PALMYRA -- Charles Paul Balk, age 68, of Tamarack Road, died Mon., Oct. 29, 2001, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 14, 1933, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Weslow) Balk in Pennsburg, PA. He moved to the Dousman area and resided with his aunt and uncle, Suzanne and John Schmidt. He joined the Marine Corps. and served in the Korean conflict. He married Kathleen Marsh on March 19, 1955, in Sullivan, WI. He was employed at Wern Farms, he was a self-employed bulk milk hauler for Dean's Foods, worked for the Palmyra Police Department and the Palmyra Public Works Department. Upon retirement, he was employed part time by the Blue Springs Lake Management District. He was Town of Palmyra Constable for 30 years, retired member of the Palmyra Fire Department, life member of the Tri-County Marine Corps League, Palmyra Lions Club and life member of the Whitewater V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; 3 children: William (Joan) of Palmyra, Robert (Debra) of Eagle, Lisa (Peter) Griep of Whitewater; 4 granddaughters: Stephanie Balk, Brooke, Carlee Balk and Molly Griep; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; mother-in-law, Martha Marsh and many cousins; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; aunts; uncles and father-in-law, Kenneth Marsh, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 2, 2001, at ST. MATHEW LUTHERAN CHURCH in Palmyra. Pastor Steven Blyth will officiate with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Palmyra with full Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mathew's Lutheran Church in Palmyra. Mealy's Funeral Home of Eagle is serving the family.
