Wellnitz, Nicholas L.
October 20, 1950 - July 10, 2002
BELVIDERE, IL/JANESVILLE -- Nicholas L. Wellnitz, age 51, died on Wed., July 10, 2002, in his home, following a long illness. Nicholas was born Oct. 20, 1950, in Janesville, the son of Joseph and Charlotte (Hall) Wellnitz. He graduated from Milton High School in 1968 and from Milton College in 1972, and attended Rock Valley College from 1984-1986, specializing in Computer Science classes. He lived 24 years in Rockford, IL, having moved there from Janesville. He married Ayn Masilko in Rockford on March 6, 1981. Nicholas was employed as Program Analyst by Amcore Bank for 6 years and was a member of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church and the American Contract Bridge League.
He is survived by his wife, Ayn Masilko of Belvidere; a foster child, Mark James Wilson of Belvidere; Ayn's children: Carrie Keller of Fresno, CA and Francis Masilko of Marysville, WA; his parents, Joseph M. Wellnitz of Milton and Charlotte (Hal) Farnsworth of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 sisters, Mary (Glen) June of Sarasota, FL and Debra (Abdul) Bourouti of Salt Lake City, UT; a brother, Randall (Denise) Wellnitz of Janesville; 4 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Geraldine Wellnitz; maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Mon., July 15, 2002, in POPLAR GROVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, with the Rev. Dan Schenck, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the BUCK-WHEELER-HYLAND FUNERAL HOME, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials to Poplar Grove United Methodist Church are appreciated. Arrangements by BUCK-WHEELER-HYLAND FUNERAL HOME.

Whitmore, Harlan R.
February 20, 1917 - July 20, 2002
ELKHORN, WI -- Harlan R. Whitmore, age 85, of 209 Grant St., Elkhorn, died Sat., July 20, 2002, at Holton Manor Nursing Home of Elkhorn. He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in the town of Spring Prairie, WI, the son of Harold and Luella (Wolfe) Whitmore. He graduated from East Troy High School in 1934. Harlan married Marian Sommer Oct. 9, 1948, in Beloit, WI. Harlan was a herdsman for over seven years with the Dougan Farm of Beloit, from 1945 until 1952. He then moved and farmed in the East Troy and Elkhorn area for over 40 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elkhorn.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian; 2 sons, Bruce (Ruth) Whitmore of Jefferson, WI and Kenneth Whitmore of Elkhorn, WI; 5 grandchildren: Timothy and Kimberly Whitmore, Karen (Brent) Clark, Jeffrey and Sally Whitmore; and 2 sisters, Carol Meister and Ruth Whitmore, both of Lake Geneva, WI. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Merry; and a brother, Easton Whitmore.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., July 24, 2002, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH of Elkhorn with Rev. Gerald Petersen officiating. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery of Spring Prairie, WI. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the HAASE-DERRICK-LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOME, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be made in Harlan's name to St. John's Lutheran Church. Arrangements were completed by HAASE-DERRICK-LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOMES.

Wieck, Marvin L.
August 26, 1919 - July 8, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Marvin L. Wieck, age 82, 2707 N. Lexington Dr., died at his home Monday morning, July 8, 2002. Marvin was born in Beloit on Aug. 26, 1919, the son of John Lee and Hannah (Albright) Wieck. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1937. Following graduation, he began working at Fairbanks-Morse Company and continued working there until entering the U.S. Army in 1941. He served in Belgium, Germany, and England prior to being discharged in 1945. Marvin married Marian Clayton on Oct. 20, 1945. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Fairbanks-Morse, where he worked as a cost accountant for a total of 46 years, retiring in 1984. In 1985, he and Mrs. Wieck moved to Janesville from Beloit. Mr. Wieck was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Wieck of Janesville; a son, David Lee (Carol) Wieck of Madison, WI, and their children: Shanna, Kristin, Nicole and Jessica Wieck; a son-in-law, Jim Povlich of Muskego, WI, and his children, Michelle and Jason Povlich; and a sister, Bernice Watters of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Povlich; his parents; 3 sisters; and a brother.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., July 11, 2002, at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2940 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, with Pastor Thomas Colgrove officiating. Interment will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Beloit. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Incorporated or Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, is assisting the family.

Wiersma, Marie A.
September 26, 1925 - July 24, 2002
JANESVILLE -- Marie A. Wiersma, age 76, of 1614 Myra Ave., died of cancer Wed., July 24, 2002, at Haven House Hospice. She was born in Columbus, WI, Sept. 26, 1925, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Schroedel) Ibisch, and had attended Grinnell College, Grinnell, IA. Marie married Joseph A. Wiersma Oct. 8, 1948, in Columbus, and has been a Janesville resident since. Joseph died March 12, 1989. She was employed at Green and McDonald Insurance Co. for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its choir for many years. Marie enjoyed music, playing the piano, and gardening.
She is survived by her 4 children: Terry Wiersma of Milton, Steve Wiersma of Janesville, Michael (Maria) Wiersma of Rockdale, and Joan (Albert) Kilger of Brownsville, MN; 5 grandchildren: Chad Wiersma of Janesville, Stephanie (Ken) Balch of Milton, Danelle Wiersma of Stevens Point, and Albert and Andrew Kilger, both of Brownsville, MN; 2 stepgranchildren, Jeremiah and Aaron Salter, both of Rockdale; 6 great-grandchildren: Steven, Peyton, Hunter, Dayne, McKenna, and Morgan; a sister, Esther (William) Wilson of White Sulphur Springs, WV; and 2 brothers, Herbert (Gladys) Ibisch of West Allis and Laurence (Esther) Ibisch of Bronx, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; and a sister, Doris Ibisch.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sat., July 27, 2002, at ST. PAUL'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Paul H. Garchow and Rev. David P. Ramel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services at the church. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.

Wolf, William R.
October 13, 1911 - July 9, 2002
WAUKESHA, WI -- William R. Wolf, age 90, died Tues., July 9, 2002, in Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit, WI. He was born Oct. 13, 1911, in Waukesha, the son of Frank and Ann Ellen "Nellie" Roberts Wolf. He graduated from Waukesha High School and attended Carroll College. Bill married Mildred "Millie" Niedermeier on June 6, 1936, in Waukesha; she died on Nov. 17, 1993. Bill was a Deputy Sheriff for Waukesha County. In 1955, he became the first investigating officer and juvenile probation officer for the Waukesha County Juvenile Court. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Waukesha, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Association, the Carroll College Golden Pioneers, Ducks Unlimited, Wetlands for Wildlife, and a 57-year member of the Waukesha Elks Lodge #400. Bill was a Wisconsin Badger, Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid supporter of the sports programs at Carroll College. He loved family events and his daily car rides along the Fox River.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Wendell) Paynter of Beloit; 5 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren: Wendy (Paul) Henning of Beloit and their children, Jason, Jonathan and Jessica, Debra (Jeff) DuCharme of Clinton, WI and their children, Luke (Kristen), Jeremy and Jena, Kathryn (Dr. David) Volk of Jefferson, WI and their children, Emily and Maddie, Matthew (Kathleen) Paynter of Oconomowoc, WI, and Andrew (Poppy) Paynter of Madison, WI and their children, Bryce and Anna; a sister-in-law, Janet Niedermeier of Waukesha; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, especially Jacob and Katie Sommerlot of Waukesha. He was predeceased by his parents; 3 brothers, Harold, Robert and David; 2 sisters, Dorothy and Mary; 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua William Henning and Carrie Lynn DuCharme.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Fri., July 12, 2002, in FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 312 Church Street, Clinton, WI, with the Reverend Keith Abramowski officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services in the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, City of Pewaukee, Waukesha County, WI. DALEY-MURPHY- WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, assisted the family with arrangements.

Woodcock, Ernest R.
OCALA, FL/JANESVILLE -- Ernest R. Woodcock, age 85, retired chemist of Parker Pen Corp., died Fri., July 12, 2002, at TimberRidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Florida. A native of Essex, England, he moved to Florida from Janesville, WI in 1994. Mr. Woodcock was a member of the christian faith and served in the British Forces during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Woodcock of Ocala, FL; his daughter, Karen Wiet of Chicago, IL; his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Pruss of Atlanta, GA; his stepsons, John Elliot of Madison, WI, and Steven Elliot of Milton, WI; 6 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, FL. HIERS MEMORIAL CHAPEL of Florida provided information.

Yahnke, Walter C.
April 26, 1909 - July 31, 2002
MILTON -- Walter C. Yahnke, age 93, passed away on July 31, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Walter was born on April 26, 1909, in Milton, to Paul and Anna (Plantikow) Yahnke, and was a lifelong resident of Milton. He married Mildred Kidder on June 11, 1938, in Milton. He was employed by the railroad from 1929 to 1967 and by the Burdick Corp. from 1967 to 1977. Walter was a member of the First Congregational Church of Milton. Walter had a great love for the outdoors and nature; he was an avid bird watcher and long-time advocate of the Humane Society. Lifetime interests included sports, pets, reading, traveling, and gardening. Walter and Mildred spent much time at their cottage on the Rock River and hosted many family gatherings there.
Walter is survived by 2 brothers-in-law, Donald Boughton of Janesville and Earl Kidder of Edgerton; 3 sisters-in-law: Louise Kidder of Edgerton, Marian Boughton and Bernice Punsel, both of Janesville; special friends, Weichen and Eric Lin of South Barrington, IL, and Beverly Boughton of Edgerton; 9 nieces and nephews: Susan (David) Engeseth, Jane (Robert) Hill, Virginia (Steve) Hallett, James (Ede) Kidder, Douglas Boughton, Bradley Boughton, Kenneth (Sue) Kidder Sr., Clark (Linda) Kidder, and Ronald Kidder. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, on Sept. 1, 2001; his parents; 3 brothers-in-law: Clair Punsel, Warren Kidder, and Donald Kidder; a sister-in-law, Nancy Kidder; a nephew, Daniel Boughton; and a great-nephew, Donald Kidder.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 10, 2002, at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH in Milton with Rev. Herbert Saunders officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the church. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
