The area had experienced a storm that had left a lot of debris on the ground. Young Dayton was helping the owner, whose name was Tony, clear some of the twigs, when the older brothers started calling Dayton “Little Tony”, thereby starting a lifetime nickname. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and any activity that was family oriented. He was recently most proud of his flower and vegetable gardens.

After his retirement, Dayton and Catherine traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. They wintered in the southeast and Arizona, until illness in 2004 brought them back to their home in Tiffany. Dayton was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Clinton, the American Legion Post 440, the Grand Investors and the Clinton Senior Center, where he was a volunteer of 10 years. He volunteered for a number of groups including Retired Senior Citizens (RSVP) where he participated in the Riverfest and worked at the Beloit City Hall, the Clinton Non-Motorized Parade and Chrysler’s Charitable Giving Committee, delivering Holiday Food Baskets to families in need.

Always a prankster, Dayton was well known and appreciated for his wit and dry sense of humor.
