Bruce D. Terland Sr.

Avalon, WI - Bruce D. Terland age 87, died Saturday October 17, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Bruce was born August 30, 1922 to the late Hjalmar and Mildred (Ruosch) Terland in St. Paul Park, MN. At age 19, he enlisted into the U.S. Army on March 14, 1942. Bruce drove a Sherman tank in Company C of the 737th Tank Battalion, part of Gen. George Patton’s Third Army, which rushed to reinforce the American units overrun by German attack during the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1948. He was particularly proud of his Norwegian back ground and would often boast of the Terland Mountains in Norway. Bruce was a knowledgeable WW II and Viking historian. He was hired in 1949 at GMC Fisher Body as an apprentice paint-glazer. Bruce also worked at GM as a paint-glazer for 31 years until his retirement. Bruce was a charter and founding member of the Diablo Lobo’s M.C. He loved riding his Harley and enjoyed the open rode for over 50 years.

He married Marlis Williams in 1956; she preceded him in death in 1958. Bruce married Gertrude Tetting in June of 1959 and their marriage produced two wonderful children Bruce Jr. and Renee. In 1979, Bruce married the former Geraldine Pann Thompson of Beloit.

He is survived by his wife, Geri Terland of Avalon; his son, Bruce (Elizabeth) Terland of Fort Atkinson and four children, Bruce III, twins Ryan (Hilary) & Rachel and Matthew Mueller; and five great grandsons; his daughter, Renee (Scott) Wollin of Fort Atkinson and two children, Chad & Grant (Megan) Ganzow; and one great granddaughter; his brother, Duane Terland; his sister, Bette Emerson; a step sister, Colleen Sindermann and many cousins.

He is further survived by Geri’s eight children, Jennie Thompson, Mary (Al) Lafever, Linda (Roger) Rozell, James (Turi) Thompson, Bill (Terri) Thompson, John Thompson, Robert (Donna) Thompson and David Thompson; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother in law, Larry Pann and many friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 24, 2009 at THE RIVER of LIFE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 402 Church Street, Clinton with his cousin, Rev. Dale Ruosch officiating. Friends will be received on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 504 Milwaukee Road, Clinton and again on Saturday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The cortege will proceed to Emerald Grove Cemetery for Full Military Burial Rites and interment. All are welcome to join family at the Senior Center 508 Front Street, Clinton for luncheon and fellowship following the burial. A memorial is being established in his name.

A Ride In to the Hat Rack in Avalon, WI will follow the luncheon in Honor of Bruce.

Myrtle C. Gifford

Clinton, WI - Myrtle C. Gifford age 95, died Saturday October 17, 2009 at Alden Meadow Park in Clinton under the Care of Beloit Regional Hospice. Myrtle was born September 20, 1914 to the late Chris and Christine (Andersen) Andersen in Allens Grove, WI. She married Raymond Gifford on October 3, 1936 in Clinton, WI. He preceded her in death in October of 1989. Myrtle was a longtime member of Pella Lutheran Church and most recently Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church. She was an avid gardener and a superb cook. Myrtle was especially skilled at making Aebleskiver, her “Delicious Danish pancakes in the round” and her famous homemade donuts that she shared with many friends. She was also proficient at crotching, sewing and creating beautiful afghans.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Pennewell of Beloit; three grandchildren, Dawn, Pam & Raymond and many great and great great grandchildren. She is further survived by her very special and dear friend, Doris Statton of Clinton and longtime friend and care giver, Jennifer (Kevin) Olson and their two children, Aiden & Ava of Clinton and many Pella Lutheran Church friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Myrtle’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at JEFFERSON PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 23184 Bergen Road, Poplar Grove, IL with Pastor Thomas G. Groth officiating. Friends will be received at Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Cortege will process to Clinton Cemetery for committal prays and interment. All are welcome to gather at Church for luncheon and fellowship following the burial. Memorials may be directed to Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church.

Robert J. “Rocky” Rotkovich

Newark Township - Robert J. “Rocky” Rotkovich, 65 died Tuesday January 19, 2010 surrounded by his family at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Rocky was born October 7, 1944 to Samuel and Josephine (Seminara) Rotkovich in Chicago, IL. He married the former Rose DiCicco on March 16, 1987 in Oak Park, IL. Rocky enlisted and served in the U.S Army until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1962. He worked as a Pressman for the Chicago Sun Times and was a member of the Local Union of Graphic Communications for 35 years until his retirement in 2007. After retirement, Rocky and Rose moved to Beloit to be closer to family. He was a “Steward of the Land” and enjoyed gardening and the many joys of country living. Rocky cherished the time he shared with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; five children, Christina “Tina” ( Douglas) Slove, Robert Olmstead, Tony (Vicki) Rotkovich, Cary (Sher) Rotkovich & Marty Rotkovich; his mother Josephine Rotkovich; nine grandchildren, Angela, Alex, Serena, Bobby, Logan, Tessa, Ryan, Sammy & Nolan; one great granddaughter, Ariella. He is further survived by his brother, Curt (Marybeth) Rotkovich; two sisters, Debbie (Frank) Schmidt & Juanita Principata and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel.

Rocky’s Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday January 23, 2010, in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl of Our Lady of the Assumption Church officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Burial Rites will take place immediately following the service. A memorial fund is being established. All are welcome to join the family in our Fellowship Hall for a catered lunch.

Rocky’s Memorial Service will be 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 26, 2010 at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, 18645 Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL. Friends will be received on Tuesday at Church from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Donna Mae Stluka

Beloit - Donna Mae Stluka, 75, of Beloit, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2009, in Skaalen Sunset Home in Stoughton, WI. She battled Alzheimer’s disease for the last few years, and was lovingly cared for by the staff of Skaalen Sunset Home and Hospice of Rock County. She was born August 5, 1934 in rural Soldier’s Grove, Crawford County, WI, the daughter of Fred and Edith Bailey Schoville. Soon after birth, Donna’s six younger siblings fell ill so she could not stay in the home. Her Aunt Frieda and Uncle Buck Clark took her in and ended up raising her as they had no children of their own. Donna was one of 22 children, and she maintained relationships with the rest of her family. She spent her childhood in Bosstown and Soldier’s Grove until her family moved to Beloit where she met Michael and they married on July 28, 1951 in Beloit.

Donna was a 1952 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. She worked at the Wagon Wheel Resort as a waitress with several of her sisters and at Beloit College in administration, where she eventually retired after 20 years. She enjoyed painting, playing tennis, gardening, piano, volunteering at church and was a member of the Beloit Tennis Club. Donna fulfilled a lifetime dream of traveling to the Holy Land in 1968 with a group of Bethel Bible teachers from Wisconsin. Nearing retirement, she also loved going to Hawaii with her family and friends. Donna was also an avid Badgers and Packers fan.

Donna is survived by her husband, Michael; three children, Deborah Stluka of Beloit, WI, Judith (Peter) Goiffon of Beloit, WI and David (Cathy Liewen) Stluka of Oregon, WI ; five grandchildren, James (Jessica Foglia) Goiffon, Peter, Sarah and Jon Goiffon and Spencer Stluka; seven sisters, Lola (Bob) Caracristi, Susan (Dennis) Kane, Janice Stitts, Sharon (Hoyt) Smith, Annabelle (Bernard) Burwitz, Patsy Shipler, Karen Foell; four brothers, Ronald (Ruth) Schoville, Robert Schoville, Steve (Vicky) Schoville and Gary Schoville; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Linda Stluka in infancy; ten sisters and brothers, Marjorie Carlin, Junior Schoville, Betty Roland, Marlin Schoville, Phyllis Fairchild, Larry Schoville, Freddy Schoville, Linda Folgate, Randy Schoville and Charles Schoville.

A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 749 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI with the Pastor Jennifer Jelinekofficiating. Inurnment will be in Shopiere Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the church.

Lila Mae Ayers

Beloit, WI - Lila Mae Ayers, age 94, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born January 20, 1915 to the late Glen and Amy (Lillie) Wincapaw in LeRoy Township Illinois. She graduated from Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1932. Lila married Lewis Ayers on September 23, 1933 in Rockford. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2000. Lila was a longtime member of Second Congregational Church. She worked in the sales department at Brills Jewelry for many years until retiring in 1983. In younger days, Lila was active with Amvets, enjoyed family picnics & card parties. She was a crocheting machine and was very generous with friends and family with the many items she created. Lila was the ultimate family organizer and cherished her role as mother and grandmother. she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Thomas) Coehoorn of Orfordville, granddaughter, Tamra (Gil) Lyne of Janesville, two great grandsons Jeffrey Lewis and Matthew Xavier Lyne; two sisters, Leora Cornish & Vera Cross. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lloyd & Don Wincapaw.

Lila’s Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday January 16, 2010 at SECOND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 657 Bluff St., Beloit with Rev. Douglas l. Gray officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday at Church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Following the service the cortege will process to Floral Lawns Cemetery for interment.

Ellen Y. Ring

Beloit, WI - Ellen Y. Ring age 78, died Saturday January 9th, 2010 at home with her children by her side. She was born December 28, 1931 to the late Rodrick and Ellen (Kelly) Brunton in Beloit. She married Donald Ring on September 4, 1948 at St. Paul Episcopal Church. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2004. Ellen worked for 34 years assisting the mentally challenged throughout the region retiring in 1997. Her passion and commitment as Director of Operations at the Barbara Olson Center of Hope earned her many award including an Illinois State Award for her creation of “Wings” program. Ellen enjoyed bowling as well as knitting, crocheting and gardening. She was a prolific reader and traveled extensively throughout the United Stated with friends and family. Ellen was a lifelong member of the South Beloit American Legion Auxiliary and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children, Rebecca (Larry) Hall, Debra Ring & Richard Ring; four grandchildren, Todd (Jen) Goodwin, Christian (Alicia) Girard, Cassidy (Bill) Catron and Thomas (Michelle) Goodwin; seven great grandchildren, Kelsey, Hanna, Sam, Leo, Abigail, Lucy & Holden; and her brother Rodrick (Shirley) Brunton, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Penny Coan.

Ellen’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday January 13, 2010 at ST. PAUL EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 212 West Grand Ave. Beloit with Rev. Gail Abbott officiating. Friends will be received on Wednesday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
