She held various church organization offices including having been elected as the first woman to serve on the Council at Christ Lutheran Church in Clinton. Perhaps most of all, Ellie was honored that God provided the opportunity to serve in a Co-management capacity for the Love Boat food sharing program that she and Buzz began in 1982 and in the Christ Lutheran Food pantry in which they became involved in 1990. Ellie loved to cook for large groups and laughed with her friends when one of the church youngsters explained to her mother that the soup that was served was made by the “Little Church Cook”. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

From “The Little Prince” she leaves this thought with you:
In one of the stars I shall be living
In one of them I shall be laughing
And so it will be as if all the stars are laughing
When you look at the sky at night.
And there is sweetness in the laughter of all the stars
And in the memories of those you love.

Judith Elaine Johnson

Janesville/Clinton - Judith Elaine Johnson, age 59, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. She was born February 27, 1951 the daughter of Everett “Snowball” and Eula Mae (Carey) Johnson. Judy was a precious gift to her family and to everyone who met her. Shortly after her birth, Judy was diagnosed as having a developmental disability and cerebral palsy. Rather than place her in an institution, her parents raised Judy at home with her many brothers and sisters with whom she squabbled occasionally and loved constantly. Although she was developmentally disabled, she was very wise. Her intentions always came from her heart and her heart was always pure. Although Judy had a frail body, she had a strong, loving spirit. Although she was unable to walk, her life overflowed with adventure. Although she never spoke, she connected with others through the language of love by extending a healing touch, showing care and concern through intimate eye contact and hugging often. Judy adored all children but she was especially passionate about her nieces and nephews who, in turn, have a special place for her in their hearts.

Judy lived at Canterbury House in Janesville where her caregivers lovingly assisted her in living her life to the fullest. Our family wishes to express our gratitude to her group home family at Canterbury House, Community Connections and Catholic Charities for helping Judy to live an amazing, active, adventure-filled life full of nurturance, love and comfort.

Judy is survived by her brothers, Dean (Vera Eschborn) Johnson of Edgerton, Jim (Judy) Johnson of Madison, her sisters, Nancy Johnson of Madison, Susan (Gary Nolden) Johnson of Belleville, Jane (Randy Schultz) Keller of Appleton and Jacqueline (Tim Thompson) Johnson of Beloit. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews, Emily and Annie Sallows, Cy and Natasha Johnson, Jennae Pica, Colin Brandl, Christopher Herron, and Sarah Harper and great-nieces, Arianna Pica and Jasmine Herron.

Judy’s Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday April 23, 2010 at JEFFERSON PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 23184 Bergen Road, Poplar Grove, IL with Pastor Thomas Groth officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow the service in the Jefferson Prairie Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her parents and her brother, Robert.
