Betty L. Bindl

Beloit - Betty L. Bindl, 81, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, March 19, 2010, in her daughter’s home in Palm Harbor, FL. She was born On June 8, 1928 in Richland Center, WI, the daughter of Roland and Florence Amy Ray. Betty was a graduate of Spring Green High School, class of 1946. She married Bernard A. Bindl on August 27, 1948 in St. John’s Catholic Church, Spring Green, WI. He predeceased her on October 25, 1995. Betty was employed by Beloit Memorial Hospital retiring in 1995. She enjoyed reading and traveling.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Cheryl) Bindl of Acworth, GA, Darla (Manuel) Chavez of Palm Harbor, FL and Kevin Bindl of Beloit, WI; a grandson, Brett Bindl of Franklin, TN; sister, Arlene (Don) Jacob of Beloit, WI; two brothers, Virgil (Lucille) Ray of Spring Green, WI and Roland Ray, Jr. of Mountain Home, AR; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; two sisters, Iva Marie Wilhelms and Kathryn Bixby and a brother Roscoe Ray.

Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday March 25, 2010 at ST. JUDE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 737 Hackett Street, Beloit with Fr. Steve Kortendick officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery, Beloit, WI. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the BRIAN MARK Funeral Home, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:45 p.m. and on Thursday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Robert M. Morris

South Beloit, IL - Longtime area farmer, Robert M. “Bob” Morris, 87 of rural South Beloit, IL, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in his home. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Pecatonica, IL, the son of Myron J. and Blanche M. Maitland Morris. He was a graduate of Hononegah High School, class of 1940. Bob married Phyllis D. Johnson on February 16, 1963 in St. Jude Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. A farmer all of his life, Bob was a member of the Harvard Moose Club and past member of A.M.P.I., Boone County Agricultural Council, North Boone Advisory Council, leader of the Manchester Mavericks 4H Club and Pork Producer Association. Bob also enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Phyllis; his children, Charles R. Morris of Poplar Grove, IL, Thomas M. (Judy) Morris of Delavan, WI, Susan M. (Todd) Frazier of St. Paul, MN, Patrick R. (Joie) Morris of Poplar Grove, IL and William J. (Amy) Morris of Caledonia, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Taylor, MacKenzie, Macy, Grayson, Garrity, Morgan, Ty, Noah, Connar, Paige, Paityn, Madison, and Britton; sister, Corinne Scott of Loves Park, IL ; brother, Richard (Phyllis) Morris of Clinton, WI and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Dad, you’re the greatest. You will always be such an example to your family. The quiet, humble way you went about your life, you never complained, you enjoyed what life gave you and you made the best of everything. From you and mom, we learned how to work hard, go after what we wanted and encouraged each other. We love you!

He was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 716 ShuLar Lane, Clinton, WI with Fr. Sanctus K. Ibe officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, WI. Family will greet friends and family on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with a Rosary service at 7:45 p.m.and also from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bob’s memory to Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation – Emergency Room, 1969 W. Hart Road, Beloit, WI 53511.

Geraldine Rose Staver

Beloit - Geraldine Rose Staver, age 69, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 surrounded by her family in her home. She was born July 30, 1940 to the late Herbert and Charlotte (Shaw) Helser in Beloit. Geraldine married Albert Staver in 1959. She attended Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1959. Geraldine was a member of Cornerstone Church of God and worked as a cook for many years. She enjoyed painting & crocheting. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Dan) Mueller; three sons, Dan (Rupa) Staver, Charles (Robin) Staver & Ed Staver; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; longtime friend, Donna Miller and many friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert, her daughter, Susan, her brother, Jim and her sister, Janice.

Geraldine’s Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 16th, 2010 at CORNERSTONE CHURCH of GOD, 322 Olympian Blvd, Beloit with Pastor David Metzger officiating. Friends will be received at Church on Tuesday from Noon until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established in her name to benefit Beloit Regional Hospice.

Betty R. Beedy

Beloit - Betty Beedy, age 89, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Beloit Health and Rehab. after a long and extended battle with Alzheimer’s Disease surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born April 1, 1920 the daughter of the late Rolland and Daphin (Byrd) Arnold in Portland, IN. She married Glenn D. Beedy on February 10, 1940 in Portland, IN. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2002. Betty graduated from Portland High School, class of 1938 and worked as a sales clerk for Cunningham Bakery for many years. Betty taught herself to play the organ and enjoyed playing Gospel music. She was a beautiful artist of oil painting along with crocheting and knitting. Betty had an extensive doll collection and was a passionate and avid Cub fan. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her five daughters, Carolyn Pollock of Janesville, WI, Judy (Ron) Katalin, Joan Grice (Brad Bowman), Barbara (Chuck) McKillips and Gayle Kopplin, all of Beloit, WI, 11 grandchildren, Mike, Kelly, Lisa, Pam, Mark, Cheryl, Chuck Jr., John, Scott, Jodi and George, 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents her sister, Francis Arnold, her brother, Harry Max, her son in law, Terry Pollock and an infant son, Michael.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beloit Health and Rehab., Beloit Regional Hospice and Dr. Klespis-Wick for the care and compassion they gave Mom.

Betty’s funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 in the BRIAN MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI with Mark Maxted, Chaplain of Beloit Regional Hospice, officiating. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home. The cortege will process to Turtleville Cemetery for interment.

We have always loved you so and now its time to let you go.

Raife Aries Melloch
December 27, 1969 - February 5, 2014

Oregon - Raife Aries Melloch, age 44, passed away on Wednesday, February 05, 2014 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on December 27, 1969 in Chicago, IL to the parents of Marc and Jean (Jarvi) Melloch.

In 1976, he moved to Floodwood, MN where he grew up and attended Lincoln Elementary and High School.

As a child, Raife became an avid fan of rock music, a passion he carried to his dying day. It was during his early and formative years that he also began to display a marked artistic flair, and with patience and dedication, he developed it into an immense talent.

This ultimately led to his attending Madison Area Technical College in Madison, WI. He began in 2010 where his grades earned him honors every semester and he was on track to obtain a degree in Graphic Design in December 2014.

Raife was employed at Amcor in Madison, WI since the summer of 2013 and he previously worked at Sub-Zero for several years.
He served honorably in the United States Army and the Reserve and was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. from 2004 until 2005.

To the end, Raife was a devoted father who displayed a relentless drive to do what he thought best for his children. He was a passionate son, an influential older brother, and a faithful companion.

Raife is survived by his mother Jean Melloch of Floodwood, MN; father Marc Melloch; sons Kaide Melloch of Madison, WI and Keigan Melloch of Bruce, WI; daughter Kierston Melloch of Bruce, WI; ex-wife Heather Holman of Bruce, WI; brothers Tyson Melloch of Madison, WI and Brennan (Melinda Felknor) Melloch of Floodwood, MN; paternal Grandmother June Mallinson of Eldorado Springs, MO; niece Lila Melloch of Floodwood, MN; the love of his life Maggie Sanna of Madison, WI; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ralph and Virginia Jarvi; his paternal grandfather William Melloch; and his uncles Vaughn and Craig Jarvi.

A private celebration of his life will be held at Cress Funeral Home in Sun Prairie. An additional gathering will be held at a later date for family and friends in Floodwood, Minnesota.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all who have offered condolences, prayers, and assistance during this difficult time.

James F. Crow
January 4, 2012

Madison - James F. Crow, age 95, died on January 4, 2012 at Capitol Lakes in Madison. He was born in 1916 in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

James graduated from Friends University in Wichita and received a PhD in Genetics from The Univ. of Texas in Austin.

He began playing in a String Quartet in High School and continued playing his viola up until a few weeks before his death.

Chamber music continued to be his favorite, but he also played for many years in the Madison Symphony Orchestra, and continued to perform at his residence, Capitol Lakes, on a regular basis through the age of 95.

James met his future wife, Ann, in The University of Texas student orchestra, due to a fortunate proximity between the viola and clarinet sections.

He spent 48 years as a teacher and researcher at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

'He is remembered by many former students, both undergraduate and graduate, for his lucid and enthusiastic teaching.

He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, a Fellow of the Japan Academy, a member of the American Philosophical Society, the World Academy of Art and Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the National Academy of Sciences where he has chaired several committees, most recently a committee to study forensic uses of DNA fingerprinting.

His most recent honor is the naming of the James F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution at the University of Wisconsin, Madison devoted to evolutionary research at the University including the departments of Agronomy, Anthropology, Botany, Biochemistry, Genetics and Horticulture.

After his retirement at the age of 70, in 1986, he continued to be an active observer of Genetics research.

For more than 10 years, James F. Crow and William F. Dove edited the popular "Perspectives" column in Genetics, the journal of the Genetics Society of America.

More than 100 of these essays, which cumulatively are a history of modern genetics research and its continuing evolution, were published by the UW Press in 2000 as Perspectives on Genetics.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Crockett Crow in 2001 and descendents include his children, Franklin Crockett Crow, Laura Jean Crow and Catherine Rasmussen; and grandchildren, Laura Rasmussen Torvik, Susanna Rasmussen, Sarah and Matthew Caine and Ailey and Kielan Crow; and great-grandchildren Ivy and Julia.

A memorial service will be held at Capital Lakes Great Hall, 333 W. Main St., Madison on Sunday, January 15th, 2012 at 3pm.

James Crow was a longtime and generous patron of local music.

Memorials could be made to any of the many local musical organizations, the Ann Crow Voice and Opera Fund or the James Crow Distinguished Professorship Fund, UW Foundation, US Bank Lockbox 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278.
