Dorothy Ellen W. Knotts
Dorothy Ellen Williams Knotts, 74, of West Main Street, Grafton, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital of a sudden illness. She was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Taylor County, daughter of the late Howard Ray and Nora Pitzer Williams. She was a telephone operator for three years, a homemaker and owner and manager of Knotts Pallet Co. for 19 years. She was a member of the board of directors of the Taylor County Sheltered Workshop and treasurer of St. John's United Methodist Church for 30 years. She is survived by a son and spouse, David G. and Beverly J. Knotts, of Knottsville; a daughter and spouse, Donna K. and Robert C. Smoot, of Forest Hill, Md.; four brothers and spouses, Leonard and Jean Williams and Dorsey and Ann Williams, all of Knotts ville, Dorman and JoAnn Williams, of Fairmont, and Forrest and Pearl Williams, of Merritt Island, Fla.; four sisters and spouses, Alice and Jack Lucas, of Grafton, Sylvia and John Abel, of Fairmont, Trudy Mills, of Glen Arm, Md., and Jean and Bob Lambert , of Suitland, Md.; five grandchildren, Sharon Davis, of Largo, Fla., Rachel Davis, of Tallahassee, Fla., Christopher Smoot, Alexander Smoot and Anna Jean Smoot, all of Forest Hills. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elbert G. Knotts; a daughter, Shirley Joan Davis; and a brother and two sisters in infancy. George Stevens
George Stevens, 81, of Joetown Community, Mannington, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at home. He was born Jan. 5, 1920, at Salt Lick, Mannington, son of the late Kinsey and Nellie Huffman Stevens. He retired after 23 years of service from the Marion County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was a member of Joetown Church of Christ. He was a member of American Legion Post 40 in Mannington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Wor ld War II. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne and fought in the Battle of Normandy, where he received a Purple Heart. He is survived by three sons, Richard Stevens, of Mannington, George Melvin Stevens and Mark J. Stevens, both of Joetown Community, Mannington; two daughters, Doris R. Freeman, of Fairmont, and Carolyn Carnes, of Monongah; four brothers, Charles, Glen, J unior and Kenneth Steven, all of Mannington; a sister, Helen Uiselt, of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Maude Eurita Fordyce Stevens, on Oct. 8, 1995; a sister, Edna Baker; an infant sister, Mary Stevens; two daughters, Dove Louise "Suzi" Fleming and Barbara J. Reynolds; a son, Ralph Wayne Stevens; and a grandson, Christopher Stevens. Burial will follow in Whetstone Cemetery. A flag-folding ceremony will be held after the funeral by American Legion Post No. 40. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Robert M. Stockdale
Robert M. Stockdale, 86, of Carmichaels, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Wichita, Kan., son of the late D.M. and Lucy Snider Stockdale. He lived in Carmichaels nearly all his life. He was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. On Sept. 30, 1979, he retired from Alltel Pennsylvania after 45 years of servic e. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Joan) Williams, of Chesterfield, Va., and Cindy Cumpston, with whom he made his home; two brothers, Charles E. Stockdale, of West Newton, Pa., and William C. Stockdale, of Westerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, John Williams Jr., David Jeffrey Williams, James Robert Williams and Christina Cumpston; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Guesman Stockdale, on Sept. 5, 1970; two brothers, James Stockdale, in infancy, and Fred Stockdale; and two sisters, Helen Baily Draper and Ruby S. Gideon. Betty R. Campbell Poling
Betty Ruth Campbell Poling, 75, of Fairmont, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born April 1, 1925, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Guy and Avis Gainer Campbell. She retired from Owens-Illinois glass plant in Fairmont after 37 years of service in the packing department. She was active with the Owens Illinois retirees group and served as a leader in Packeretts "B." She was active in AARP before she became ill. She was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. She was raised and baptized in the United Brethren, now known as Christ United Methodist Church, which counted her father as one of its founders. She enjoyed playing the piano and doing crafts. She loved an imals and always had a dog. She is survived by two sisters and a spouse, Melva Hess, of Fairmont, and Margaret and Amos "Bud" Sharpe, of Oakland, Md.; a niece and spouse, Julia and John Ryker, of Newark, Del., and a nephew and spouse, John and Margaret Hess, of College Park, Md. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lester Poling, on March 13, 1968, and a brother-in-law, Tony G. Hess. Max Edwin Maddox
Max Edwin Maddox, 77, of Morgantown, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at home. He was born in Kentucky, son of the late Warren H. and Theo Staats Maddox He was a World War II veteran. He was the former manager of O.J. Morrison Store in Morgantown. He is survived by a son, Rodney Maddox, of Morgantown; a daughter, Jane Bishop, of Lancaster, Va.; a brother, Robert Maddox, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin and Hailie Maddox, of Morgantown, and Morgan and Colby Bishop, of L ancaster, Va. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Ripley.

John Skunda
John Skunda, 89, of The Madison, Morgantown, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born July 16, 1911, in Sidney, Pa., son of the late Michael and Anna Matta Skunda. He retired from Wheeling Steel Corp., where he worked for 48 years in the electrical department as a crane operator. He also served as a Weirton volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Churc h in Weirton. He is survived by three daughters and spouses, Karen and Dr. Marvin Weintraub, of Inverness, Ill., Betty and Charles Webster, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Judy and Kenneth Juskowich, of Morgantown; five grandchildren and spouses, Paul and Lisa Chuma Jr., of I vanhoe, Ill., Deborah and Todd Applegate, of Noblesville, Ind., Dr. Charles and Michelle Webster, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Maria and Matthew Hesselbart, of Longwood, Fla., and Joy J. Juskowich, of Morgantown; and five great-grandchildren, Eric and Austin App legate, and triplets Katherine, Elizbeth and Nicholas Chuma. William E. Mayfield Sr.
William E. Mayfield Sr., 65, of Carnegie, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at home. He was born June 27, 1935, in Masontown, son of the late William H. and Goldie Shaffer Mayfield. He moved to Pittsburgh in 1958, where he was a mason for Sanbrano Corp. until his retirement in the 1970s. He was a member of the local union 373. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Murphy Mayfield; a daughter, Debara Pope; five sons, William E. Mayfield Jr., Ronald L. Mayfield, Raymond G. Mayfield Sr., Ricky L. Mayfield and Timothy Mayfield, all of Pittsburgh; a brother, Jake Mayfield; two sisters , Ida Mayfield and Ada Problems, all of Masontown; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Nola Deloris Brick
Nola Deloris Brick, of Dunbar, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in Morgantown, after a long illness. She was born March 31, 1923, in Eleanor, daughter of the late A.E. and M.E. Jividen. She was a homemaker and a landlord and a member of the Eastern Star and Humphries Methodist Church in Dunbar. She volunteered at the local food pantry and taught disadvantaged children to read. She is survived by two sons, Dr. James Brick and Dr. John Brick, both of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Joshua, Hilary, Jessica and Jamie Michele; and three siblings, Franklin Jividen, Emily Maddox and Clara Fowler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Denver L. Brick. A memorial service will be held at a later date. James Anthony Rogucki
James Anthony Rogucki, 53, of Route 2, Grafton, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 21, 1947, in Clarksburg, son of the late Charles Rogucki Jr. and Grace Anne Guzzi Rogucki. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked at the UCAR Carbon Co. Inc. of Clarksburg. He was a member of Grafton Assembly of God Church, where he was a cell minister. He is survived by his wife, Connie S. Wyckoff Rogucki; a daughter and spouse, Jamie Annette and Wade McGee, of Philippi; two sons, James Anthony Rogucki II and Joseph Aaron Rogucki, both at home; two grandchildren, Wesley and Jordan McGee; a sister and a brother, who are twins, Veronica Haller, of Rosemont, and Robert Rogucki and wife, Mary Rose Lopez, of Tempe, Ariz.; and a half-brother, Charles Rogucki, of New York. Cecil E. Satterfield
Cecil E. Satterfield, 83, of Fairmont, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at The Arbors at Fairmont Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Fairmont, son of the late Clark and Ola Hawkinberry Satterfield. He lived in Torrance, Calif., for more than 20 years. After he returned to Fairmont, he worked for the Fairmont Marion County Transit Authority as a bus driver. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, including one year of foreign service. He was a me mber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 629, in Fairmont. He is survived by a son, Michael Satterfield, of Los Angeles; three sisters, Virginia Digman, of Fairmont, Helen Kister, of Monongah, and Arietta Jones, of Fairmont; three nieces and spouses, Gena and Jon Hart, of Dawson, Yvonne and Gene Legg, of Fairmon t, and Shirley and Howard Burton, of California; two nephews and a spouse, Richard Jones, of Grafton, and Ronald and Patty Satterfield, of Fairmont; and two great-nephews and spouses, Scott and Glo Legg, of Fayetteville, and Ronald and Tonya Satterfield, of Fairmont. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Satterfield and Carroll Satterfield. Ruth K. Teets
Ruth K. Teets, 73, of Eglon, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas. She was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Eglon, daughter of the late Roscoe and Hazel Wotring Lantz. She was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deacon. She was a member of the Eglon Homemakers Club. She is survived by two sons and spouses, Bruce and Mary Teets, of Eglon, and Bradley and Robin Teets, of Stroudsburg, Pa.; three brothers, Alva Lantz, of Mazon, Ill., Maynard Lantz, of Aurora, and Glenn Lantz, of Simpsonville, S.C.; two aunts, Evelyn Har vey, of Cumberland, Md., and Elva "Bobby" Lantz, of Anaheim, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Melinda and Tracy Teets, both of Eglon. Helen F. Ayers
Helen F. Ayers, 53, of 3715 Grafton Road, Morgantown, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a long illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., daughter of Hattie F. Bragg Jolliffe, of Hinton, and the late Thomas B. Jolliffe. She was a homemaker and was Baptist. She is survived by her husband, Douglas E. Ayers; a son, Douglas E. Ayers, of Morgantown; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Tammy) Keener and, Renee D. Ayers, both of Morgantown; three brothers, Thomas E., Joseph L. and Billy R. Jolliffe, all of Hinton; a sis ter, Aretha A. Ward, of Pipestem; and four grandchildren, Michael L. Keener Jr., Douglas E. Pascal "Jack" Lucas, 69, of Route 3, Grafton, Oak Grove community, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Taylor County, son of the late Pascal E. and Christine Ford Lucas. He graduated from Grafton High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from Union Carbide Corp. in Clarksburg, where he was a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Alice I. Williams Lucas; a daughter and spouse, Deborah and Rob Harmison, of Grafton; a grandson, B.J. Harmison, of Grafton; a godson, Daniel J. Ralph Sapp
Ralph Sapp, 78, of Independence, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Wallace B. Murphy Nursing Care Facility in Grafton. He was born March 22, 1922, in Laurel Run, Taylor County, son of the late Charles and Wadie Laughery Sapp. He was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He worked at local sawmills for many years. He was a member of the Laborers Local 379, a member of the Church of Christ and the Newburg Senior Citizens. He is survived by his former wife, Inez Matthew Sapp; a son and spouse, Ralph W. and Charlotte Sapp, of Grafton; a daughter and spouse, Linda E. and Joseph Kantes, of Gladesville; five grandchildren, Donette and Kimberly Sapp, Cheryl and spouse Jeffery F errell, of Middlebourne, Pamela and spouse Darren Glover, of Buckhannon and Robert L. Brewer II, at home; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Ferrell and Haden Glover. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Frank and Charles Sapp Jr.; three sisters, Madge Kuhn, Nellie Fortney, and Edna Colebank, and a son-in-law, Robert L. Edward Clyde Wilson
Edward Clyde Wilson, 77, of Haymond Community, Grafton, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Nestor-ville, son of the late William and Blanche Godwin Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He entered the Army at Fort Hayes, Ohio, on May 27, 1943. He served in England, France, Belgium, and 17 months in the Philippines. He received various decorations and citations including a Bronze Star. He was discharged from Camp Atterbury, Ind., on March 16, 1946. He was a retired heavy equipment operator having worked at Harman Construction Co. of Grafton. He was a member of Bunner's Ridge Coon Hunter's Association, the VFW Memorial City Post 3081, the American Legion Taylor County Post 12 and was Protestant. He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Weaver Wilson, whom he married May 13, 1948; two daughters and spouses, Sue and John Arnold, of Kingwood, and Paula and David Stewart, of Stow, Ohio; five grandchildren, Tony and Tina Stewart, and Jessie, Nicole and C hristopher Arnold; a great-granddaughter, Kelley Arnold; a sister, Ruby Duckworth, of Grafton; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Wilson, of Inwood. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virgie Duckworth; and two brothers, Creed and Denzil Wilson. Friends may call at Donald G. Robert Lee Jones
Robert Lee Jones, 67, of Davis, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2001, at home in Morgantown. He was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Thomas, son of the late William Ray Jones and Evelyn Pearl Shrader Jones. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He retired as an elementary school principal from Anne Arundel County, Md. He was a member of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association. He and his wife worked to establish the Tucker County Community Chor us, and he was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church in Thomas. He is survived by a son, Robert Norman Jones, of Morgantown; two daughters, Sara Elizabeth Herring, of Clarksburg, Md., Frances Bronwyn Jones, of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, William Jones, of Slippery Rock, Pa.; a sister, Sandra K. Lilja, of Bethel Park, Pa .; and a granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by his wife Barbara Norman Jones, in 1996; a brother, Richard Paul; and three sisters, Thelma Jones, Ruth Arnold and Dolores Hartz. At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Thomas, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating. Noel Alva Tenney
Noel Alva Tenney, 77, of Randolph Road, in Morgantown, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born March 13, 1923, in Booth, son of the late Alva and May Kirk Tenney. He was a retired self-employed construction worker and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Joseph W. Summers Lodge 173 AF&AM and was a 33rd degree Scottish Mason. He is survived by his wife Jane Lois Lewellen Tenney; two sons and a spouse, Noel "Skip" and Judy Tenney, and David Tenney, all of Morgantown; a brother, Samuel Tenney, of Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Edna Bowman, of Boone's Mill, Va., and Geneva Miller , of Bellflower, Calif. Ernest Lee Donahoe
Ernest Lee Donahoe, 50, of Selby Lane, Morgantown, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born April 2, 1950, in Keyser, son of the late Stanley Leo and Frances June Robinson Donahoe Jr. He graduated from West Virginia University, and was a sales representative for McElroy Metal Inc., Winchester, Va. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Amy Maria Paul Donahoe; a daughter, Erin E. Donahoe, of Morgantown; a son, Scott M. Donahoe, of Morgantown; and his mother-in-law, Phyllis Paul, of Wheeling. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, until the 1 p.m. service with the Rev. Father William K. Matheny Jr. officiating. Cremation will follow. James Lewis Long Jr.
James "Jim" Lewis Long Jr., 32, of Old Cheat Road, Morgantown, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Ruby Memorial Hospital as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born Aug. 1, 1968, in Morgantown, son of Martha Jane Beckman Long, of Everettville, and James Lewis Long, of Martinsburg. He was a truck driver for Shaffer Trucking in Masontown and was a member of the Arnettsville United Methodist Church. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Martha Beckman, of Everettville; three aunts and a spouse, Dolores Beckman, of Baltimore, Cheryl and Don Caldwell, of Mercer, Pa., and Shirley Hagedorn, of Canyon; two uncles and a spouse, Rusty Beckman, o f Fairmont, and Paul and Patty Long, of Canyon; a fiancee, Stacey Watkins; and two half sisters, Sarah and Emily Long, both of Martinsburg. Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at McCulla Funeral Home. Service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, with the Rev. Sandra Firth officiating.

John Dudash Jr.
John Dudash Jr., 87, of Farmington, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1913, in Hungary, son of the late John Sr. and Mary Dudash. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Farmington, as well as the UMW and the Farmington Sports Club. He had retired from No. 9 Coal Mine in 1972 after more than 49 years of service. He is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Helen Sabo Dudash; a son, Robert Dudash, of Farmington; a sister, Elizabeth Six, of Florida; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Dudash; a son, Steve Junior Dudash; three brothers, Albert, Louis and Steve Dudash; and a sister, Priscilla Dudash. Friends may call at Dent Funeral Home in Farmington from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Farmington w ith Father Franklin A. Neville officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Fairmont.

Edward E. Obrad
Edward E. Obrad, 66, of Harmony Grove, Morgantown, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at home. He was born June 24, 1934, in Morgantown, son of the late Frank and Mildred H. Taylor Obrad. He retired from Sterling Faucet after 43 years of service. He was Pentecostal. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolly K. Starkey Obrad; a son and spouse, Chester and Ann Obrad, of Harmony Grove; two daughters and spouses, Kathy and Jim Bennett, of Westover, and Joy and Frank Taylor, of The Woodlands, Texas; a brother, Charle s Obrad, of Mount Morris, Pa.; a sister, Mildred Bennett, of Maidsville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and David Obrad. Friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, with the Rev. David M. Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
