ATHENS -- Graveside service for Mattie Potter Thorson, 81, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Madison City Cemetery with Bobby Turpin officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Thorson died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Sun Bridge Health Care in South Pittsburgh, Tenn. She was born May 20, 1918, in Madison County. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Trietsch Thorson of Huntsville; one daughter, Caroline Williams of Albertville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Ricky Lowery Kidney Fund at Regions Bank in Athens.

Joe Von Sas
68, self-employed engineer

HARTSELLE -- Memorial services for Joe Von Sas, 68, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Culotta officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sas died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in Slidell, La. He was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Baltimore, Md., to Harry and Philomena Sproley Von Sas. He was a self-employed engineer with SMR Inc., in Florida and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended to St. Ann's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Von Sas; two sons, Paul Von Sas and Mark Von Sas, both of Maryland; one daughter, Joanne Weatherspoon of Texas; one stepson, Robert Schrimsher of Decatur; one brother, Harry Von Sas of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Cass Sandwick of New Mexico and Gertrude Miller of West Virginia; six grandchildren; and 12 step grandchildren.

Ella Lee Garth Cater
80, nurse's assistant

Funeral for Ella Lee Garth Cater, 80, of Decatur will be Thursday at noon at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Green brier with the Rev. John Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Cater died March 23, 2000, in Queens, N.Y. She was born June 13, 1919, in Morgan County to Elmer and Lela Tucker Garth. She was a member of Moulton Heights Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was a foster grandparent and worked as a nurse's assistant at Baugh-Wiley Hospital, Decatur General Hospital and Parkway Medical Center. She was the widow of the Rev. Job Cater.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Cater of Cleveland, Ohio, and the Rev. Joe H. Cater of Decatur; four daughters, Ruth Lee Huntington of New York, Dr. Joyce Irons of Atlanta, Bernice Ayers of Decatur and Bobbie Small of Jamaica, N.Y.; one brother, Marvin Garth of Decatur; one sister, Daisy Osborne of Hartselle; 20 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Euna Hancock Chatham
90, homemaker

Funeral for Euna Hancock Chatham, 90, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Manly officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Chatham died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 30, 1909, in Cullman to Lovett and Fronie Woodley Hancock. She was a homemaker and a member of Southwest Baptist Church. She was the widow of Dewey Irving Chatham.

She is survived by one son, Larry Chatham of Hartselle; three daughters, Myra Carden of Gardendale, Doris Cavnar of Decatur and Janice Brackin of Decatur; one brother, J.A. "Buster" Hancock of Cullman; two sisters, Irene Swanson of Gardendale and Lila Trimble of Brewton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Cavnar, Phil Cavnar, Michael Cavnar, Mark Chatham, Daniel Brackin and Marlin Hood.

Gladys Obera Cooper
76, homemaker

ADDISON -- Funeral for Gladys Obera Cooper, 76, of Addison will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Addison Church of God with the Rev. Robert Partridge and the Rev. Kip Box officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Nichols Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cooper died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 30, 1923, in Alabama to Malley and Lucy Dover Cleghorn. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Lincoln Walter Cooper; two sons, Owen Cooper of Cullman and Dwain Cooper of Madison; five daughters, Annette Ragland of Madison, Janice Burleson and Rita Sutherland, both of Addison, Phillis Cobb of Smyrna, Ga., and Melissa Farmer of Logan; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Odell Duncan
91, Goodyear supervisor

Funeral for Odell Duncan, 91, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hoover officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Duncan died today, March 29, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Decatur. He was born Sept. 1, 1908, in Tallassee to Liash Bryant Duncan and Belle Newman Duncan. He was a member of 16th Avenue Baptist Church and a supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 39½ years. He was the father of the late Jewell Duncan Matthews.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Duncan; one son, Jim Duncan of Huntsville; one daughter, Pat Duncan Wall of Miami; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Deacons of 16th Avenue Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to 16th Avenue Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.

Andy May

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Andy May, 34, of Decatur will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Fanning and the Rev. Jerry DeBell officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Mr. May died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1965, in Morgan County to Jackson Harold and Mary Lou Dake May. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and an assembly line worker at Terrell Industries.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Jackson and Vernie May of Hartselle; his foster mother, Mary Kellam of Decatur; one brother, Don May of Hartselle; one stepbrother, Mike Maze of Hartselle; two foster brothers, Richard Eudy and Bobby Dotson, both of Decatur; three sisters, Diane Brown, Martha Brassart and Melba Thomas, all of Hartselle; and one stepsister, Shirley Boyer of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Tom Jones, Shane Luter, Chris Brown, Benny Foster , Richard Eudy, Bobby Dotson, Cleo Higdon and Ron Moreno.

Memorials may be made to the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

Larry T. 'Big Mac' McDaniel

Funeral for Larry T. "Big Mac" McDaniel, 45, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Newcomb Street Church of Christ with Douglas Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery in Oakville with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. McDaniel died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1955, in Oakville to George and Tommie Lee Whitson McDaniel. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he worked at Wolverine Tube for 22 years and was a member of Moulton Heights Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Diane McDaniel; four sons, Larry McDaniel Jr., Christopher McDaniel, Calvin Powers and Terrence Powers, all of Decatur; two daughters, Shamekia McDaniel of Decatur and Nicole Bolden of Hillsboro; one stepdaughter, Evette Shirley of Haleyville; three brothers, George McDaniel, Alfred McDaniel and Ronnie McDaniel, all of Oakville; three sisters, Ester McAffee of Sheffield, Jewelene Taylor of Oakville and Imogene Mosley of Hillsboro; and three grandchildren.

Nephews and members of Moulton Heights Church of Christ will be pallbearers.

Geneva Raby
82, retired farmer

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Geneva Raby, 82, of Toney will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Posey Maples and the Rev. Brian Hall officiating.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Raby died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. She was born July 24, 1917, to Emmit E. and Effie Renegar Hatchett. She was a retired farmer and a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was the widow of J.B. Raby.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy Raby Sr. of Toney and Johnny Raby of Mount Hope; one brother, Edsel Hatchett of Braselton, Ga.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Raby Jr., Shannon Horton, Jeremy Bailey, Dennis Hatchett, Landy Hatchett and Ronnie Hatchett.

Ima Ilene Smith

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ima Ilene Smith, 70, of Falkville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Powell's Chapel Church with the Rev. Doug Smith and the Rev. Bill Partridge officiating.

Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, March 27, 2000, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. She was born June 18, 1929, in Morgan County to George Buel and Eloise M. Singleton Kilpatrick. She was a member of Falkville Church of Christ and worked for 25 years as an Avon representative. She was the widow of Chester C. Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Doug Smith and Larry Smith, both of Falkville; one daughter, Yvonne Quattlebaum, of Hartselle; one brother, John D. Kilpatrick of Hartselle; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Brownie Terry
83, Courtland retiree

TRINITY -- Funeral for Brownie Terry, 83, of Hillsboro will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1916, in Lawrence County to Jhonnie and Francis Terry. He was retired from the town of Courtland and was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church. He was the father of the late Marie Terry Sawyer.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Terry; three sons, Billy Ray Terry of Cullman, Jackie Terry of Decatur and Larry Gene Terry of Trinity; one daughter, Patsy Terry of Hillsboro; one brother, Willie Lee Terry of Courtland; one sister, Gladys Borden of Moulton; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ora Lee Wooldridge

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ora Lee Wooldridge, 72, of Athens was to be today at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Dan Binkley and Ross Melvin officiating.

Burial was to be in Pleasant Point Cemetery.

Mrs. Wooldridge died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Marion Street Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Jimmy Dale Beck.

She is survived by five brothers, Alton Wooldridge of Florala, Dwight Wooldridge of Colorado Springs, Colo., Milton Wooldridge, Wayne Wooldridge and Thomas Wool- dridge, all of Athens; and four sisters, Kathryn Roberts, Lois Harvey, Linda Hill, all of Athens, and Clema Fay of Rogersville.
