William 'Paulie' Clifton
Funeral for William "Paulie" Clifton, 76, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Bush officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Clifton died at home Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to William Henry Clifton and Vadie Busby Clifton. He worked for E&W Upholstering for 38 years and retired from Bailey Upholstery. He was a World War II Navy veteran and brother of the late Carl Clifton.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Clifton; two daughters, Susan Lott and Patt Pannier, both of Decatur; one son, Dennis Clifton of Killen; four brothers, Charles Clifton of Nichols, Ga., Vernon Clifton of Decatur, William Clifton of Charleston, S.C., and Bobby Clifton of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Thelma Mast of Decatur and Martha Bradford of Kerman, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Clifton, Jack Rich, Clarence Worley, James Perry, John Vassar and Larry Chandler.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Leamon Harris

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Leamon Harris, 70, of Town Creek will be Friday at noon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek with the Rev. Elijah Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Wash Tilla Cemetery with Thompson & Son Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mr. Harris died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at his home. He was born June 17, 1931, in Lawrence County to Louie Harris Sr. and Mary Alice Fitzgerald Harris. He retired as a laborer from the former Champion Paper Co., now International Paper Co. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Carol Harris; three sons, Leamon Donell Harris, McKenzie Harris and Terrance Harris, all of Town Creek; one daughter, Latasha Harris of Town Creek; one brother, Percy Harris of Town Creek; and four sisters, Susie Perkins of St. Paul, Minn., Mary Harris of Muscle Shoals, Hattie Sanders of Town Creek and Ruby Torain of Decatur.

Audrey Mae Hasting

ATHENS -- Funeral for Audrey Mae Hasting, 93, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bud White officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Hasting died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Feb. 28, 1908, in Limestone County to Columbus Street and Katie Castell Street. She was the widow of W.D. "Bill" Hasting, mother of the late Billy Eugene Hasting and grandmother of the late Billy D. Hasting. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Christine Cobb of Athens; one brother, Cairl Street of Columbia, Tenn.; one sister, Mable Street of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Stanley Cobb, David Cobb, Donald Cobb, Larry Hasting, Gary Hasting and Terry Hasting.

Martha Ann Haynes Brown Roper

TRINITY -- Funeral for Martha Ann Haynes Brown Roper, 83, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Norris and the Rev. Shirley Norris officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roper died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 15. 1918, in Jackson County, to Markus Haynes and Lector Stone Haynes. She was a homemaker and the widow of her first husband, Robert E. Brown.

Survivors include her husband, L.B. Roper; one son, Mitchell L. Brown of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Clarene Brown Bradshaw of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Loretta Brown Atkins and Barbara Brown Earls, both of Hartselle; three stepsons, Roy "Buddy" Roper of Decatur, Gene Roper of Hartselle and Donnie Roper of Milton, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Hagood and Shirley Crisp, both of Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and 25 step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Morton, Robert Bradshaw, Bobby Swindle, Bobby Brown, Dr. Shane Pitts, Jimmie Sellers, E.J. Goodwin and Noah Earls.

Jimmy Barber
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jimmy Barber, 54, of Falkville will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Roundtop Church with the Rev. Larry Carter officiating.

Burial, with Masonic graveside service, will be in Roundtop Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Barber died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1947, in Morgan County to Jack Barber and Emma Lou McNutt Robinson Dunn. He was a member of Roundtop Church and a member of the Falkville Masonic Lodge for 14 years. He was a member of the Huntsville Shriners Temple. He was stepson of the late James H. "Buck" Robinson. He was a pipefitter and a member of Local No. 760 Pipefitters Union of Huntsville.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Saint Barber; one son, James Barber of Alabaster; his mother of Falkville; his stepfather, Ottis Dunn of Falkville; and two sisters, Martha Humphrey of Hartselle and Kay Saint of Falkville

Pallbearers will be members of the Falkville Masonic Lodge.

Layten S. Bass Sr.

SAN ANTONIO -- Graveside military service for Layten S. Bass Sr., 78, of San Antonio, formerly of Hillsboro, was this morning at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Sunset Northwest Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bass died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in San Antonio. He was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Lawrence County to O.W. Bass and Alice Sims Bass. He retired as a major and pilot in the Air Force after 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Opal D. Bass; one son, Layten S. Bass Jr. of San Antonio; two daughters, Karen Lenaburg of Austin, Texas, and Barbara Mikulenka of Kingsbury, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Beulah E. Boggus

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Beulah E. Boggus, 95, of Town Creek will be Saturday at noon at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Sparks officiating.

Burial will be in Boggus Cemetery with Thompson & Son Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Boggus died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Centerville Health Care Center in Tennessee. She was born Sept. 1, 1906, in Town Creek to Wade Berry and Caroline Berry. She operated a store in Red Bank and was a member of Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church. She served with Order No. 528 of the Eastern Star. She raised two foster children. She was the widow of Porter "Sonny" Boggus, sister of the late Robert Berry, and stepsister of the late James Burt, Henry Burt, Willie Burt, Percy Burt and Lillie Burt Spangler. Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Lee Little of Town Creek; two foster sons; one stepbrother, Emmett Burt of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Jesse Lyndon Givens

TRINITY -- Funeral for Jesse Lyndon "Son" Givens, 78, of Courtland will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Scotty Letson, the Rev. Sam Wallace and Buddy Simmons officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home. His body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Givens died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Lawrence County to John Rufus Givens and Willie Key Givens. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former member of the Courtland City Council. He was a retired business owner and a member of Courtland Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was the widower of Helen Hill Givens.

Survivors include one son, Gary Lyndon of Courtland; one daughter, Genice Givens Ballew of Courtland; one brother, Charles Givens of Courtland; two sisters, Minnie Givens and Earline Youngblood, both of Courtland; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Blankenship, Randy Givens, Boyd Reding, Anthony Givens, Jerome Jaggers, Kenny Reding, Ambrey Reding, and Dan Simmons.

Pearl Elizabeth Griffith

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Pearl Elizabeth Griffith, 72, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Smothers, the Rev. Cecil Berry and the Rev. Wendell Callahan officiating.

Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Griffith died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born March 9, 1929, in Alabama to Esley Leander Champion and Lottie Elizabeth Berry Champion. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Fred Griffith; one son, Wayne Griffith of Hartselle; one daughter, Martine Griffith Bates of Hartselle; one brother, Hollis Ray Champion of Union, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

Brenda Kay Hitt

TRINITY -- Funeral for Brenda Kay Hitt, 47, of Decatur will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Straight Gospel Missionary Church with the Rev. Neal Blaxton officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church Saturday two hours before the service.

Mrs. Hitt died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born March 8, 1954, in Lawrence County, to William Speegle and Gladys Speegle. She was a machine operator.

Survivors include her husband, Harvey Hitt Jr.; four sons, Jimmy Shane Hitt of Decatur, and Lee Hitt, Joseph Hitt and Michael Hitt, all of Courtland; one daughter, Tonya Woodall of Danville; her mother, Gladys Speegle Borden of Moulton; four brothers, William Speegle, Jimmy Speegle, and Kenny Speegle, all of Moulton, and Ricky Speegle of Town Creek; two sisters, Betty Davis of Town Creek and Melinda Steele of Moulton; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Scott Coffey, Buddy Coffey, Stacy Coffey, Derek Speegle, Jace Speegle and Chip Wallace.

Laura Mae Jones

Funeral for Laura Mae Jones, 85, of Hartselle, will be Saturday at noon at Pennylane Church of Christ with Barry Brackins officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memorial Gardens with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jones died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at her home. She was born March 12, 1916, in Town Creek to Johnny and Laura White. She was a member of Pennylane Church of Christ. She was the widow of Albert Jones Sr.

Survivors include five sons, Albert Jones Jr., Norah Jones, Johnny Jones, Billy Jones and Charles Jones, all of Hartselle; seven daughters, Lizzie Taylor, Frances Hereford and Susie Orr, all of Hartselle, Mary Turney of Huntsville, Rosie Foster and Lila Malone, both of Decatur, and Annie White of Jefferson, Ind.; two brothers, Thomas White of Leighton and J.C. White of Twinsboro, Ohio; two sisters, Lila Pearl Heaves of Courtland and Mariah White of Akron, Ohio; 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mattie McDonald

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Mattie McDonald, 87, of Danville will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Coleman officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McDonald died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born May 4, 1914, in Morgan County to William Steve Ramsey and Sara Lynch Ramsey. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She was the widow of Dock McDonald and mother of the late Hal McDonald.

Survivors include three sons, James McDonald of Decatur, J.D. McDonald of Cullman and Billy Dock McDonald of Addison; four daughters, Arlin Edmondson of Danville, Linda Cooper of Decatur, Betty Cooper of Moulton and Lillie Jones of Sevierville, Tenn.; one sister, Ruthie Pearl Bradford of Calif.; 32 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Edmondson, Mark Cooper, Dennis McDonald, Mike Wiggins, Mickey Wiggins and Charles McDonald.

Katina Lynn Weeks

TRINITY -- Funeral for Katina Lynn Weeks, 29, of Hartselle, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Sherrill and Buddy Simmons officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawr- ence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sat- urday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Weeks died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born June 15, 1972, in Morgan County to Harvey Weeks and Brenda Brackin Weeks. She was a gasket assembler at Holm Industries.

Survivors include two daughters, Meagan Carol Weeks and Leeanna Faye Roden, both of Hartselle; her parents, of Decatur; one sister, Cyndie Sandlin of Hartselle; her grandparents, J.O. and Annie Ruth Weeks of Hillsboro and Alice Brackin of Courtland.

Pallbearers will be Josh Morris, Adam Brackin, Ryan Brackin, Roger Weeks, Glenn Weeks and Nick Wallace.
