Mrs. Bertie Mae Shelnutt

Mrs. Bertie Mae Shelnutt, 68, of Woodland, Ala. died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at the North East Alabama Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Shelnutt was a native of Troup County, Ga. and was born Oct. 3, 1931, the daughter of Hugh Andrews and Ila Gasaway Andrews. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ, and was preceeded in death by a son, Terry Lee Shelnutt.

A funeral was Monday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee, Ala. with the Rev. Wayne Spradlin officiating. Burial was in Shadow Lawn Cemetery in LaGrange, Ga.

Surviving are Mrs. Shelnutt's husband, Dewey Shelnutt of Woodland; daughters, Diane Shelnutt of Woodland and Cathy Davis of Roanoke, Ala.; sons, Larry Shelnutt of Newnan and Michael Shelnutt of Griffin, Ga.; brothers, H. T. Andrews of Perris, Calif., J. W. Andrews of LaGrange, Ga. and Danny Andrews of Bowdon, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nathaniel Lane Jr.

Mr. Nathaniel Lane Jr. of Mount Zion Road, Atlanta, died November 8, 1999 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale, Ga.

Mr. Lane is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel (Cindy White) Lane Sr. and grandson of Mrs. Ora Hall of Newnan.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Ardith Sessions Wilson

Mrs. Ardith Sessions Wilson, 71, of Floyd Road, Newnan, died Monday, November 8, 1999 at her residence.

Mrs. Wilson was born July 31, 1928 in Chambers County, Alabama. She was a retired nurse, having worked at Newnan Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chase Yates Wilson.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James Boone of Newnan; sons, Roy D. Wilson of Newnan and Scott Wilson of LaGrange, Ga.; grandsons, Eric Scott Wilson and Joshua Chase Wilson; brother, Gene Sessions of Rockford, Ala.

Mr. Waymon P. Hand

Mr. Waymon P. Hand, 72, of Emmett Young Road, Grantville, Ga., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 at Southwest Christian Hospice.

Mr. Hand ws born April 29, 1927 in Carrollton, Ga. He was retired from Coweta-Fayette EMC.

The family was receiving friends Wednesday evening and will again Thursday evening, Nov. 11, from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be Friday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at Sunnyside Baptist Church. The Rev. F. D. McWhorter and the Rev. Bill Dean will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Hand of Grantville, daughters, Terry Andrews of Newnan, Tommy and Melinda Garland of Newnan and Robyn Hand of Tucker, Ga.; sisters, Vidara Parrish of Carrollton, Ga., Patsy Ann Upchurch of Bowden, Ga.; grandchildren, Jeff Dingler, Julie Dingler, Tori Freeman and Heather Garland of Newnan, Melanie Moore of Fairbanks, AK, Amber Scott of Newnan; great-grandchild, Brianna Dingler; step great-grandchildren, Luke Smallwood and Kayla Moore.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Christian Hospice on Lester Road in Union City.

Miss Janice Patricia Mitchell

Miss Janice Patricia Mitchell of Bolder Park, Atlanta, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at Southwest Hospital.

Miss Mitchell was born July 15, 1945 to Mrs. Mattie Mitchell and the late Rev. Sam Mitchell. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Atlanta.

A funeral will be Thursday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel, 168 Greenville St., Newnan with the Rev. Felton James as eulogist, assisted by Pastor David Rosser. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Newnan. Serving as pallbearers will be friends and cousins. The courtege will assemble at 18 Highland Park Drive at 1 p.m.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mattie Pearl Mitchell; sons, Jerry Lee Mitchell, Lewis Milton Mitchell; sisters, Mrs. Mattie L. Rosser, Mrs. Ruby Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Ethel) Askew; brothers, James, Leon, Carlton, Willie Cee and David Mitchell; a close friend, Ronnie Brown; a special friend Marcus Holley; 8 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Rev. Melvin Matthew Brantley

A memorial service for Rev. Melvin Matthew Brantley will be held Sunday, Nov. 14 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 117 Elzie Johnson Road in Newnan.

Pastor Dana Graham will officiate, and the body will lie in state from 4-6 p.m. This time has been set aside for the family and friends to show their expressions of love.

A funeral will be Monday, Nov. 15 at noon at Mt. Patmos Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga. The Rev. Raleigh Rucker will be eulogist.

Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Decatur, Ga.

Mr. Nathaniel Lane Jr., 20, of Atlanta died Nov. 8, 1999 at the Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale.

Mr. Lane was born Jan. 23, 1979 in Fulton County. A graduate of South Atlanta High School in 1997, he attended Atlanta Area Technical School and was employed by its security in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Inspirational Church of Hope in Atlanta. Elder Raymond Patillo will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Doe, the Rev. Sherman Williams, the Rev. Andrews and the Rev. Scandrick. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Newnan. Pallbearers will be Edward Daniels, Stantario Hampton, Alvin White, Harry Render, Barry Lee and Harry Lee.

Surviving are parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel (Cindy) Lane Sr.; brothers, Nigeria Butler of Ventura, California, John Hawkins of Eufaula, Alabama, Nathan D. Mr. James Roy "Mac" McAfee, 58, of Kiawah Ct., Newnan, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. McAfee was born April 27, 1941 in Rome, Ga. to Roy Henry and Catherine Johnston McAfee. He worked in sales of material handling equipment and was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Forest Park, Ga.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Burcher officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Randy Jones, Clifford Jones, Christopher Jones, Jason Manley, Greg Quigley and Christopher Glaze.

Surviving are his wife, Annette McAfee of Newnan; mother, Shirley McAfee of Cave Spring, Ga.; daughters, Cari Lea McAfee, Marietta and Tracy Elizabeth McAfee of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Ryan Fulgham of Newnan, Matthew Fulgham of Newnan and Marissa Mann of Marietta; sister, Catherine Lowery of Cave Spring, Ga.; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Donald H. Duncan, 77, of Osyka, Mississippi, died October 12, 1999 at Southwest Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Duncan was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Palmetto, Ga. He was the son of Penn Duncan and Edith Boynton Duncan. He was retired and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in World War II.

Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald Duncan; five brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services were held Oct. 15 at the German Cemetery in Osyka, Miss. with the Rev. Robert Dorr officiating.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Sassone Duncan of Osyka, Mississippi; son, Gary and Lynne Duncan of Scranton, Penn.; granddaughters, Annie and Claire Duncan of Scranton, Penn.; brother, Roy H. Duncan of Palmetto, Ga.; sisters, Dollie Rainwater, Mary Shaw and Sarah Jacobs, all of Fairburn, Ga.

Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, Miss. was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Richard Coleman Rhodes died Nov. 5, 1999 at his residence on Spanish Tr., Eastpoint, Ga.

Private memorial services were held Nov. 9 with cremation following.

Mrs. Helen Dewberry, 75, of Poplar Road in Newnan died Nov. 12, 1999 at her residence.

Born Jan. 22, 1924 to William Arnall Jackson and Opal Jennie Broome, Mrs. Dewberry was a homemaker and a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church.

A funeral will be Monday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel with Minister Mansel Carpenter and Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandson and great-grandsons.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Dewberry of Newnan; children, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby (Jacqueline) Cochran, Miss Peggy Dewberry, Mr. and Mrs. Kenny (Patti) Dewberry, Mr. and Mrs. Wes (Tammy) Byce, all of Newnan; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. W. L. "Tommy" Thompson

Mr. Willard L. "Tommy" Thompson, 74, of Newnan, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was born July 17, 1925 in Bibb County, Alabama.

He was a United States Navy veteran.

Mr. Thompson moved to Newnan in the mid-1950s to work as a typesetter for The Newnan Times-Herald.

He was employed at the newspaper for about 43 years.

A graveside funeral service will be held today (Nov. 14) at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The Rev. Melvin Payne and the Rev. Winston Skinner will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Thompson of Newnan; daughter, Judy Jones of Mobile, Ala.; sons, Randy Thompson of Newnan, Ronnie Thompson of Hahira; sister, Gray Froman; and grandchildren, James P. Jones Jr., David L. Thompson of Hahira, Kristina Thompson of Savannah, Jamie Tomas' of Mobile.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Marilyn R. Loomis

Mrs. Marilyn R. Loomis, 83, of Meredith, New Hampshire and formerly of Watertown, Conn., died Oct. 10, 1999 at her home after losing a battle to cancer.

Mrs. Loomis was born Jan. 15, 1916 in Watertown, Conn., the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Gillette) Ranslow. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1934 and was a member of the Watertown Methodist Church.

She was employed as a dental assistant at Dr. Herman Margraff, DDS in Watertown for more than 10 years. She was a Watertown resident for 52 years before moving to New Hampshire.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Clifford Loomis; son, Kent R. Loomis of Lexington, Mass.; daughter, Mrs. Michael (Lynn) Edwards of Sharpsburg, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clifford N. Loomis II.

A memorial service was held Oct. 16 in Manchester, NH. Another memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110.

Cremation Society of New Hampshire Chapel, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bessie Robinson

Mrs. Bessie Robinson died at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willie J. Smith, better known as "Bo" Smith, at 4 Westgate Park Drive in Newnan.

Mr. William Jeter

Mr. William Jeter, 92, of the Alvista Care Home in Greenville, Ga., died Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

A lifelong resident of Meriwether County, Mr. Jeter was born April 17, 1907, son of the late Buren and Fanny Hamby Jeter. He was a Methodist.

A funeral was Friday afternoon, Nov. 12, at the graveside in Greenville Cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Porter officiating.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Lily Peace Johnson

Mrs. Lily Peace Johnson, formerly of Arden, N.C., died Sunday, November 14, 1999 at the home of her son in Newnan.

A native of Buncombe County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Ted and Leona Lanning Peace and wife of the late Stewart Johnson who died in 1985.

She was a charter member of Arden First Baptist Church and retired from the J. C. Penny Co. in 1975.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, N.C. with the Rev. P. Ollis Revels officiating. Burial will be in Shepherd Memorial Park.

Surviving are son, Ed. S. Johnson and his wife Jacqueline of Newnan; sister, Mary Snodgrass of Port Charlotte, Florida; brother, Ted Peace of Morristown, Tenn. and three grandchildren, Todd and Toby Johnson both of Asheville and Erica Ewing of Newnan.

Mrs. Bessie Robinson, 90, of Newnan, died November 13, 1999 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Robinson was born September 7, 1907 in Lanett, Alabama. She married Willie Joe Smith, who preceded her in death.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Alexander as eulogist, assisted by Evangelist Inez Moreland. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Surviving are step-sons, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Joe Smith (Jeanette) and Mr. C. L. Smith of Newnan; devoted friend, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Allen (Brennie) of Newnan; brothers-in-law, the Rev.
