Erma "Jean" Blackwell
Erma "Jean" (Pettit) Blackwell, 75, of 6468W, Roy Dr., Claypool, IN, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 at Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital. She was born June 21, 1927 at Huntington County to John and Cleo (Hale) Voris Conley. She married David H. Pettit June 16, 1945 and he died Oct. 4, 1974. She then married Thomas L. Blackwell in 1976; he died March 27, 1997.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Warsaw. She served as Past Matron of Eastern Star, Wabash; she belonged to White Shrine and was past matron; she was a member of Ladies of the Moose, Warsaw; and of the Palms Club, Wabash. Her schooling was at Roann, IN.
She was employed at Jeans Noodles of Ft. Wayne, Colony Liquors of Ft. Wayne, and also worked at Richards Pettit Printing of Wabash.
Survivors include two sons - Greg (Gabi) Pettit of North Manchester and Jeff (Kathy) Pettit of Garrett, IN; a daughter, Janice Gressley of Warsaw; a brother, Glen (Berdina) Voris of Laketon, IN; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A grandchild and a sister preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be held at a later date. McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash, IN is handling arrangements.

Fannie Burke
Fannie Burke, 73, of 301 N. Wayne St., North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born Dec. 10, 1928 at Prestonsburg, KY to Amos and Dollie (Marshall) Dotson, both deceased.
She was a homemaker, married to John F. Burke on Sept. 11, 1945; he died Nov. 24, 1988. She was a member of Claypool Full Gospel Tabernacle.
She is survived by a son, John B. Burke of North Manchester; a daughter, Carlene Burke, North Manchester; a brother, Rev. Ralph Dotson of Silver Lake, and a sister Mrs. Henry (Lenora) Green of St. Augustine, FL.; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service was held Tuesday morning, Nov. 12, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel with Rev. Ralph Dotson officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20852.

Paul S. Edgecomb
Paul S. Edgecomb, 85, of 1401 Clear Creek Trail, North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 9,. 2002 at his residence. He was born June 13, 1917 at Pratt County, KS to John and Mary (Barnhart) Edgecomb, both deceased. He married Oella H. Barton Sept. 29, 1940, and she survives.
He was a retired farmer and custodian at Baldwin (KS) High School from 1972-1985 and at First Baptist Church at Ottawa, KS for five years. Following retirement he worked at Frantz Lumber Co. and Ace Hardware, both at North Manchester, IN.
In addition to his wife, Oella, he is survived by sons Jim Edgecomb of Ottawa, KS, Steve (Lynette) Edgecomb of West Alexandria, OH, and Ron (Kimra) Edgecomb of North Manchester; daughters Mrs. Lelland (Donna) Davison of Garnett, KS, and Mrs. Ray (Marge) Brubaker of North Manchester; a brother, Raymond Edgecomb of Monterey, CA; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were six brothers, five sisters, and a daughter, Mary Pauline Edgecomb in 1943.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Old German Baptist Church of North Manchester. Home Brethren will officiate and burial will be in the Old German Baptist Cemetery of North Manchester.

Leora Neeley
Leora Neeley, 93, of 1831W 1200S, Silver Lake, IN died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Citizens Hospital, Barberton, OH. She was born Dec. 23, 1908 at Magoffin County, KY to James and Polly (Wadkins) Shepherd. She married Clarence Neeley on April 8, 1925; he died Jan. 24, 1996.
She was a homemaker, and farmer. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dayton (Eloise) Neeley of Norton, OH; daughter Mrs. Clayton (Elsie) Howard of Silver Lake, IN; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A son, a brother and five sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandson preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Rev. Etsie Allen officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.

George Parker Berg
George Parker Berg, 93, of 433 N. Wabash St., Wabash, IN, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at Millers Merry Manor West, Wabash. He was born Jan. 10, 1909 at Ironton, OH to George J. and Clara (Parker) Berg. He married Virginia Plank in Wabash, IN on Oct. 8, 1937; she died Feb. 22, 1990.
He received a BS degree in Chemistry from Ohio State University in 1930, and worked as a chemist for General Tire 35 and a half years, retiring in 1974. He was named 1997 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the Wabash First United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees. He was a member of the chancel choir of he church since 1938. He was a longtime volunteer of the Meshingomeshia Boy Scout Council and was instrumental in planning the annual Lincoln Pilgrimage in Wabash for more than 50 years. He received the Boy Scouts of America's Silver Beaver award, the highest honor a lay person can receive from the organization. He also served as secretary of the Wabash Evening Exchange Club for several years.
He was active in the Wabash Valley Music Association, AARP, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Berg also enjoyed helping fourth graders at W.C. Mills Elementary School with reading and math. He lived in Wabash since 1938, coming from Ironton where he lived from 1909-1938.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ann Berg of Wabash, and a son George Thomas Berg of Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Lintner of Ironton, OH; two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. James MacDonald officiating. Burial took place in the Falls Cemetery.

Harriet H. Story
Harriet H. Story, 86, formerly of 1059W 400S, Wabash, IN, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 at Millers Merry Manor West, Wabash. She was born June 3, 1916 at Chicago, IL to Frederick and Leana (Teuteburg) Symons.
She married Donald M. Story in Chicago, IL on April 21, 1946. He died May 13, 1988. She was a homemaker and a past member of the Wabash Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Wabash Friends Church.
Survivors include two sons - Delbert (Marisa) Story of Raleigh, NC and James W. (Brenda) Story, Sr. of Wabash, IN; two daughters - Myrna Lee Mann of Palm Springs, CA and Judith White of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A grandchild, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Graveside funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, IN, where burial followed. Rev. David Phillips officiated. Preferred memorials are to Wabash Friends Church. The memorial guest book for Harriet can be signed on-line at grandstaff-hengen.com.

Mildred Grace Mills
Mildred Grace Mills, 90, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 25, 1912 at Rainsville, IN to Henry and Fannie McCain. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons David Mills of North Manchester and Jon Mills of Mesa, AZ; daughters Virginia Thorington or Rochester, IN, and Mrs. Larry (Debbie) Pugsley of Brooklyn Park, MN. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Robert Mills and daughter, Maribeth Rennsler preceded her in death.
There are no services planned, but burial will be in Rainsville Cemetery, Rainsville, IN. DeLaughter-McKee North Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mary L. Beery
Mary L. Beery, 91, of 200 E. Monument St., Pleasant Hill, OH, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, OH. She was born July 23, 1911 at Delta, OH to D. G. and Effie (Kintner) Berkebile. She married Beecher Beery April 21, 1935 in Miami County.
Mary was a 1931 graduate of Manchester College, and taught school for the Bradford School System in the early 1930's. She retired, along with her husband and Beecher's brother Ray from the Beery School of Horsemanship which they had owned and operated for many years in Pleasant Hill, OH.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren (OH) where she served the church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was the director of the church's children's department for more than 20 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy Beery of Pleasant Hill, OH; sons and daughters-in-law Dean Beery of Huntington, IN, Dwight and Helen Beery of North Manchester, and Richard and Pat Beery of Albuquerque, NM; sisters Mrs. Fred (Lois) Roop of North Manchester, and Mrs. Herman (Sara Louise) Conine of Holland, MI; grandchildren Lynn Shaum, Stephanie, Beth, David, and Janeen Beery, and Kylee Dawn Morton; great grandchildren Elliot Shaum, Anthony Beery, Shay Morton, Drew Wilson, Skyler Wilson, and Brandon Morton. She was preceded in death by three brothers - Clair, Dale, and Paul Berkebile; a grandson, Jim Beery and daughter-in-law, Susan Beery.
Friends were received Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Jackson Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, OH. Funeral was held Wednesday morning, 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Nick Beam officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Pleasant Hill, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Beecher and Mary Beery Scholarship fund for Manchester College in North Manchester, IN, or Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. Condolences may also be expressed through www.jacksonfuneralhomes.com.

Jarie L. MacDonald
Jarie L. MacDonald, 80, of 3106E 1450N, North Manchester, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at her residence. She was born April 176, 1922 at Prestonsburg, KY to Amos and Ann (Reffitt) Marsillette. She was a homemaker, married to Major H. MacDonald on March 7, 1945; he died Aug. 15, 1999. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester.
Survivors include a son Richard J. of North Manchester; sisters Essie Poe of Silver Lake, Martha Miller and Mrs. Turner (Anna) Bays and Mrs. Harley (Nancy) Hile, all of Warsaw, and Sally Shepherd of Claypool; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Thomas L. MacDonald, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, with Rev. Jim MacDonald officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Harold R. Damron
Harold Robert Damron, 35, of 11533 Signet Lane, Indianapolis, IN, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Nov. 6, 1966 at Wabash, IN to Earl Dean (Paula) Damron of Rochester and Mary Ann (Hoover) Baker of North Manchester.
He was employed as a home health care organizer in home based rehab in Indianapolis.
He married Jill Eisenman in November 1988; she died August 7, 1997. He was a member of Servia United Church of Christ, Servia, IN.
Survivors include a special friend, Kelly Howell of Indianapolis; daughter Courtney Reneé Damron, at home; brothers Eric (Lori) Damron of Rochester, IN, and Christopher (Melissa) Damron of North Manchester; sisters Mrs. Keith (Elizabeth) Starkweather and Candy Ashban both of North Manchester; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Hoover of North Manchester and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Rachel) Damron of Rochester.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2002, at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Pastor Glenn Sprunger officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Courtney Damron Memorial Fund, c/o DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114W, North Manchester, IN 46962.
