Colleen R. Hawkins
1902-1999
MARCELINE, Mo. -- Colleen Ruth (McDowell) Hawkins, 96, Marceline, formerly of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a health-care center in Marceline.
Born in Gower, Mo., on July 11, 1902, Mrs. Hawkins had lived in Gower and St. Joseph. She had been a resident of Marceline since 1932.
She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, Marceline, where she had served as treasurer.
On Oct. 20, 1920, she married Leonard W. Hawkins in St. Joseph. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Hawkins also was preceded in death by a son, Carl L.; her parents, Earnest E. and Susie C. McDowell; two sisters, Thula J. Hooper and Nora A. Reynolds; and two brothers, Prince C. McDowell and an infant.
Surviving: a son, Howard L., Mission, Kan.; a sister, Hallie M. Hall, St. Joseph; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Bentley-Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline. Burial: Park Lawn Memorial Gardens, Brookfield, Mo. Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the funeral home. Ralph H. Jones
1910-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Ralph H. Jones, 88, Maryville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at a Maryville health-care center.
Born Dec. 17, 1910, in rural Maryville, Mr. Jones, a retired farmer, was a graduate of the Maryville High School. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Maryville.
On April 13, 1933, he married Gladys M. Horn in Maryville. She died in 1988.
Mr. Jones also was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Fannie; two brothers, Edwin and Irvin; and a grandchild.
Surviving: four sons, Alfred, Dick, Stanley and Rick, all of Maryville; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Burial: Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Maryville.

Elizabeth Kelly
1907-1999
EDINA, Mo. -- Elizabeth (Ralph) Mock Kelly, 92, Edina, formerly of New Hampton, Mo., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Kirksville, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Kelly, a homemaker, also had taught at rural schools in Lone Star, Mo., and the Bulla School at Albany, Mo., until retiring.
Born in Savannah, Mo., on Feb. 11, 1907, she had lived in New Hampton for 50 years and moved to Edina in 1980.
Mrs. Kelly was a member of the New Hampton United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, and was active in United Methodist Women and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a worthy matron; Chapter DI of the P.E.O. Sisterhood; and Edina United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 22, 1928, she married Cleo D. Mock in Savannah. He died in 1973. Then on Jan. 28, 1979, she married Ray R. Kelly. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Kelly also was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Amy Ralph; and two sisters, Georgia Ralph and Mary Hartley.
Surviving: two daughters, Margaret Mackey, Edina, and Mary E. Grun, Kansas City; a son, Ben Mock, Athens, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, New Hampton. Burial: Foster Cemetery, New Hampton. Visitation: after 3 p.m. today, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo., and family visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the church. Arthur W. Kunzelmann
1910-1999
Arthur W. ''Artie'' Kunzelmann, 88, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Kunzelmann and his wife, Thelma, had been the owner and operator of the Kunzelmann Bakery on St. Joseph Avenue for several years until it was closed in 1954. He also had worked for Green Hills Stores in St. Joseph until retiring in 1972.
Born in St. Joseph on April 4, 1910, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School.
On Jan. 10, 1931, he married Thelma B. Taylor in St. Joseph. She died in 1993.
Mr. Kunzelmann also was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maggie; and two brothers, Oscar and Harold.
Surviving: two daughters, Arlene McCammon, Macon, Mo., and Laura Springs, St. Joseph; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 tonight. Memorials may be made to the donors choice.

E. Elizabeth Oliver
1918-1999
E. Elizabeth (Turner) Oliver, 80, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Oliver had been a teacher in Burlington Junction and Maryville, Mo.; Beaman, Iowa; and Madison, Wis. She retired from the St. Joseph School District, where she had taught first grade at South Park and Parkway Elementary Schools.
Born in Barnard, Mo., on Oct. 29, 1918, she was reared near there and had lived in Kansas City for seven years; Warrensburg, Mo., for seven years and St. Joseph since 1959.
She was a graduate of the Horace Mann High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State University, both of Maryville.
Mrs. Oliver was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, St. Joseph, where she was active in church committees, United Methodist Women, Sew and So's; and was a former teacher for the Mother's Day Out Program. She also was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Association of Childhood Education and St. Joseph Retired Teachers Association.
On June 11, 1941, she married Carl L. Oliver in Barnard. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde J. and Elizabeth J. Turner; and a sister, Mary M. Stalling.
Additional survivors: a son, John C., St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Mary B. Valencia, St. Joseph; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Ashland United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Burial: Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight, at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Ashland United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Herbert C. Overfield Jr.
1926-1999
FALLS CITY, Neb. - Herbert C. ''Junior'' Overfield Jr., 73, Falls City, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a health-care center in Falls City.
Mr. Overfield began working at Kinsey's Hardware in Falls City in 1943. He purchased the business with Gary Wilson in 1972 and operated it as G & H Hardware until selling it in 1990.
Born in Hiawatha, Kan., on Jan. 13, 1926, he was a graduate of the Salem, Neb., high school and served in the Navy from 1946 to 1944. He had lived in Brown and Richardson Counties, Kan., all of his life, and had been a resident of a health-care center in Falls City since 1992.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1765, American Legion Post No. 102 and Elks Lodge No. 963, all of Falls City; and Woodmen of the World.
On Feb. 5, 1950, he married Patricia A. Trull in Reserve, Kan. She survives of Falls City.
Mr. Overfield was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert C. Sr. and Wilma F.; a brother, Jean; and a sister, Pat Sickel.
Additional survivors: a son, Gary, Fremont, Neb.; a daughter, Anita Kreifels, Grand Island, Neb.; a brother, Don, Humboldt, Neb.; two half brothers, John Burget, Auxvasse, Mo., and Lloyd Burget, Verdon, Neb.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Clark Funeral Home, Falls City. Burial: Steele Cemetery, Falls City.

Leroy Sacquat
1921-1999
HORTON, Kan. - Leroy "Pug Bear" Sacquat, 77, Horton, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a Topeka, Kan., hospital.
Born June 8, 1921, on the Kickapoo Reservation, west of Horton, Mr. Sacquat had been employed as a mechanic. He was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Be-K-Ket-TAA-Be-N and Mne-Sno-Kwe; and four sisters, Nii-Be-No-Kwe, Be-N-NAA-Si-Kwe, Kaa-Kii-O-Thee-Kwe and Mki-Sii-Kwe.
Surviving: numerous nieces and nephews.
Drum service: 4 p.m. Saturday, Old Kickapoo Community Building, west of Horton. Burial: 8 a.m. Sunday, Anderson Cemetery, west of Horton, on the Kickapoo Reservation. Visitation: today and Saturday until 3 p.m., at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton.

Wayne H. Shackelford
1905-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Wayne H. Shackelford, 93, Maryville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at a Maryville health-care center.
Mr. Shackelford retired as an electrician for Woodruff's Fuel and Heating of Maryville.
Born Oct. 10, 1905, in Baileyville, Kan., he was a graduate of the Burlington Junction, Mo., high school and attended Northwest Missouri Teachers College in Maryville. Mr. Shackelford was a member of the Community Of Faith Church in Maryville.
On June 18, 1940, he married Zelma B. Munsey in Burlington Junction. She survives of the home.
Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Okalla M.; and a sister, Lea Fink.
Additional survivors: a son, Jack, Blockton, Iowa; a daughter Sharon Shackelford, Maryville; a brother, Junior, Bountiful, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lena M. Wisler
1919-1999
ELWOOD, Kan. - Lena Mae (Morris) Wisler, 79, Elwood, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Wisler had been employed by the former Noma Lites in St. Joseph and Wiedmaier Truck Stop of Elwood.
Born in Sparks, Kan., on April 28, 1919, she was a lifelong resident of Doniphan County, Kan. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Troy, Kan.
On Oct. 15, 1936, she married Robert A. Wisler Sr. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Wisler was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Laura Morris; and two brothers, George and W.O. Morris.
Additional survivors: a son, Robert A. Jr., Wathena, Kan.; a daughter, Sharon K. Embrey, St. Joseph; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after 2 p.m. today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight.

Arlo E. Anderson
1920-1999
Arlo E. Anderson, 78, St. Joseph, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Anderson began his career with Haw Hardware in Ottumwa, Iowa, and later with Kurtz Hardware, Des Moines, Iowa. He then worked for the former Wyeth Co., St. Joseph, from 1969 to 1986 as vice president of sales and retired from the Wyeth Co., in Houston, Texas, in 1987. He also served as a Naval Aviator during World War II.
Born Aug. 7, 1920, in Muntersville, Iowa, he was a former resident of Ottumwa, Des Moines, and Houston.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hardware Golf Association, Pony Express Post No. 359, American Legion, and a former member of the Elks and Eagles Lodges, all of St. Joseph.
On March 24, 1946, he married Beatrice R. Chidester in Ottumwa. She survives of the home.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred E. and Lena V.; and a sister, Juanita.
Surviving: two daughters, Thea E. Ide, St. Joseph, and Kristin L. Anderson, Chicago; a sister, Dorlene Oldt, Indianola, Iowa; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 9:30 a.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph. Burial: 3 p.m. Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Ottumwa. Mary L. Ball
1926-1999
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Mary Louise (Modeland) Ball, 72, Independence, formerly of Oneida, Kan., died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital because of an apparent heart attack.
Mrs. Ball was a registered nurse at Seneca, Hiawatha, and Sabetha, Kan., hospitals and the VA Hospital, Kansas City, until her retirement in 1975. She also served as a private duty nurse in the area.
Born Oct. 10, 1926, in Willis, Kan., she was a graduate of Willis High School. She later was a graduate of St. Anthony Murdock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Sabetha.
Mrs. Ball was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Independence; the Iris Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; and the Sweet Adeline Chorus at Seneca and Kansas City.
On Dec. 26, 1948, she married Lynval E. Ball in Horton, Kan. They lived on a farm west of Oneida, where she was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She also helped him with the Ball Grocery Store in Oneida. In 1966, they moved to Independence. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by a daughter, LaVonne Low; and her parents, Harvey E. and Hazel Modeland.
Additional survivors: three daughters, Lynn Bain, Effingham, Kan., Deanna Smith, Olathe, Kan., and Mary L. Courtney, Independence; two sons, Lynval II, Independence, Kirby, Prairie Village, Kan.; a brother, Owen Modeland, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca. Burial: Oneida Cemetery. Family visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, in care of the family.

Dean M. Foster
1942-1999
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dean M. Foster, 56, Arlington, formerly of Cameron, Mo., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at an Arlington hospital.
Mr. Foster was a controller for Sears for 26 years before becoming a regional manager for Whirlpool Appliance, both in Texas.
Born Oct. 13, 1942, in Lathrop, Mo., he was a graduate of Cameron High School.
Mr. Foster was a member of the First Christian Church, Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harley.
Surviving: his wife, Jan, of the home; two daughters, Sherrie L. Jones, Southern Pines, N.C., and Michelle D. Marion, Arlington; his mother, Marjorie, Cameron; a sister, Donna Warford, Pattonsburg, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens, Cameron. Family visitation: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
