Lillian Lowery

Lillian Louise Lowery, 81, of Vienna, Ill., formerly of Kennett, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.

Born July 7, 1921, in Trenton, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland and Clara Lee Simmons Lineberry.

She married Acy Lowery, Who preceded her in death on May 4, 1994. She was also preceded in death by one son, Carl William Lowery and one brother, Willie Lineberry.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Troutman and husband, Gene, of Vienna; six grandchildren, Tony Buchan and Amy Holoman, both of Vienna, Carlene Blizzard and Carl Lowery, both of Woodridge, Ill., Patrick Buchan, of New Burnside, Ill. and Tammy Willbanks, of Indianapolis, Ind. and seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell and Jeremy Blizzard, Melissa Willbanks, Jessica Buchan and Seth and Gabriel Holoman.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Friday, April 4, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Dr. James Cecil officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Rdige cemetery at Kennett.

Jimmie Russell

Bishop Jimmie Russell , 86, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Kennett.

Born Jan. 4, 1917, in Dancyville, Tenn., he worked for Sears and was a pastor for 42 years in Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Missouri.

On Nov. 25, 1937, in Birdsong, Ark., he married Carrie Vianna Lewis, who preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1994. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren and one sister, Flossie Hawkins.

Survivors include four sons, Jimmie Russell, Jr. and wife, Minnie, of St. Louis, Mo., Marshall Russell, of Seattle, Wash., Glenn Ray Russell, of Hayti Heights, Mo. and Carl Russell and wife, Melinda, of Kennett; three daughters, Carol J. Williams and Carmen L. Cummings and husband, Frank, all of Marshall, Mo. and Dorothy Russell, of Jefferson City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Hayti with Bishop Carl L. Russell and Jimmie Russell, Jr. officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were James Williams, Carl Luster, Raymond Holmes, Ronald Green, Johnny Spain and Michael Richmond.

Honorary pallbearers were Michael Avant, Ralph Harris, Johnny Gipson,and Marc, Vic and Stacey Russell.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Hermenia Cross

Hermenia Cross, 75, of Holcomb, Mo., died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born May 8, 1927, in Kennett, she was a daughter of the late Henry C. and Belva May Qualls Haggard.

On Dec. 24, 1943, she married Pete Cross, who survives of the home.

She is also survived by one daughter, Janet Vancil of Campbell, Mo.; one son-in-law, J.P. Vancil, of Campbell; one sister, Alberta Ewing of Heber Springs, Ark.; two grandchildren, Philip Vancil and wife, Lesley, and Daniel Vancil, all of Campbell; two great-grandchildren Clayton and Tracie Vancil and one step-great-grandchild Austin Hobbs. She was preceded in death by two brothers, L. and Harrison Haggard; and five sisters, Lorene Cannon, Margie Hall, Thelma Moore, Ima George and Juanita Lisenbee.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Allen Massey officiating.

Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.

Pallbearers were Bennie Cannon, H.E. George, Jeffrey Todd, Dennis Jackson, Bill Brigman and Ron Cross.

Ollie Hamlett

Ollie L. Hamlett, 88, of Kennett, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, April 6, at the McDanial Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett.

Mable Hatley

Mable L. Hatley, 88, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Pemiscot Nursing Home in Hayti.

Born Jan. 20, 1915 in Braggadocio, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Maggie Jane Hinchey and Homer Alex Corbin, Sr., she was employed at the Brown Shoe Company in Caruthersville and was of the Baptist faith.

In 1932 in Caruthersville, Mo., she married Bruce Hatley, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by two brothers, Bill Corbin, of Lambert, Miss. and Charles Corbin of Parsons, Tenn along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Patsy Young

Patsy Lou Noah Young, of Fortuna, Calif., died Thursday, March 27, 2003.

Born in Hornersville she was the daughter of the late Archie and Genevieve Young.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sue Ann Young.

She is survived by her four children, Steven Noah of Houston, Texas, Susan Mindus and husband, Jim, and Diane Cox and husband, Stephen, all of Eureka, Calif. and Lizette Hurst and husband, David, of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren, Jamie, Kristen, Greg, Gina, Stephen, Genevieve, Roshelle and Abigail; 11 great-grandchildren, Monique, Sara, Rylee, Noah, Morgan, Hunter, Felicity, Ariane, Megan, Garrett and Neveah.

The family will hold a memorial service during the first week of June in Hornersville. The family can be contacted in care of Susan Mindus, 6258 Pryor Street, Eureka, Calif, 95503.

Francis Blake

Francis Deloris Blake, 56, of Bernie, Mo., died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born July 31, 1946, in Gideon, Mo., daughter of the late Buddy and Drusilla Richardson Lacey, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

On April 28, 1975, in New Madrid, Mo., she married Melvin Junior "Buddy" Blake, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three daughters, Sherry Brunzel and Anita Thacker, both of Lawrenceburg, Ky. and Beth Sheehan, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one step-daughter, Lavonda Jo Brown, of Hayti, Mo.; one step-son, Ken Turner, of Malden, Mo.; three brothers, William Lacey, of Poplar Bluff, Roy Lacey, of Van Buren, Mo. and Harvey Lacey, of Gideon; two sisters, Jannette Byford and Vallarre Foster, both of Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Lacey and one sister, Ruthann Vandiver.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 8, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Pennington officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bernie cemetery.

Arkie Bogle

Arkie T. Bogle, 93, of Senath, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Arkansas Mehtodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Lovelace and Dwight Harrison officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Roy Cooper

Roy L. Cooper, 84, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Malden Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 7, 1918, in Malden, son of the late Hubert and Maggie Price Cooper, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII and was retired from General Motors. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Malden and served on the Malden Community Center Board.

On June 22, 1941, in Piggott, Ark., he married Madeline Heady, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2002. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Floyd, Lois, Clois, George and John Cooper and five sisters, Nola Legan, Irene Wiley, Essie Harrison, Rema Polen and Opal King.

Survivors include one brother, E.A. "Lefty" Cooper, of Malden; one sister, Laviece Koengeter, of Malden and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, April 8, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Jackson officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Park cemetery at Malden.

Thelma Davis

Thelma Mae Davis, 87, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Park Strathmoor Nursing Center in Rockford.

Born April 17, 1915, in Steele, Mo., daughter of the late William Harrison and Jane Cox LaRue, she was a school teacher and later owned and operated Chick's Grocery in Caruthersville. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Caruthersville.

On Dec. 1, 1936, in Caruthersville, she married Lewis Leo "Chick" Davis, who preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clyan and Elmer and a son-in-law, George "Buddy" Pool.

Survivors include one son, Lewis Davis and wife, Mary Ann, of Rockford; two daughters, Jane Pool and Harriet Rose and husband, William, all of Rockford; two sisters-in-law, Norma LaRue, of Steele and Ada LaRue, of San Jose, California; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at the Central Church of Christ in Caruthersville with Mike McDaniel officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were T.J. Davis, Steve Kramer, Truman LaRue, John Figgins, Don Abernathy and Hansel Morgan.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Hamlett

Ollie L. Hamlett, 88, of Kennett, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Born Jan. 11, 1915, in Hollywood, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Harve and Willie Cora Crossno Lacewell.

On Dec. 14, 1929, in Cardwell, Mo., she married O.T. Hamlett, who preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1969. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Vonnie John Lacewell; one half-brother, Bennie Edward Long and one sister, Gacie Mae Lacewell.

Survivors include one son, Junior Bearron Hamlett, of Kennett; three grandchildren, Darrell Lee Hamlett and wife, Julie, of Holcomb, Mo. and Dennis Wade Hamlett and wife, Vickie and Curtis Allan Hamlett and wife, Shirley, all of Kennett; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles James officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Dustin Hamlett, Richard Prince. Jr., Parish Rudkin, Jimmy Hill, Eddie Wyrick and Ronnie Wake.
