CAROLYN (HUNT) BROWN
Carolyn (Hunt) Brown, 85, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Blue Springs.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born June 12, 1918, in Wellsville, Kan.
She moved to Lee’s Summit with her parents, Seth and Elizabeth Hunt, and sisters when she was 6 years old.
She was a graduate of Stephens College and the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Her father, Seth E. Hunt, was a well-known resident and former mayor of Lee’s Summit.
She married Arthur Wagner, who was the father of her four children, in 1942.
Later in life, she married her second husband, the beloved Coach Roy Brown, and they resided in Lee’s Summit until his death in 1992.
Mrs. Brown was a gifted writer.
She taught high school English early in her working career, and substituted in the Lee’s Summit area elementary schools system at the end of her career.
In addition, she was a case worker for the social services department of San Diego County, Calif.
She was a member of Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Seth and Elizabeth Hunt; her sisters, Ruth Ritter and Maurine Hagan; and a son, Eric Arthur Wagner.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn Hunt, John Wagner and wife, Jenny Kroll, Irene Lopez and husband, Rob Chapman, and the widow of Carolyn’s son, Eric, Mary Beth Petersen, and her husband, Ben; grandchildren, Scott Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Steven Wagner, Jeffrey Wagner, Christopher Lopez, Nicole Lopez, Shaughnessy Wagner; and great-grandchildren, Colton, Shelby, Paige, Synota, Phoenix and Calliope.

GOLDIE MARIE CLEMMONS
Goldie Marie Clemmons, 86, of Blue Springs, passed away April 10, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, 205 S.W. 17th Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015; interment at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Pentecostal Church, 217 S.E. South Avenue, Blue Springs, MO 64015.
Goldie was born July 11, 1917, in Coffey, Mo., to Oscar and Etta Molly (Burns) Landis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; her husband, Gayle; and her daughter, Lee Etta.
Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Clemmons and wife, Chrysanne, Lee’s Summit, and George Clemmons and wife, Nancy, Blue Springs; sister, Althea Luther, Macon, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

KURT THOMAS McVEY
Kurt Thomas McVey, 15, of Lee’s Summit, went to be with Jesus on April 8, 2004.
Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at First Baptist Church of Raytown; burial in Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.
Kurt was born Dec. 17, 1988, and he spent the next 15 years bringing joy and humor to his family and friends.
He was an active member of FBC Raytown Youth Group, Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop 1 FBC, and a Warrior in Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
He attended Lee’s Summit North High School and played football and played in the marching band.
Kurt spent many happy hours with his dad and brother and other scouts camping, fishing and hunting in Missouri and Canada.
Kurt will be loved and missed forever by his parents, Dennis and Becky McVey; his brother and best friend, Robert; his grandparents, Lowell and Paula McVey, and Ken and Margaret Long; Uncle Brian and Aunt Gail Sprecher; Uncle David and Aunt Carol Hix; Uncle Pat Long; Aunt Pixie Prater; cousins, Jeff, Heidi, Jacob, Tricia, Marty, Tara, Emily, Kyle and Keegan; faithful companions, Cheyenne and Wilson; and his many friends.

BETHEL J. COOK
Bethel Juanita Cook passed away at her earthly house, while her loving family rejoiced as she entered her heavenly home, on her 81st birthday, April 4, 2004.
Bethel was born April 4, 1923, in Urbana, Mo., to Marvin Henry and Lottie Allana Darby.
She was an accomplished musician.
She began her lifetime ministry as a church pianist at the age of 12, and enjoyed sharing her music with her family and friends until her death.
As a source of encouragement for others, she used her talent to glorify her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Bethel married her childhood sweetheart and shared a commitment and love that grew throughout their marriage of 58 years.
Bethel was preceded in the resurrection by her husband, Paul J. Cook; and daughter, Judy Ann Wisemore.
She is survived by sons, Jerry (Karen) Cook, Jim (Donna) Cook, and John (Julie) Cook, all of Lee’s Summit; daughters, Joyce (Michael) Cunningham, Estero, Fla., Julie (Lee) Wilson, and Jean (Dwight) Tapley, both of Independence; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a forthcoming great-grandson; a brother, Boone (Sarah) Darby, Strafford, Mo.; and an audience of friends and family.
Funeral services were 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; burial is 10 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Valley Memorial Gardens, also in Grain Valley.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the professionals at Crossroads Hospice, “You are all awesome, God bless!”

Bethel’s piano may be silent but her music and love goes on in the hearts of everyone who enjoyed and loved her.

JAMES “SKIP” JOHNSON
James Allen “Skip” Johnson, 52, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Las Vegas, NV, passed away April 5, 2004.
He was born June 5, 1952.
Skip is survived by one son, Allen Johnson of Raytown; one sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Andy Holmes of Lee’s Summit; one brother, Wayne Johnson of Kansas City; and two nieces and nephew-in-law, Kelly Holmes, and Tim and Trisha Drape, all of Lee’s Summit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jean Johnson; and one brother, Robert Day.
Skip never knew a stranger, and greeted every conversation with zeal.
He loved the outdoors and animals.
During his years in Vegas, Skip worked as a craps dealer at various casinos, and performed clown diving as a hobby.
We will miss Skip’s endless knowledge of movie trivia and his easy smile.

VIOLET PEARL MCNULTY
Violet Pearl McNulty, 80, Sedalia, Mo., died April 1, 2004, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
Services were 10:30 a.m., April 5, at Providence Baptist Church; burial in Highland Sacred Gardens.

FRANK A. CARR
Frank A. Carr, 79, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, March 26, 2004.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City, Mo.; burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to services, at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church of Greenwood or Odyssey Hospice.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and was an Army veteran.
Frank was preceded in death by his son, Richard Carr; and twin daughters, Karen and Carol Carr.
He is survived by his wife, Velda Carr; sons, Mike Carr and wife, Gail, and Ron Carr; brother, Ted Carr; sisters, Mary Lou Horman and Patricia Hardy; mother, Maudie Carr; two grandchildren, Justin and Melissa; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Tyler, Preston, Samantha and Danielle.

BRIGITTE “BRIE” R. MARTIN
Brigitte “Brie” R. Martin, 42, of Lee’s Summit, passed away March 17, 2004, at her home.
A private memorial service was held March 20, 2004, in Windsor, Ill. Cremation.
A local graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers.
She was born Sept. 18, 1961, in Champaign, Ill.
She was educated in Shawnee Mission, Kan.
Brie was an accomplished office manager, most recently with Martin Insurance Agency.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jean Jacques LeDuc.
Survivors include her husband, John C. Martin; daughters, Kate Bailey and Rebecca Allinder; granddaughters, Ashleigh and Taralynn Bailey; her mother, Katherine M. Johnson; father, Jean LeDuc and wife, Debbie; and other family members.

ELSIE JOAN BRAGAW
Elsie Joan Bragaw, 71, passed away March 17, 2004, in Long Lane, Mo.
Funeral services were March 20, at Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel, Buffalo, Mo.; burial in Riverview Seaney Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Warrensburg, Mo., to Paul and Pansy Palmer.
She was raised in the Lee’s Summit area and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School.
She was united in marriage with Ray Bragaw on May 31, 1952, in Lee’s Summit, and to this union three children were born, all of whom survive her.
In 1970, she and Ray started their own business, Overnight Printing and Business Supply, in Grandview, Mo.
They continued to operate their business for special customers after moving to Long Lane in 1995.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Pauline Pittman.
She is survived by her her husband, Ray, Long Lane; sons, Tim Bragaw, Clovis, Calif., and Paul Bragaw, Elizabeth, Colo.; daughter, Patty Byrd, Granger, Ind.; one sister, Mary C. Frye, Lee’s Summit; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
