JAMES HERBERT GUMM
James Herbert Gumm, 95, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Oct. 19, 2006. Visitation will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 22, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills Chapel.
James was born on July 29, 1911 in Mt. Vernon, Mo. to Jacob and Pearl Gumm. He retired from MODOT as an engineer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and his eldest son. He leaves behind his wife, Mary, of the home; daughter, Sondra Hijleh, of Raymore, Mo.; sons Robert Gumm of Spartanburg, S.C., Matthew Gumm of Lee’s Summit; one step-son, David Burns of Oak Grove, Mo.; one step-daughter, Victoria Green of Lee’s Summit; five grandsons, and 10 great– grandchildren.

MARY GERTRUDE (MARQUETTE) GRAVES
Mary Gertrude (Marquette) Graves was born in 1917 in Lee’s Summit, the daughter of Rolland and Helen Marquette, both of Lee’s Summit, and was a member of the Lee’s Summit High School graduation class of 1936.
As a young woman, Mary modeled for the great Kansas City department stores of the day, most notably Hartzfeld’s. However, with World War II beginning in 1941, she passed on a modeling contract in New York, and in 1942 married her high school sweetheart and moved with him to Tampa, Fla., where his Army division was stationed prior to active duty deployment in the Pacific front. After the war, Mary returned with her husband to Lee’s Summit and started a family.
Mary was a member of the Christian Church of Lee’s Summit and of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and worked tirelessly with the Lee’s Summit Hospital Auxiliary to raise funds to establish Lee’s Summit’s first general hospital in 1989. With her husband, she was active in the Lee’s Summit Historical Society.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank Graves of Lee’s Summit, and by her daughter Janel Romeu, of Barcelona, Spain.
A visitation will take place at 1 p.m. Langsford Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service at the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Lee’s Summit Historical Society to Don Hale, president.

JIM "JAMES" T. HENDRICKS
Jim "James" T. Hendricks, 67, of Reeds Springs, Mo., formerly of Lee’s Summit, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at his home, from kidney cancer.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit; burial in the Lee’s Summit Historic Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 26, 2006 at the funeral home.
Jim was born on July 15, 1939 in Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. He refereed volleyball and was a member of the John Deer Two Cylinder Club of Kansas City he was retired from AT&T; and the Lee’s Summit School District. He and Lou were married for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Hendricks; two children, Angie and Jeff Donaldson of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Glen and Joanne Hendricks of Broomfield, Colo.; two grandchildren, Abbie and CJ Donaldson; and one brother, Larry and Carol Hendricks, of Phfluegerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

MARY JANE HENDERSON
Mary Jane Henderson, 87, of Lee’s Summit passed away on Oct. 15, 2006 in Ashland, Neb.
Mary Jane was a resident of Lee’s Summit from 1975 to 2001 and was employed at the Unity Village Campus during the late 1970s and Cousin’s Furniture in Kansas City, before retiring in 1982. She moved to Omaha to be closer to her son while she was ill in late 2001.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Scott Henderson, of Omaha, Neb.
Her loving son will disseminate Mary Jane’s ashes to the places Mary Jane loved during her tenure on earth at a date yet to be determined.

FRANCES MARIE ALLINDER JORDAN
Frances Marie Allinder Jordan, 78, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit. Friends and family my call from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Marie was born on Feb. 6, 1928 in Neosho, Mo., to Ralph Ellis Allinder and Corda Simmons Allinder. Marie graduated from North East High School in 1945.
Marie lived most of her life in Lee’s Summit and was an active bowler and participated in several leagues for many years, including the PTA league through her children’s school. She provided childcare to numerous children for many years and developed such strong bonds with these children that they would often send pictures of their children back to Marie after they had grown and married. She enjoyed gardening and created new garden areas at John Calvin Manor while she was a resident there. She was a member of the White Ridge Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dellis Allinder and Jim Allinder; and two sisters, Lois Cash and Esther Hobbs.
She is survived by four children and their families, George Jordan and his son Alex Jordan, Dale Jordan, and his wife Mikki, and their children, Shannon Bernand, Taylor Jordan, James Jordan, Jacob Jordan, and Luke Jordan; Laura Jordan and her daughter Amanda Jordan; Teddi Swift and her children Christine Swift, Ryan Swift, Jessica Crossly and Caitlin Crossly. There are also three great-great–grandchildren, Sean Swift, Kaya Moore and Kleigha Moore. She is also survived by one sister, Louise Douglas and her husband, Ferrell.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the Foundation for Hospice Care.

JOHN B. MONTGOMERY
John B. Montgomery, 84, of Lee’s Summit passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at John Knox Village Care Center.
John was born on June 12, 1922 in Yankton, S.D. John worked as the insurance manger for the National Bank of S.D. in Vermillion until his retirement. He proudly served in the U.S. Air force in WWII. He married Helen Ostrem of Centerville, S.D. on May 29, 1945. He received his bachelor’s degree from USD.
Memorial services will take place at 3:30 on p.m. Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006 at John Knox Village Chapel, 400 N.W. Murray Road; burial in Yankton Cemetery, Yankton, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen, in May 2006 and two brothers. Survivors include his son, Bill Montgomery, of Lawrence, Kan; his daughter and son–in–law, Jane and Rich Zeitner, of Lee’s Summit; four grandchildren, Jeff Montgomery, Nicolle Zeitner, Austin Montgomery and Aaron Zeitner; and five great– grandchildren.

GLENN ROBERT PARSONS
Glenn Robert Parsons, 53, of Lee’s Summit passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at the home. No services. Cremation.

LEOTA WARREN
Leota Warren 85 passed away on Monday Oct. 23, 2006 after an active life of raising sons, fishing, camping, water skiing, beach walking and card playing with her family and friends.
She especially enjoyed the first 17 years of retirement with winters in Florida and summers at the lake.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Al Warren; brother, William Marshall, and wife, Roma, of St. Joseph, Mo.; son Jay Warren and wife, Brenda, of Lee’s Summit; son Kent Warren of Lee’s Summit; granddaughter, Amy Whittington and husband, Derek, of San Antonio Texas and Beth Gross and husband, Jamie, of Owensville, Mo.; great–granddaughter, Kate Whittington and other family and friends. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 26, 2006 at the Langsford Funeral Home with visitation prior to services from 1 to 1:30 p.m.; burial will be in Floral Hills East Cemetery.

FRANCES M. CARY
Frances M. Cary, 97, passed away on Oct. 18, 2006 at Foxwood Springs Care Center in Raymore, Mo.
Frances was born on March 16, 1909 near Tarnsey Lakes in Jackson County, Mo. She was the last surviving member of the James. W. Duncan and Hattie St. Clair Duncan family. She was a loving sister to seven brothers and four sisters.
Frances spent all her life in an around the Lee’s Summit area. Family was always No. 1 in her life. She was more concerned with others in the family than herself right up until the end.
Frances loved flowers and won many awards for them over the years and was a member of the Lee’s Summit Flower Association. Frances was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ and attended the Lee’s Summit Chipman Road Church of Christ. She was a long time member of AARP.
She was married to Leonard U. Cary on Sept. 2, 1927 who preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Leonard K. Cary, of Vassar, Kan.; a grandson Gregory K. Cary and wife, Becky, of Lee’s Summit, a granddaughter, Sylvia Robin Bailey, of Wilson, N.H.; a great-granddaughter, Angela Stuart, and husband, Monte, of Blue Springs, Mo.; great–grandson, Mathew Cary, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; great-granddaughter, Melissa Fain, and husband, Lincoln, of Hiram, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Kimberly Russell, of Smyrna, Ga., and the ones who always brought a smile to her face, her great-great-grandsons Jordan and Seth Stuart of Blue Springs, Mo.
Funeral services were held on Saturday Oct. 21, 2006 at Langsford Funeral Home; burial in the Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice.
