TROY - Lloyd E. Eppard, 90, of Moscow Mills, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy.
Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery in Moscow Mills.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Masonic services at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ada Verneal Burkhead
Ottawa, Ill.
June 21, 1911 - Feb. 8, 2003
LOUISIANA - Ada Verneal Burkhead, 91, of Ottawa, Ill., and formerly of Louisiana, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the La Salle County Nursing Home in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Rick Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Burkhead was born June 21, 1911, in Pearl, Ill., to Frank and Mattie Peacock Wood. She was married to Everett (Jack) Burkhead on May 5, 1930, in Louisiana. He preceded her in death June 3, 1998.
Survivors include one son, Everett (Gene) Burkhead of Schertz, Texas; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alfa Ehret of Seneca, Ill.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores Ann Burkhead; two sons, David Ray Burkhead, who died at birth, and Maurice Dean Burkhead; one sister, Odessa Spencer; and three brothers, Lowell Lee Wood, Ivle Wood and Wilbert Wood.

Claudine R. Eder Swartz
Pittsfield, Ill.
Aug. 12, 1920 - Feb. 8, 2000
BOWLING GREEN -­ Claudine R. Eder Swartz, 79, of Pittsfield, Ill., died Feb. 8, 2000, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Kirks Funeral Chapel The Rev. Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will be at Bowling Green Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Swartz was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Bowling Green to Thomas and Rena Swank Eastin.
She was first married to Edward Branstetter, then to Patrick Eder. He preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1976. She was married to Bill Swartz. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sandra Shelby of Houston, Texas and Kathy Duhe of Slidell, La.; two sisters, Geraldine Hess (twin sister) of Pleasant Hill, Ill., and Virginia Eastin of Pittsfield; and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Branstetter.
Mrs. Swartz worked at the Bowling Green public school system as a cook.

Ida Belle Walton
Rockford, Ill.
Aug. 11, 1918 - Feb. 8, 2000
TROY -­ Ida Belle Walton, 81, of Rockford, Ill., died Feb. 8, 2000, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law.
Funeral services for Mr. Colbert will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Troy City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Walton was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Moscow Mills to Francis M. and Ruby Hazel Lee Sheets.
She was married Dec. 6, 1938, to Charles Norman Walton. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include one son, Charles Thomas Walton of Rockford; five grandchildren, Charles Allen, James Thomas Walton, Douglas Burton Walton, Terry M. Walton Jr. and Dacia Markum; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Melva Hechler of Warrensburg; three brothers, Woodrow Sheets of Troy, Donald Sheets of Wentzville, Ill., and Marion Sheets of Villa Ridge.
Mrs. Walton was a graduate of Buchanan High School in Troy. She had recently moved to her son's home in Rockford due to failing health. She worked for T-Bowl Lanes, Whitmer Office Supplies and Mears Shoe Factory, all in Troy.
She was secretary of numerous bowling leagues and secretary/treasurer of the Boot and Shoe Union. She was a member of the Troy V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Troy.

Janace M. Sterne
Garland, Texas
Nov. 19, 1957 - Feb. 9, 2002
GARLAND, Texas - Janace Marla Sterne, 44, of Garland, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Garland.
Funeral services are pending at Eastgate Funeral Home in Garland. Richard Buck will officiate. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery.
Mrs. Sterne was born Nov. 19, 1957, in Louisville, Ky., to Herman and Ruby Goatley.
She was married to Darryl Sterne Sr. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother; four daughters, Latona Hubbard, Bobbi Roach, Heather Sterne and Melissa Sterne; one son, Darryl Sterne Jr.; two grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to include as survivors her mother-in-law and father-in-law, David and Ella Sterne of Louisiana, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Sterne was a minister of the Gospel for more than 20 years. She was employed as a customer service representative.

Beverly Berendzen
Collinsville, Ill.
July 24, 1939 - Feb. 8, 2002
HANNIBAL - Beverly Royce Berendzen, 62, of Collinsville, Ill., and formerly of Center, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Collinsville Care Center.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Grand View Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. Father Michael Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Benton City Cemetery in Benton City.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Berendzen was born July 24, 1939, in Mexico, Mo., to Carl M. and Lula Elizabeth Callon Cunningham.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Berendzen of Collinsville; three sisters, Betty Takahashi of O'Fallon, Vickie Straube of Curryville and Brenda Witt of Eldon; and two grandchildren, Hannah Berendzen and Ashley Berendzen.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carla Cunningham.
Mrs. Berendzen was employed by Southwestern Bell and AT&T; in Hannibal, Springfield, Mo., Eldon, Caruthersville, Hayti, Collinsville, Ill., and Centralia, Ill. She had been manager of operator services and manager of human resources. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a fund-raiser for the United Way. She had been a member of the YMCA board of directors and the mayor's committee for human rights in Springfield. She was a Catholic. She had lived in Collinsville for 16 years, after moving there from Springfield.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Pallbearers will be Heath Pencook, Aaron Straube, Jared Pencook, Ake Takahashi, Chris Straube and Scott Knobel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sara Straube, Trent Straube, Nicole Takahashi, Azure Witt, Kurt Kitson, Brian Anders and Earlene Pencook.

Marvin Elon Benson
Plymouth, Mich.
LIVONIA, Mich. - Marvin Elon Benson, 80, of Plymouth, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Harris Funeral Home in Livonia, Mich.
A luncheon will follow at Northridge Community Church.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Wayne and Kathy Benson of Springfield, Mo., James and Brenda Benson of Belleville, Mich., and Dennis and Terry Benson of Plymouth, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Calvin Benson of Austin, Texas; and one sister, Ruby of Huntsville, Ala.
The family wishes to include as survivors his sister-in-law, Margret Benson; and several nephews, nieces and cousins

Lester Brown Hopkins
Louisiana
June 14, 1915 - Feb. 8, 2003
MONTGOMERY CITY - Lester Brown Hopkins, 87, of Louisiana and formerly of Montgomery City, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery City. The Rev. Jim Guffie will officiate. Burial will be at the Eolia Cemetery in Eolia.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City.
Mr. Hopkins was born June 14, 1915, in Corso to John Milton and Orpha Omega Brown Hopkins.
He was married to Eleanor Grace Dandridge on June 25, 1940, in Bowling Green. She survives.
Other survivors include six children, Donald Eugene Hopkins of Jackson, John Edward Hopkins of Eolia, Bonnie Sue Phillips of Greenwood, Ronald Alan Hopkins and Donna Marie Rivera, both of Troy and Roger Hopkins of Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Hopkins.

Thelma Brinkman
Wellsville
May 3, 1923 - Feb. 9, 2003
TROY - Thelma Brinkman, 79, of Wellsville, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Gamma Road Lodge.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Kemper-Marsh-Millard Funeral Home-Troy Chapel. Burial will be at Troy City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brinkman was born May 3, 1923, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., to Cecil and Osie Bell Barnhill.
She was married to Alvin Thomas Smith in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1944. She was married to Henry Brinkman in 1948. He preceded her in death in January 1986.
Survivors include one son, Alvin Brinkman of Moscow Mills; one brother, Jack Barnhill of Concord, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Harper of Warrenton and Vera Self of Concord, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Wendy Brumit and Tom Brinkman of Frisco, Texas.
Mrs. Brinkman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in Roselle, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Russell O. Filkins Jr.
Palmyra
April 15, 1927 - Feb. 9, 2003
PALMYRA - Russell O. (Bum) Filkins Jr., 75, of Palmyra, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
The Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Filkins was born April 15, 1927, in Little Falls, N.Y., to Russell O. Sr. and Mayme Weaver Filkins.
He was married to Dorothy O. Shannon on Jan. 17, 1946, in Seattle, Wash. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary Filkins and wife, Trudy, of Topeka, Kan., and Dennis Filkins and wife, Fran, of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Dawn Younghans, Scott and Amanda Filkins and Amy Elmer; two stepdaughters, Melanie Fincham and Tia Sampson; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, David M. Filkins; his parents; and one sister, Helen Candella.
Mr. Filkins worked at Bleigh Construction for many years. He retired in the early 1990s. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Arthur V. Bradley
Hannibal
Feb. 25, 1929 - Feb. 8, 2004
HANNIBAL - Arthur V. Bradley, 74, of Hannibal, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at the home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the funeral home. Full military rites will be accorded by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 at 6 p.m.
Mr. Bradley was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Hannibal to Arthur V. Sr. and Dorothy A. Wilson Bradley.
He was married to Dolores (Dee) Hirner on Nov. 10, 1951, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Susie Obert and husband, Randy, of Palmyra, Janice Sanders and husband, Brad, of Saverton, and Laurie Cook and husband, Michael of San Clemente, Calif.; one brother, Kenneth E. Bradley of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Justin Sanders, Nichole Sanders, Miranda Cook and Dylan Cook; and two great-grandchildren, Colton Sanders and Sophie Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bradley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the occupation of Japan. He was a past commander of Hannibal National Guard, having retired after 20 years of service. He worked for the Missouri State Highway Department as a materials inspector for 25 years. He attended South Side Christian Church. He was a member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55, VFW and TPA.
Pallbearers will be Steve Clark, Bill Trail, Mike Harris, Roger Pollard, Jerry Martin and Jack Riechard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Newlon, Woody St. Clair, John Hayden and Jim Elliott.
