Mikkel David Shaddox
Jan. 6, 1946 - July 27, 2006
Mikkel David Shaddox, 60, Urich, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at his home near Urich
He was born Jan. 6, 1946, in Harrison, Ark., the son of William Devoe and Anna Marie (Kimmell) Shaddox.
Feb. 18, 1972, he married Linda Lou Sierks in Colcord, Okla.
Mr. Shaddox was employed as a rough-in carpenter until his retirement in February 2004.
He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, visiting with friends and fishing.
He grew up in Peculiar and moved to Urich in 1982.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Rosetta Chaney.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Shaddox, of the home; two daughters, Marcia Shaddox, Urich, and Shannon Higgs and husband, Jerry, Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, Bill Shaddox, Urich, and Ronnie Shaddox, Warsaw; two sisters, Sandy Knisley, Peculiar, and Margaret White, Panama City, Fla.; four grandchildren; Freddie, B.J., Mia and Elijah; and other relatives and many friends.
Honorary casket bearers were Bill Shaddox and Ronnie Shaddox.
Casket bearers were Mike Bowles, Marcos Escalante, Jerry Higgs, Jeff Rictor, Bill Shaddox Jr., Kevin Sierks, Roger Vansel and Kevin Worthley.
Services were July 31 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. John Kukovich officiating.
Interment was in Grant Cemetery near Creighton under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.
Military services were under the auspices of the Harrisonville Honor Guard, Harrisonville.
The family suggests contributions be made to Twin Lakes Hospice.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City.

Ewald Walter Turner
Oct. 27, 1922 - July 22, 2006
Ewald Walter Turner, 83, Pendleton, Ore., died July 22, 2006, at Willowbrook Terrace.
He was born Oct. 27, 1922, near Urich, the son of Aaron and Bertha (Getz) Turner.
He attended a one-room schoolhouse for eight years and graduated from Creighton High School in 1940.
Mr. Turner graduated from Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1944 and worked as an industrial arts teacher in Warrensburg and Joplin. He received his master’s degree from Northern Colorado University and came to Pendleton where he taught industrial arts at Pendleton Junior High, later becoming vice principal and then principal from 1966 to 1985.
June 19, 1965, he married Paula Ernsberger in Winfield, Iowa.
Mr. Turner was past president of the National Education Association, National Education Association Department of Classroom Teachers, Pendleton Association of Teachers, the Oregon Department of Classroom Teachers and the Morrow-Umatilla Retired Educators Association.
He was also past vice president of the NEA Department of Classroom Teachers and a member of the Oregon Retired Educators Association Scholarship Committee.
Mr. Turner was a member of the Pendleton First Presbyterian Church, acting as elder, deacon and trustee. He was a moderator for the Presbytery of Eastern Oregon and Snake River Mission Area Council, commissioner of the Synod of the Pacific and a member of the General Assembly Committee and Committee on Ministry.
He was also very active in the Pendleton community where he was the organizing president of the Friends of the Library, president of the Pendleton Community Concerts, Rotary Club, chairman of the St. Anthony Hospice Advisory Committee, Umatilla County Library District Campaign and the Umatilla County Juvenile Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Oregon East Symphony board of directors, the Pendleton Swim Association board of directors, the St. Anthony Tree of Lights Festival committee, the Human Rights Committee of the Eastern Oregon Training Center, the Human Relationship Committee of the Oregon Department of Education, the Medicare Advisory Committee of the Oregon Medical Profession Review Organization and the Education Foundation of the Pendleton Board of Directors.
He was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Pendleton Jaycees, an honorary doctorate degree from Lewis and Clark College, the Distinguished Graduate Award from both Colorado State College and Central Missouri State College and Pendleton’s First Citizen Award.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Surviving are his wife, Paula; a daughter, Kimberly Walker; a son, Kurt Turner; a brother, Floyd Turner and wife, Yvonne; a granddaughter; a step-granddaughter; a step-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held July 28 at the First Presbyterian Church, Pendleton. Arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3366, Portland, OR 97208.

Christian A. Ulmer Jr.
July 29, 2006
Christian A. Ulmer Jr., 77, died Saturday, July 29, in Osage Beach.
He was a Marine Corp veteran, a longtime Elks Lodge member and had been employed at Bendix in Kansas City.
He was a resident of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Ulmer.
Surviving are three daughters, Cathie Countryman, Chris Watkins and Lynn Garnett; a brother, George Ulmer; and numerous grandchildren.

Daniel “Danny” Bottero
Nov. 7, 1918 - Aug. 8, 2006
Daniel “Danny” Bottero, 87, Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at the Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg.
He was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Frontenac, Kan., the son of Joseph and Angelina (Goldina) Bottero.
June 2, 1943, he married Nelladene Montgomery in Seneca.
Mr. Bottero was a Metro­politan Life Insurance Agent in Harrisonville, for 26 years and was also a teacher and head football coach for Harrisonville High School. He was a captain in the Army Air Force during World War II serving 25 months in the European Theater Operations.
He was a member of the Amer­ican Legion Post, Frontenac, Kan., and the VFW Post in Pittsburg, Kan.
Mr. Bottero was a 1936 graduate of Frontenac High School where he participated in football, basketball and ran track. He attended Arkansas City Junior College graduating in 1939 and later attended Pittsburg Teacher’s College where he graduated in 1941. He won Golden Gloves titles in Pittsburg in 1936, 1937 and 1940, Hutchison, Kan., titles in 1938 and 1939 and was Kansas City Golden Gloves and Missouri Valley AAU Champion in 1940.
He served on the Harrisonville City Council for many years and started the youth football program in Harrisonville. He had lived in Harrisonville and Joplin before moving to Warrensburg in 2002.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Joe Bottero, and a sister, Madeline Achille.
Surviving are his wife, Nelladene Bottero, of the home; two daughters, Kay L. Bell and husband, Ron, Claremore, Okla., and Deborah Pfister and husband, Jerry, Knob Noster; four grandchildren, Brian, Brett, Chad and Cassie; a great-grandson, Logan; and other relatives and many friends.
Honorary casket bearers were John Berry, John Levra, Jack Lyons, Luke Scavuzzo, John Surls, Morris Watts, Robert Watts and Ronnie Watts.
Casket bearers were Ben Alburtis, Shorty Carlile, Don Foster, John M. Foster, Bill Moore and Robin Wright.
Services were Aug. 11, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with Dr. Kerry Skidmore officiating. Dana Pulliam provided the music.
Graveside services and burial were Aug. 11, at Seneca Cemetery, West Seneca, Okla. Military services were under the auspices of the 203rd National Guard, Joplin.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Stroke association.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Philip Kirk Gough
July 6, 1951 - Aug. 10, 2006
Philip Kirk Gough, 55, Belton, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Raymore Health Care, Raymore.
He was born July 6, 1951, in Harrisonville, the son of Bob Joe and Dorothy Marie (Gwinner) Gough.
Mr. Gough had lived in Garden City, Peculiar and Platte City, before moving to Belton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City.
He was a 1969 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School, Peculiar, and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, wooded areas and nature.
Preceding him in death was his father, Bob J. Gough.
Surviving are a son, Jacob Gough, Independence; his mother, Dorothy M. Gough, Raymore; a brother, Perry E. Gough and wife, Lynda, Belton; a sister, Penny L. Gough, Grandview; and other relatives and many friends.
Cremation with no services scheduled.
The family suggest contributions be made to the Missouri Department of Conservation and may be sent to Dickey Funeral Home P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Sheri Ann Kenter-Hooker
July 23, 1966 - Aug. 7, 2006
Sheri Ann Kenter-Hooker, 40, Plano, Texas, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, while vacationing in Barre, Vt.
She was born July 23, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John M. and Judith Ann (Holbrook) Kenter.
Mrs. Hooker grew up in Dallas, Texas, and attended St. Rita Catholic School. She graduated from W.T. White High School in 1984 and from Brookhaven College.
She earned the rank of first class Girl Scout. She was den mother for Cub Scout Troop No. 262 and was room mom at Christie Elementary, soccer mom for Rainbow Stars and and advocate for Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Cecil and Bobbie Holbrook, Maurice and Leona Kenter and her aunt, Patricia Beaven.
Surviving are her mother, Judith Kenter; a sister, Angela Kenter; her two sons, Jonathan and Andrew Hooker; stepchildren, Alex and Cassidy Hooker; and countless friends and family.
Casket bearers were Jeff Sears, Patrick Beaven, Dan Blurton, Vincent Sears, Jacob Beaven and Alex Hooker.
Funeral services were Aug. 16, at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, officiated by the Rev. Travis James. Music was provided by Donna Overcast, soloist, and Cindy Dunham, pianist.
Burial was in Orient Ceme­tery, Harrisonville, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
Contributions may be made to Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome Association.
