GASTONIA — Meredith Hoyle Lansing, 79, of 2506 East Spencer Avenue, died Oct. 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Reeps Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the funeral home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was employed as an inspector in the furniture industry.
Survivors include one daughter, Patsy C. Aycoth of Gastonia; four brothers, Bill Hoyle, Vergil Hoyle, Loy Hoyle, and Lloyd Hoyle, all of Vale; one sister, Ann H. Hovis of Boger City; and two grandchildren, Teresa Edwards, and Allen Darrell Aycoth.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund for Meredith H. Lansing, c/o Teresa Edwards, P.O. Box 83, McAdenville, N.C. 28101.

Mary Jane Knight
CHERRYVILLE — Mary Jane Canipe Knight, 71, of 109 Carlton Drive, died Oct. 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was employed as a registered nurse for Lincoln County Medical Center until retirement.
Survivors include her son, Alfred “Al” Hoover Knight Jr. of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Joy Lynn Knight, and Beth Anne Knight.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 631 N. Pink St., Cherryville, N.C. 28021; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Carpenter’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ann Branton
Mary Ann Branton, 52, of 414 Victory Grove Church Road, died Oct. 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two brothers, Billy Branton of Stanley, and David Lee Branton of Lincolnton; and two sisters, Geraldine Schronce, and Ellen “Lacy” Dameron, both of Lincolnton.
Memorials may be made to Christian Ministries, P.O. Box 423, Lincolnton, N.C. 28093.

Danny Brittain
SHELBY — Danny Ray Brittain, 53, of 2607 Spring Valley Terrace, died Oct. 27, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the owner and operator of D&W Produce and was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Walker Brittain; his mother, Mae Lena Martin Brittain of Lawndale; two step-daughters, Haley Whisnant of Kings Mountain, and Jennifer Ruppe of Greensboro; one sister, Kathy Wells of Lawndale; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Avery, and Hunter.
Memorials mat be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, N.C. 28150; or the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association, 1017 N. Washington St., Shelby, N.C.

Christopher Lewis
LOWESVILLE — Christopher Scott Lewis, 20, died Oct. 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel at Raymer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church.
Born in Mecklenburg County, he attended East Lincoln High School, and was employed with Estes Express Lines.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Ronnie and Pam Lewis of Lowesville; his mother, Lori Hobgood Lewis of Charlotte; three step-sisters, Lisa Sustar, Pamela Tolbert, and Toni Mahaffey; and his grandparents, Earl and Rebecca Lewis of Graham, George and Trudy Hobgood of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Lita T. Hobgood of Charlotte.

Nellie Loftin
Nellie Beutel Ewing Loftin, 96, of the Lincoln Nursing Center, formerly of 4550 King Wilkinson Road in Denver, died Oct. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include six sons, Morgan Loftin Jr., Walter Loftin, and Jerry Loftin, all of Lincolnton, Herbert Loftin of Huntersville, and Terry Loftin, and Toney Loftin, both of Denver; one daughter, Mary Eugene Loftin of Morganton; two sisters, Edith Lemmonds, and Gladys Lawing, both of Lincolnton; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lester Goodson
MAIDEN — Lester James Goodson, 72, of 1768 Union Street, died Oct. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the church.
Born in Catawba County, he was employed with Carolina Mills until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Abernathy Goodson; three daughters, Leslie Dellinger of Newton, Sherrie Redmon of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Kerri Campbell of Dacula, Ga.; one sister, Katie Turner of Maiden; one brother, Glenn Goodson of Maiden; and four grandchildren, Brian Dellinger, David Dellinger, Kelly Campbell, and Phillip Campbell.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8 at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, she was the operator of a private daycare in her home, a member of Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church and a housewife.
Survivors include four sons, Eddie Shrum of Maiden, Gerald Shrum, Nelson Shrum, and Ronnie Shrum, all of Lincolnton; two sisters, June Auton and Elizabeth Howard, both of Lincolnton; two brothers, Woodrow Shrum and Ernest Shrum of Lincolnton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Wilbur Marvin Poole, 64, of 2447 Gaston Webbs Chapel Road, died today, Oct. 30, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army veteran and former manager of Sunox Co. in Gastonia.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Carpenter Poole; one son, Chris Poole of Lincolnton; one daughter, Kim Willis of Vale; four brothers, Therman Poole of Gastonia, Ronnie Poole of Bessemer City, Wayne Poole of Belvedere, S.C., and Leonard Poole of Lincolnton; one sister, Carol Dills of Gastonia; and two grandchildren, Josh Poole, and Kelsey Poole.

Nell Haire
Nell Taylor Haire, 72, died Oct. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, Oakland Road in Spindale. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
A registered nurse, she worked at numerous hospitals throughout western North Carolina as floor supervisor, and private duty nurse.
Survivors include her husband, Bill A. Haire; two sons, William D. of Nashville, Tenn., and Randy A. Roswell of Georgia; two sisters, Lucille Taylor Gast of Rutherfordton and Patricia Taylor Doar of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, James Martin Taylor of Richlands; two grandchildren, Sarah Haire and Megan Haire; and one adopted family member, Scott Shields of Nashville, Tenn.
