CARTER
Ruth Lunn Carter, 68, of Payne, died Monday, September 22, 2003, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born August 31, 1935, in Payne, the daughter of the late Frank and Cora (Lewis) Lunn. On January 14, 1956, she married Keith E. Carter, who survives in Payne.
Mrs. Carter retired from HWI in New Haven, Ind., and was also an aide at Payne Elementary School. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Payne.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Brian (Vicki) Carter of Payne; two daughters, Sandra Burke and Christina (Sam) Flynn, both of Payne; five brothers, Henry (Pete) Lunn of Topanga Canyon, Calif., Bill Lunn of Lawty, Fla., Frank Lunn of Albuquerque, N.M., Carl Lunn of Newport, N.C., and Paul Lunn of Kenai, Alaska; three sisters, Mary Jane Fulk of Payne, Margaret McGrath of Prescott, Ariz., and Enid Brooks of Honduras; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Lunn and Edward "Bud" Lunn.
Private graveside funeral services will be held at a later date in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Carter to Paulding County Hospital Home Health Care.
Slade Funeral Home in Payne was in charge of arrangements.

WICKSTROM
Ruth Marion Wickstrom, beloved wife of Karl E. Wickstrom, of Otterbein Retirement Community in St. Marys, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003.
She was born in Cleveland in 1913, the daughter of Oscar G. and Anna M. (Hultman) Larson. She and Karl had been married for over 66 years, since June 10, 1937.
Mrs. Jones was a loving mother, Head Start teacher, receptionist and minister's wife. Her hobbies were reading, needlework, avid stamp collecting, music and her family. She was a graduate of Fenger High School and attended North Park College, both in Chicago. She and Karl were both of Scandinavian heritage and enjoyed speaking Swedish to each other throughout their married life. Ruth loved to travel and had visited many parts of the world with her husband and family.
In addition to her husband, survivors include children Bonnie R. Jones of Van Wert, Dorothy L. (Ron) Dirkse of Holland, Mich., and K. Ted (Pam) Wickstrom of Prescott, Ariz.
Grandchildren include Chase Wickstrom, Chad Wickstrom, Erika Rescher, Matt Dirkse, Jasen Dirkse and Rachel Armstrong.
Services will be at the discretion of the family at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Wickstrom to Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys, OH 45885.

NIGHSWANDER
Clara Agnes Nighswander, 93, of Delphos, died at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Van Wert Manor.
She was born August 4, 1910, in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Henry and Philomena (Wischmeyer) Beckman.
Mrs. Nighswander worked as a cook at Conrad's Truck Stop for many years.
Survivors include five sons, Edward (Patricia) Nighswander of Mendon, Albert (Bernita) Nighswander of Leipsic, Robert (Maxine) Nighswander of Antwerp, Donald Nighswander of Brockway, Pa., and Larry (Beverly) Nighswander of Van Wert; three daughters, Dorthy Wiesehan of Antwerp and Marjorie (Carol) Kemp and Donna (Clifford) Ball, both of Venedocia; one sister, Jenny Johnson of Toledo; 36 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Clem Beckman, and a sister, Marie Hawkins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel, with Father Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a vigil will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. that day.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Nighswander to the Van Wert Manor Activity Department, to masses or a charity of donor's choice.

RHOADES
Martha Moser Rhoades, 93, of Rockford, died at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Laurels of Shane Hill nursing home in Rockford.
She was born February 22, 1909, near Dalton in Wayne County to the late David J. and Lina (Bixler) Moser. On July 6, 1940, she married Clarence Rhoades, who died October 1, 1946.
Mrs. Rhoades taught Latin and English in the Center, Fairfield and Parkway school systems. She graduated from Bluffton College in 1931 and was a member of Mercer County Retired Teachers and Ohio Retired Teachers associations. She was a member of Rockford United Methodist Church and, at the former Grace United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Hubert) Eichenauer of Loudon, Tenn., and Nancy (Ronald) Fleming of Rockford; a brother, Rollin Moser of Bluffton; one foster sister, Virginia Henry of Wooster; four grandchildren, Jay Fleming, Steven Eichenauer, Susan Smith and Vicki Keber; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 26 stepgreat-grandchildren; a number of stepgreat-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan and Herman Moser, and three stepdaughters, Edna, Ruby and Mildred.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 27, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Mike Berne officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery in Celina.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Rhoades to Rockford United Methodist Church.

HOLTKAMP
D. Joyce Holtkamp, 90, formerly of Van Wert, died at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Casa Palmara Nursing Home in Del Mar, Calif.
She was born February 21, 1913, in Tontogany, the daughter of the late Allen J. and Katie (Sabin) Park. On October 15, 1938, she married Lawrence C. "Larry" Holtkamp, who died in 1982.
Mrs. Holtkamp was a retired teacher from Lincoln Junior High School in Van Wert. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert and its Presbyterian Women's Club. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, Retired Teachers of Van Wert, Willow Bend Country Club and Twig I, and was a graduate of Bowling Green State University.
Survivors include a son, Philip (Susan) Holtkamp of Encinitas, Calif.; one daughter, Kathryn Ann (James) Borden of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Helen Haver of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Loren Thistle and Christopher Holtkamp, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Haley Holtkamp.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucile Brown.
Funeral services are to be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Holtkamp to the First Presbyterian Organ Fund or Brumback Library.

TARLTON
Marian L. "Marylou" Tarlton, 71, of Scott, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1932, in Hoaglin Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of Eugene P. and Marcile (Gause) Akom. On July 3, 1953, she married Robert E. Tarlton, who survives in Scott.
Mrs. Tarlton was a homemaker and an avid camper.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Burdge of Van Wert; two sons, Kevin (Deb) Tarlton and Scott Tarlton, both of Scott; three brothers, Donald Akom and Richard Akom, both of Scott, and Daniel Akom of Marion; four grandchildren, Kandi Lautzenheiser, Joseph Tarlton, Mandi Danylchuk, Kendra (David) Wessel, and seven great-grandchildren, Harley, Alicia, Jordon, Mia, Chelsea, Gabrielle, Marcus.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Alice Mullen and Becky Ladd, and three brothers, Robert, James and Maurice "Scud" Akom.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Terry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Tarlton to the Scott EMS squad.

PATTON
Gertrude "Gertie" Patton, 76, of Delphos, died at 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003, at Lima Manor nursing home.
She was born November 11, 1926, in Fort Jennings, the daughter of the late Chris and Beatrice (McElwain) Wieging. On October 16, 1948, she married Louis Patton, who died July 6, 1985.
Mrs. Patton was a beautician and owned the Beauty Bungalow. She was in business for 40 years. She was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 40 and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. She graduated from Fort Jennings High School in 1944 and from the Frederick Beauty School in Lima, where she taught for five years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting and was a very good cook. Her passion was her beauty shop and her ladies." She was very hard working and helped raise her granddaughter, April, for eight years, making her very special to her.
Survivors include a son, Gordon (Nancy) Patton of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Cheri (Carl) Core of Delphos and Elaine (Stephen) Sams of Hamilton; two sisters, Margaret Edelbrock of Findlay and Mildred Dunn of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren, Josh, Chris, Katie and April Patton; two stepgrandchildren, David (Denise) Core and Anita Rupp, and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Baumeier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harter & Son Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. that day, and a CLC service will also be held on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Patton to the American Diabetes Association, American Kidney Association or for Masses.
