ORRVILLE -- Alicia Daniel Jackson, infant daughter of Margerita Jackson, 212 N. Mill Street, was stillborn Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, with the Rev. Bernard Lawson officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Auble Funeral Home in Orrville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club Endowment Fund, 820 N. Ella St., Orrville 44667.
Other survivors include a brother, Brandon Marcell Jackson of the home; and maternal grandmother, Betty Jackson of Canton.

Anson Carpenter
MILLERSBURG -- Anson L. Carpenter, 62, 349 N. Monroe St., died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at his residence after an extended illness.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Berlin, with the Rev. Wendell Beal officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Berlin, Tract Ministry.
He was born March 9, 1937 in Shreve to Anson and Mary Alice (Keim) Carpenter Sr. and married Dorothy Towner on Nov. 28, 1959. She survives along with their children, Janice (Carpenter) Shroyer and her husband, Mark, and Anson Curtis Carpenter III and Lisa Fogal. He was the proud grandpa of Ian Michael Shroyer.
Other survivors include sisters, Edna Marie Chapman and Patricia DeVore, both of Wooster, Amy Roberta Howman of Bradenton, Fla., and Julia Ann Osborne of Moneta, Va.

Roxanna Owens
LOUDONVILLE -- Roxanna Ruth Owens, 64, 803 S. Mount Vernon Ave., died Tuesday afternoon, July 13, 1999, at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital, after a long illness.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville, with the Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating.
Friends may call Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville.
Surviving are children and their spouses, Beulah and Tony Evans of Pineville, Ky., Robert and Pam Barnett of Perrysville, Ernest and Chris Owens of Denver, and Terry Owens of Mansfield; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Nancy Kershner of Perrysville; brothers, Charles "Butch" and Thomas Kershner, both of Perrysville, Fred and David Kershner, both of Mansfield and Robert Kershner of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles Moss
GRAFTON -- Charles E. Moss, 72, of Grafton, died Tuesday morning, July 13, 1999, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, after a long illness.
He was the father of Phyllis Parker of Lodi.
Services will be Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, with the Rev. Samuel Calhoun officiating. Private family burial will be Saturday at Burbank Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Other survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy (Mosier) Moss; children, Hazel Butler, Ruth Rains, Molly Grabrovac and Charles R. Moss, all of Elyria, Mildred Jenkins of Grafton, and Bonnie Kyer of Litchfield; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, David Moss of Crystal River, Fla., and Robert Moss of Spencer, W.Va.; and a sister, Betty Stalneker of Normantown, W.Va.

Galen Hochstetler
SMITHVILLE -- Galen C. Hochstetler, 86, 252 Northeast St., died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.
Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Paradise Church of the Brethren, with the Revs. Robert Armitage and Guy Buch and the Rev. Dr. David Oliver officiating. Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County, P.O. Box 374, Wooster 44691; or to Paradise Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund.
He was born March 12, 1913 in Berlin to Melvin and Florence (Penrod) Hochstetler and married Ruth Hershberger on Sept. 14, 1935. She died June 6, 1985. On April 12, 1986, he married Pauline Grimm. She died May 23, 1993.
Surviving are his third wife, Dorothy Lowe Hochstetler; children and their spouses, Ken and Vicki Hochstetler of Glendale, Ariz., Harold and Lois Hochstetler of Orrville, Phyllis and Paul Johanson of Overland Park, Kan., and Marceil Steiner of Wooster; stepchildren, Phil Grimm of Dalton, Robert Maag of Orrville, Earl Maag of Adrian, Mich., Nancy Grimm of Youngstown and Debby DeFine of Canton; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl "Pat" Hochstetler of Wooster and Wayne Hochstetler of Smithville; and sister, Beulah Kiener of Louisville and LeVerle Sappington of Bridgewater, Va.

Edgar Schuler
WOOSTER -- Edgar A. Schuler, 94, 1715 Mechanicsburg Road, died Tuesday afternoon, July 13, 1999, at West View Manor.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements.
Those who wish may make contributions to Niehoff, Schuler and Adams Fund, International Studies and Programs, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich. 48824-1035.
He was born April 9, 1905 in Garner, Iowa, to John Adam and Lydia (Schaefer) Schuler and married Kathryn E. Reinhart. She died previously.
Surviving are children and their spouses, John H. and Betty Schuler of Wooster, Virginia R. and Joel Shulman of Raynham, Mass., and Kathryn S. Kirshner of Brookline, Mass.; grandchildren, Adam Joseph Kiryk, George Edgar Schuler, Benjamin Reinhart Kirshner, Sarah Kathryn Schulman; and a great-grandson, Jacob Djumaga Kiryk.

Edna Vetter
RITTMAN -- Edna M. Vetter, 84, of Rittman, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. Philip P. Pritt officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster. Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, where a wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. She was born Jan. 4, 1915 in Wayne County to Lewis and Maude (Billhimer) Walters and married Paul Vetter. He died in 1972. Surviving are children, James Vetter of Doylestown, Richard Vetter of Bradenton, Fla., and Rose Mary Vetter of Tucson, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Richard Griffith
RITTMAN -- Richard A. Griffith, 55, 217 Grandview Blvd., died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Brenn-Field Nursing Home in Orrville. Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, with the Rev. Robert Combs officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 7-9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Home Health Care, 195 Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth 44281. He was born June 11, 1944 in Wooster to Paul H. and Charlotte E. (Darr) Griffith and married Darlene Saal on April 10, 1965. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Douglas Griffith and his wife, Robin, of Sterling and daughters, Mrs. Larry (Deborah) Reeves of Wadsworth and Mrs. Douglas (Dianna) Beichler of Wilmington; five grandchildren; and a brother, Gary Griffith of Orrville.

Alice Griffith
MARSHALLVILLE -- Alice D. Griffith, 60, 12532 Fox Lake Road, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at her home after a long illness. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's United Church of Christ in Marshallville, with the Rev. Joe Roth officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. She was born Jan. 26, 1939 in Kenmore to Steve and Helen (Dobosh) Markus and married Max Griffith on June 21, 1958. He survives. Other survivors include children and their spouses, Brett Griffith of Dalton, Brock and Jackie Griffith of Orrville and Traci and Gus Winter of Nashville, Tenn.; her mother of Canal Fulton; four grandchildren; brothers, Steven Markus of Akron, Alex Markus of Manchester and John Markus of Canal Fulton; and sisters, Elizabeth Dietrich of Akron and Mary Anderson of Canal Fulton.

Mitchell Conley
WOOSTER -- Mitchell Conley, 85, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at West View Manor in Wooster. Surviving are a son and his wife, Richard and Greta Conley of Wooster; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Burial will be in Kentucky.

Edna Martin
LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- Edna A. Martin, 83, of Lewisburg, W.Va., formerly of Wayne County, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Putnam General Hospital in Teays Valley, W.Va., after a short illness. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mohican Church of the Brethren Cemetery in West Salem, with the Revs. Paul Bartholomew and Todd Martin officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the graveside services at Mohican Church of the Brethren. Local arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster. She was born Sept. 26, 1915 in Wayne County to John L. and Elmira Gable and married John W. Martin. He died in 1988. Surviving are children and their spouses, Dr. Dallas Brant and Ann Martin of Charleston, W.Va., Geraldine R. and Gordon Martin of Forest City, N.C., and Elaine K. and John Roberts of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Sara, Stephen, Erin and John Martin and Andy and Jamie Roberts; a sister, Kathryn E. Horst of Lattasburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence Bender
LOUDONVILLE -- Florence E. Bender, 82, 8890 Township Road 459, died Saturday evening, July 10, 1999, at Kingston of Ashland, after a brief illness. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Loudonville, with the Rev. James Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 127 S. Union St., Loudonville; or to the Loudonville Fire Department, Emergency Medical Service, Inc., 200 N. Market St., Loudonville 44842. She was born Sept. 2, 1916 in Wooster to Charles and Cora (Taylor) Strang and married John O. Bender. He died in 1986. Surviving are children and their spouses, John C. and Carolyn Bender of Wooster and Shirley and Dale Stake of Loudonville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Strang of Loudonville.

Marilyn Alshouse
TOLEDO -- Marilyn M. Alshouse, 62, of Toledo, formerly of Mansfield, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Sunrise Care Center, Toledo, after an extended illness. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Loudonville Cemetery, with the Rev. Greg R. Turner officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville. Surviving are children and their spouses, the Rev. Greg R. and Brenda Turner of Coarse Gold, Calif., Chris N. Turner of Miami, Fla., Jamee and Jim O'Neil of Flaggstaff, Ariz., and Sheree and Brian Strang of Reno, Nev.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Jean Morris of Mannington, W.Va., Marjorie Patterson of Hayesville and Marlene Stapleton of Logan, Utah.

Lucile Kutz
WOOSTER -- Lucile P. Kutz, 95, of Wooster, died Saturday afternoon, July 10, 1999, at West View Manor Nursing Center, where she had resided since March 1994. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Dale L. Sanford officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call a half hour prior to the services at the funeral home. She was born Feb. 29, 1904 in Edison to Ray and Bertha (Welbourn) Powell and married Ellsworth Milton Kutz. He died Sept. 26, 1987. Surviving are a daughter, AnnaBelle Mattevi and her husband, Richard, of Canton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Maxine Webster of Wooster.

Doris Mast
PERRYSBURG -- Doris Louise Mast, 74, of Perrysburg, formerly of Wooster, died Friday, July 9, 1999. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster. The cremains will be interred at Wooster Cemetery. The family requests that contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born Oct. 3, 1924 in Canton to Hobart and Helen (Crawford) Schaaf and married Vernon D. Mast on Nov. 20, 1948. He survives. Other survivors include children and their spouses, Darryl and Alice Mast of Cortland, Sheila Mast and William Hoyt of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Julie and Lyle Aune of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Marc and Brian Mast, Juan and Nick Aune and Jana (Aune) Angell; four great-grandchildren; and her father of Wooster.

Phyllis Armstrong
BIG PRAIRIE -- Phyllis W. Armstrong, 84, formerly of 8811 County Road 373, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Holmes County Home. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Johnston-Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve, with the Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to Holmes County Home Auxiliary, 7260 State Route 83, Holmesville 44633; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4815 Munson St., NW, Canton 44718. She was born Aug. 17, 1914 in Wayne County to Martin and Ella (Lewis) Gallagher and married Hershel Armstrong on Sept. 24, 1924. He died Aug. 29, 1989. Surviving are children and their spouses, Janet and John Baker of Big Prairie and Raymond and Patty Armstrong of Shreve; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Gallagher of St. Marys.

Samuel Reese
WOOSTER -- Samuel Dee Reese, infant son of Amanda Fife and Carl Reese Sr., 623 Spruce St., died Saturday morning, July 10, 1999 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Graveside services were held today (Monday) at 2 at Mansfield Cemetery. Williams Funeral Services in Canton, handled arrangements. Other survivors include a sister, Shawnta Reese of Mansfield; brothers, Michael Reese of Mansfield and Carl Reese Jr. of the home; maternal grandmother, Sue Fife and maternal great-grandparents, Betty and Leonard Claypool, all of Mansfield.

Bertha Swartz
WEST SALEM Bertha Swartz, 78, of West Salem, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Burbank Cemetery, with the Rev. Raymond Miller officiating.
Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m.-noon at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
She was born Feb. 7, 1921 in Rittman to Wesley and Elizabeth (Wallace) Gast and married Virgil Swartz on Nov. 8, 1941. He survives.
Other survivors include sons, Daniel Swartz and his wife, Debra, of West Salem and Melvin Swartz of Texas; two grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Gast of Rittman.

Barry Woodhull
MANSFIELD -- Barry W. Woodhull, 51, 1475 Frederick Court, formerly of Wooster, died Thursday afternoon, July 8, 1999, at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield. Burial will be at Mansfield Memorial Park.
Friends may call today (Sunday) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Barry Woodhull Jr.'s Educational Fund.
Surviving are children, Barry "B.J." Woodhull Jr. of Mansfield, Shiela Middleton of Shreve and Shelley Quirtz of Arkansas; stepsons, Derek, Chad and Todd Fisher, all of Mansfield; five grandchildren; a sister, Debbie Collmar Carver and her husband, Ted, of Mansfield; a brother, Robert Woodhull of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four nieces and two nephews; his grandmother, Mary Shairck of Wooster; and his fiance, Lisette Fisher.

Helen Wiggins
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Helen D. Wiggins, 85, of Franklin, Pa., died Saturday morning, July 10, 1999, at Wooster Community Hospital.
A private committal service will be held in Dayton and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1250 Elk St., Franklin, Pa. 16323.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster.
Surviving are her only sister, Mollen Russell, and a nephew, John Russell, both of Wooster.

Bill Penn
WOOSTER -- William O. "Bill" Penn, 92, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster, after an extended illness. He was formerly of Dover and a long-time resident of Bowerston.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, with Pastor Allen Bergmann officiating. Burial will be at Longview Cemetery in Bowerston.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Dover.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille (VanLehn) Penn. They were married June 15, 1932.
He is also survived by daughters and their spouses, Judy and Paul Mallonn of Wooster and Janet and Joe Schroeder of Glenview, Ill.; grandchildren, Brad Schroeder, Elizabeth Anderluh and her husband, John, Penn Mallonn and his fiancee, Kim Crane, and Christie Hausmann and her husband, Clay; and great-granddaughters, Megan and Shea Anderluh.
