BARBERTON -- James E. "Bud" Johnston, 80, of Barberton, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown with the Rev. George Peters officiating. Burial will be at Smithville Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by a son, James R. Johnston of Barberton; a sister, Eleanor Osterstock of Wadsworth and a nephew, David Osterstock of Wadsworth.

Katie Miller
SUGARCREEK -- Katie Ann Miller, 77, 10955 Gerber Valley Road NW, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at her residence of congestive heart failure. Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Miller residence with Bishop Roy Mast officiating. Burial will be at Hershberger-Schrock Cemetery in Sugarcreek Township. Friends may call anytime after noon today (Sunday) at the residence. Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. She married Peter L. Miller on Jan. 17, 1952. He survives. She was a member of the Amish church. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Levi (Mary Gingerich) Miller of the home; six grandchildren; her step-mother, Anna Schrock of Stuarts Draft, Va.; four brothers, Jonas A. Schrock of Millersburg, Emanuel A. Schrock of Kidron, Andy A. Schrock of Catlett, Va. and Wayne A. Schrock of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada and five sisters, Edna Berger of Strasburg, Anna Troyer of Holmesville, Mrs. Abe (Sarah) Troyer of Apple Creek, Mrs. Nelson (Amanda) Miller of Hartville, and Mrs. Harry (Lizzie Ann) Yoder of Millington, Md.

Barbara Stover
BREWSTER -- Barbara S. Stover, 54, of Brewster, died Sunday, Jan. 17, at her home after an extended illness. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster, with the Rev. Ron Howard officiating. Burial will be at Stanwood Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 925 S. Main St., North Canton 44720. She was born Aug. 14, 1944 in Harper, W.Va., to Fred and Velma I. (Daniel) Daniels and married Nolan K. Stover on April 30, 1962. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Mrs. Rex (Deb) Wiebe of Dalton, Sandy Scott and Bonnie Mills, both of Brewster; five grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Margaret) Pack of Beckley, W.Va., Mary Cooper of Woodward, Okla., Mrs. Robert (Brenda) Lawson of Brewster, Mrs. Jerry (Patty) Smith of Alliance, Nancy Daniels and Mrs. Ron (Linda) Carpenter, both of Canton and Mrs. George (Judy) Radcliff of Justus; and brothers, Tim Daniels of Port Washington, Bruce Daniels of Canton, Carlos Daniels of Alliance, Charles Daniels of Dalton, James Daniels of Gardner, Pa., and Jesse Daniels of Dundee.

Clifton Looney
MOUNT VERNON -- Clifton Bryon Looney, 36, 1100 Coshocton Road, died Saturday, Jan. 16, in Columbus, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the brother of Steve Looney and Brenda Hammons, both of Brinkhaven. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with the Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County AA, 33 Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon 43050. Surviving in addition to his brother and sister, are children, Shawn and Amanda Looney, both of Millwood; his mother, Loraine Stacy Bartz of Mount Vernon; a brother, Curtis Dean Looney of Danville; sisters, Linda Towner and Melissa Vess, both of Danville; grandfather, Thomas Looney of Danville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

BALTIC -- Norma Jean Reidenbach, 69, 109 Sunset Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 16, after a battle with cancer. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Baltic Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Arlen Longanecker officiating. Burial will be at Brethren Cemetery in Baltic. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Baltic Church of the Brethren; or American Cancer Society. She was born Nov. 29, 1929 in Stonecreek to George and Grace (Kugler) Renner and married Kenneth Reidenbach on Aug. 12, 1951. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Mrs. Dan (Marsha) Burky of Sugarcreek, Karen Welling and Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Maurer, both of Baltic and Mark Reidenbach of Bedford, Texas; four grandchildren; and brothers, Clayton Renner of New Braunfels, Texas and John Renner of Baltic.

MILLERSBURG -- James Ball, 80, of Millersburg, died Saturday evening, Jan. 16, at Terrace View Nursing Home, Millersburg, after an extended illness. There will be no services and calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements. Surviving are his wife, Thelma Ball; children, Simon and Samuel Ball, both of the home; three grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Ball of Millersburg.

Hazel Mottle
WOOSTER -- Hazel M. Mottle, 74, 685 Sherwood Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at Wooster Community Hospital. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Dean Troyer officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born Sept. 17, 1924 in McComas, W.Va., to Mack and Martha Faw, and married James Mottle on Sept. 5, 1953. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are children and their spouses, Joseph and Debra Mottle and Carolyn and Charles Kennedy, all of Wooster, Christy and Gordon Gant of Indianapolis, Janice and Glenn Beck of Creston and Robert and Teresa Mottle of Millersburg; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Coyle of Seville.

WADSWORTH -- Alice L. Hooser, 75, of Wadsworth, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at Barberton Citizens Hospital, after a brief illness. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hilliard-Cox-Mullaney Funeral Home in Wadsworth, with the Rev. James L. Singleton officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are children and their spouses, Sandra and Raymond Wilson of Doylestown, Barbara and Ronald Brogan of Wadsworth, Debra Craddock and Thomas E. and Bonnie Hooser, all of Rittman and Herbert L. and Pamela Hooser Jr. of Wadsworth; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elroy T. Luft of Wadsworth. Her husband, Herbert L. Hooser Sr., died previously.

MORGANTOWN, Ky. -- Oval Rex Allen, 77, of Morgantown, Ky., died Saturday, Jan. 16, at Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky. Services will be tonight (Monday) at 7 at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown, Ky. Burial will be Wednesday at Orma Cemetery, Orma, W.Va. Friends may call after 2 today (Monday) at the funeral home. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Dorthy Allen of Big Prairie; stepchildren, Shirley Kay McAfee, Marion, William and John D. Miller, all of Wooster, Christine Moore and Loretta Sublett, both of Morgantown, Ky.; three grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchilren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Blake Allen and a half-brother, Roger Allen, both of West Virginia; and sisters, Ressie King and Nell Holt, both of Orma, W.Va., Darry Cober and Ethel Waldecker, both of Columbus.

HAYESVILLE -- Ocie H. Scarberry, 87, formerly of 24 Harclay Court, Hayesville, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at Austin Care Center in New Pittsburg. Private graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Vermillion Cemetery in Hayesville, with the Rev. Wendy Guion officiating. There will be no calling hours. Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville, is handling arrangements. Surviving are sons, Gary Scarberry of Hayesville and Jack Scarberry of Akron; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Katherine Momchilov
WOOSTER -- Katherine Momchilov, 90, 5038 Shreve Road, died Sunday morning, Jan. 17, 1999, at West View Manor Care Center, Wooster, where she had been resided since April 7, 1997. There will be no services or calling hours. Cremation has taken place and disposition of the cremains will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Custer Funeral Home, Wooster. Surviving are a son, Daniel L. and wife, Josette Momchilov of Wooster and a daughter-in-law, Nellie Momchilov of Jeromesville; grandsons, Dennis, Michael, Gipp, Mark and Cass; great-grandchildren, Conan, Cory, Rhiannon, Rhett, Libby and Anna; and sisters, Mary Brown of Barberton and Julia Zcuba of Hemet, Calif.

Ruth Bannerman
WOOSTER -- Ruth Bannerman, 91, 707 Hamilton St., died Monday, Jan. 18, at her residence after a long illness. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at West Salem United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Martha L. Mathatas and Beryl Baum officiating. Burial will be at Mohican Church of the Brethren Cemetery, West Salem. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster. Memorial contributions may be made to West Salem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 266, West Salem 44287. She was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Cleveland to Franklin H. and Ada M. (Thompson) Conway and married George D. Bannerman on April 23, 1934 in Brooklyn. He died June 10, 1987. Surviving are children and their spouses, David L. and Patricia Bannerman of Strongsville, William M. and Karla A. Bannerman and Joyce M. and Gary R. Pope, all of West Salem and Joan C. and Carroll L. Reed of Wooster; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Renker of Dearfield, Fla.

Timothy Sullivan
WOOSTER -- Timothy G. Sullivan, 43, formerly of Wooster, died Sunday, Jan. 17, in Mount Vernon, after an apparent heart attack. A prayer service will be Saturday at 8 a.m. at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., Norwood, Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9 a.m. at St. Catherine Church in Norwood, Mass. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Norwood, Mass. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Gillooly Funeral Home. Local arrangements were handled by Custer Funeral Home, Wooster. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 4916 Hills & Dales Road, Canton 44707. Surviving are his parents, Timothy F. and Anne (Knowlton) Sulliva Sr.; brothers, Timothy F. Sullivan Jr. of Franklin, Mass., and Christopher Sullivan of Sheffield, Mass.; a sister, Ann Marie Moomey of Mansfield; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his fiancee, Susan McCaffery of Mount Vernon.

SMITHVILLE -- Royal E. Lantz, 80, 446 Northeast St., died Monday, Jan. 18, at his home. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Smithville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Allen Bevere officiating. Burial will be at Smithville Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Smithville American Legion. Friends may call tonight (Wednesday) from 7-9 at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County; Smithville United Methodist Church Music Department; or St. Paul's Lutheran Church Building Fund. He was born Jan. 14, 1919 in Pulaski, Iowa, to Monroe and Mary (Amstutz) Lantz and married Helen Gusew on Oct. 6, 1945. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and their wives, Royal E. and Wendy Lantz Jr. of DeBarry, Fla., Richard A. and Linda Lantz of South Lake, Texas and Tom and Carol Lantz of Smithville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Lantz of Pinole, Calif., Fred and wife, Linda Lantz of Clyde and Robert and wife, Carol Lantz of Canton; and sisters, Pauline Busson of Doylestown and Genevieve Moffett of Wooster.

Sherman Sampson Sr.
BARBERTON -- Sherman J. Sampson Sr., 61, of Barberton, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, W.Va., where friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Rev. Danny Whited will officiate. Burial will be at Rick Falls Cemetery. Local calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home in Barberton. Surviving are children, Sherman J. Sampson Jr. and Pamela Sampson Giffin, both of Marshallville, Steven F. Sampson of Orrville and Sherry Sampson Plank of Bristol, Ind.; and 12 grandchildren, with whom he had enjoyed spending time. Sherman has many brothers and sisters.

CANTEYVILLE, Ky. -- Violet (Howell) Douglas Mong, 76, of Canteyville, Ky., formerly of Wooster, died Sunday, Jan. 10. Services and burial were held Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Kentucky. Surviving are her husband, John Mong; children, Ellsworth Douglas Jr. and Rebecca Newsom, both of Morgantown, Ky., John H. Douglas of Puyallup, Wash., and Deborah Stelmazsak, of Oregon, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

APPLE CREEK -- Fannie J. (Weaver) Miller, 77, 7941 Kidron Road, died early this morning (Thursday), Jan. 21, at the home of her son in Apple Creek, after an extended illness. Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Wayne H. Miller residence, 4126 Kohler Road, Apple Creek, with Bishop Ray J. Coblentz officiating. Burial will be at Hershberger Cemetery, Paint Township, Wayne County. Friends may call anytime at the Wayne H. Miller residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements. LOUDONVILLE -- Nora Margaret Cline, 80, formerly of South Market Street, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 19, at Colonial Manor, after a long illness. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the Rev. Howard Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. He was born Jan. 14, 1927 in Elkhart, Ind., to Perry and Helen (Goble) Hostetler and married Carolyn Wilcox on Jan. 12, 1947. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Wayne E. Hostetler of Tyler, Texas, Mark S. and Brian J. Hostetler of St. Louis, Mo., and Karl D. Hostetler of Lincoln Neb.; seven grandchildren; a brother, James Hostetler of Naples, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. L. Paul (Mary Ellen) Miller of Elkhart, Ind.
