Elsie Cain Morgan

Elsie Cain Morgan, of Dayton, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 83.
Born February 1, 1916, in Dayton, Mrs. Morgan lived in Dayton all her life in the Kelly Hollow Community. She was a homemaker by trade and a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and LaVada Towery Cain; husband, Jack Morgan; sons, James and Jackie Morgan; sisters, Bessie Cain and Eva Glanville; and brother, Earl Cain.
Survivors include her sisters, Rose Arnold of Dayton, Irene Glanville of Finksburg, Md., and Jennie V. Hill of White Marsh, Md.; brothers, James Cain of Battle Creek, Mich., and Bill Cain of Cloverdale, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, May 26, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Bart Slikker officiating. Burial will follow in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Mettie Ruth Hodge

Mettie Ruth Hodge, of Sale Creek, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at her home. She was 73.
Born December 13, 1925, in Rhea County, she lived in Sale Creek most of her life. She was retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery Company in Dayton and was a member of Sale Creek Church of God.
Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jay and Laura Elizabeth Manis Calbaugh; sister, Ruby Walker; brothers, Jay and Jackie Calbaugh; and granddaughter, April Johnene Hodge.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Carl Hodge of Sale Creek; daughters, Nadine McKinney of Richmond, Va., Mary Garrison of Dayton, and Vickie Stout of Graysville; sons, Carl Jay (Bud) Hodge of Soddy-Daisy, Johnny Mac Hodge of Graysville, Kenneth Hodge of Sale Creek, and Richard (Ricky) Hodge of Sale Creek; sisters, Edna Thomas, Edith Hancock and Gladys Watson, all of Dayton; brothers, Gene Calbaugh of Spring City, and Donnie and Earl Calbaugh, both of Dayton; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 3, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Bolton officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
George W. Shattles
Died: 5/23/99
George W. Shattles, of Spring City, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. He was 54.
A lifelong resident of Spring City, Mr. Shattles was the son of the late Charles and Minnie Craighead Shattles. He graduated in 1964 from Spring City High School and was a member of the Smoky Mountain Antique Tractor and Engine Association. He retired in 1998 after 25 years of employment at La-Z-Boy Chair Company in Dayton. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Spring City.
Mr. Shattles was preceded in death by his brothers, Olin Paul and Raymond Shattles.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Moore Shattles of Spring City; son, Brent Shattles of Spring City; sisters, Mary Coffey of Athens and Mildred Lee Jones of Olive Branch, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 25, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Denzel Brown officiating. Burial was in Spring City Cemetery. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.
Cecilia Marie Robles-Pavon

Cecilia Marie Robles-Pavon, of Chattanooga, died June 6, 1999, at Erlanger Medical Center, on her day of birth.
Survivors include her parents, Roberto Robles-Pavon and Jami Lea Maxwell of Chattanooga; grandparents, William and Ellen Dodrill of Dayton, Juan Robles and Maria delapaz Pavon of Mexico; Barry Maxwell of Newport, Vt.; great-grandparents, Victor and Berdena Maxwell of Newport, Vt., Ann Barnes of Chattanooga, and Bernard and Vernah Dodrill of Sale Creek.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, June 10, in Babyland in Rhea Memory Gardens with Rev. Richard Young officiating. Burial followed the service. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Marion W. Clark

Marion W. Clark, 86, of Spring City, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at Rhea Medical Center.
Born in Rhea County, he was the son of the late Van Buren and Bertha Porter Clark. He lived in Chattanooga for many years where he was a machinist with 3-M Corp. until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard, Paul Edgar and Richard Clark, and sister, Lydia Marshall.
Survivors include a sister, Lela Baker of Spring City; three brothers, Earl Clark of Dayton, J.C. Clark of Mt. Clemons, Mich., and Wilburn Clark of Newport Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 31, 1998 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Minister Pat Kirkland and Minister James McCord officiating. Burial followed the services in Porter Cemetery. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of arrangements.
Orpha B. Burke

Orpha B. Burke, of Battle Creek Mich., died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Heartland Care Facility in Battle Creek. She was 83.
A homemaker for most of her life, Burke was a member of Glad Tiding Assembly and enjoyed her flower gardening, music and her family. Burke was the daughter of the late Earl and Lydia (Chadwick) Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Burke; two sons, Loren E. Burke and Gary Paul Burke; two daughters, Alma D. Burke and Lillie Mae Hueckel; two brothers, Jessie and William Wilson, and one great-grandson.
Services were conducted Wednesday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek, with burial following in Reece Cemetery. Royal Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Connie Mack Burton

Connie Mack Burton, of Indian Springs, Ala., died Thursday, June 10, 1999. He was 56.
Mr. Burton was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Scott Burton. He was employed by Globe Life Insurance.
Survivors include his mother and father, Dollie and Alvin Burton of Dayton; his wife, Charlotte Burton of Indian Springs, Ala.; son, Jonathan Mack Burton of Indian Springs, Ala.; daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Burton of Indian Springs, Ala.; grandson, Wesley Scott Burton; sister, Becky Bishop of Dayton; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 13, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Purser and Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Lona Keylon

Lona Keylon, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Keylon was a member of First Baptist Church in Dayton and was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Keylon; son, Robert (Bobbie) Keylon; and great-granddaughter, Kiseha Dalton.
Survivors include her sons, James Keylon of Dayton and Bernard (Gary) Keylon of Oak Ridge; daughter, Barbara Dotson of Dayton; sister, Geneva Davis of Nashville; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 14, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Lucile Rudd

Lucile Rudd, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 98.
Born April 9, 1901, in Peabody, Kan., she lived in Dayton since 1931.
Mrs. Rudd was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Dayton, having joined the church Oct. 4, 1931. At First Baptist Church, Mrs. Rudd participated actively in Sunday school and Women’s Missionary Society. For a while, she taught Gleaners Sunday School class.
Mrs. Rudd graduated from Olathe High School in Olathe, Kan. She received a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan. She also taught high school Spanish for three years.
Mrs. Rudd was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William W. and Fannie Catherine Skinner Searcy; husband, Dr. Judson A. Rudd in 1970; and her brother, Frank Judson Searcy.
Her husband was a former professor, treasurer and president of Bryan College in Dayton. Bryan College’s Rudd Memorial Chapel was built in memory of Dr. Rudd.
At Bryan College, Mrs. Rudd assisted in various ways as a secretary, counselor and dietitian in food service.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Frances Carlson of Knoxville; one niece and several cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 15, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. J. Milton Knox, Dr. Kenneth Hanna, and Dr. William Brown officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Jo Kincannon Sanders

Betty Jo Kincannon Sanders, of Dayton, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at her home. She was 69.
Mrs. Sanders was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Scarbrough.
Survivors include her husband, Dallas Sanders of Dayton; daughter, Carol Sanders of Atlanta; sisters, Maxine Good, Barbara Walker and Linda Kincannon, all of Dayton, and Ann Saladin of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Hooper (Buddy) Kincannon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 14, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. J.B. Morris officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
