Mitchell
Funeral services for Milton Lee Mitchell, 71, of Rockdale were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Thorndale with Elder Melvin Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Mitchell, a retired farmer, died March 12 in Rockdale.
He was born Sept. 17, 1929 in LaGrange.
Survivors are a son, Milton Mitchell Jr. of Clover, New Mexico; two daughters, Joyce Mitchell of Clover, NM, and Earnestine Mitchell of Lubbock; a special friend, Rosie Watkins; three brothers, Elder Melvin Mitchell of Lancaster, Calvin Mitchell of Thorndale and Lois Ray Mitchell of Rockdale; two sisters, Evangelist Freddie Jones and Rev. Doris Hargers, both of Rockdale; two aunts, Andrew Jackson of Taylor and Willie Grant of San Antonio; an uncle, L.D. Shelton of Fort Worth; also, 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Calvin Mitchell Jr., Steven Mitchell, Deron Clay, Roderick Mitchell, Curtis Ware and Tyrone Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers were Milton Mitchell, Lois Ray Mitchell, Hal Muegge, Clifford Griffith and Calvin Mitchell.

Williams
Funeral services for Doris Marie Williams, 77, of Rockdale, formerly of Oceanside, CA, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville with interment following at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born June 12, 1923 in Milam County to Joe Gallen Aldridge and Addie (Hanks) Aldridge. She and her husband, Fred J. Williams, owned and managed motels and a mobile home park for over 25 years. Mr. Williams preceded her in death on March 23, 2000. They were married over 55 years.
Surviving are: Sons, Robert "Scotty" Williams and wife Barbara and Hernando "Bill" Bockman; two granddaughters, Susie Weiner and husband, Randy and Joanie Bristol and husband, Pat; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Nichol, and twins, Aaron and Sage; three brothers and three sisters, along with many other relatives and friends.

Jackson
HOUSTON – A memorial service for Eva E. Jackson, 94, of Houston was held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, in her home congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Houston. Bro. Cecil King conducted the service.
Mrs. Jackson died March 14 in Baytown.
She was born May 26, 1906, in Milam County to Daniel and Katy Woolverton.
She moved to Houston in the mid-1940s and became an evangelizer and Bible educator as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.L. Jackson, and her only child, Ray L. Jackson, as well as three brothers.
Survivors are four sisters, Mary O. Longoria of Baytown; Lola Connally of Round Rock; Lila Hood of Rockdale and J.D. Woolverton of Rockdale; also, many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Simmons
Graveside services for Arthur D. "Art" Simmons, 71, of Lampasas were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, in the IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Simmons died Friday, March 16, in Killeen.
A resident of Lampasas since 1996, he was born April 25, 1929, in Sharp to Dorvan Simmons and Maydell (Campbell) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for 50 years, including the hauling of heavy equipment and gravel during the construction of Interstate 35.
He is survived by a companion, Gaynell Edmundson of Lampasas; two sons, Billy Simmons and wife Vickie of Liberty Hill and Ronny Simmons and wife Kathy of Bartlett; a daughter, Theresa Tuel and husband Kevin of Bartlett; a brother, Harvey Simmons and wife Doris of Austin; also, 10 grandchildren.

Batte
Funeral services for Billye Batte, 92, of Rockdale, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2001, in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. Rev. Calvin Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel Church officiated.
Mrs. Batte died Wednesday, March 14 in a Rockdale nursing home.
A resident of Rockdale for the past 10 years, she lived most of her life in the Cameron area.
She was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Granger to Louie D. and Zettie R. (Newman) Cummings. She married R.L. Batte Jr. on July 19, 1948, in Thorndale. Mrs. Batte was a waitress in Cameron and Temple, a homemaker and a rancher with her husband. She was a World War II veteran, serving in the WACS for two years, and she was a "Pink Lady" volunteer in the Cameron Hospital. Her hobbies included bowling and riding in horse shows and trail rides.
She was preceded in death by her husband in November 1968; a daughter, Viola Joyce Conoley; a brother, Jack Cummings; and her parents.
Survivors are a stepson, Bobby Batte of Cameron; a stepdaughter, Pat Batte of Cameron; three brothers, Royce Cummings of Kingston, Oklahoma, Robert Cummings of Allen and Frank Cummings of Georgetown; four sisters, Bertie Wilson of Rockdale, Ida Hickman of Pflugerville, Ina Cartwright of Texas City and Merle Williams of Georgetown; also, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Bob Cummings, Leroy Bowling and Ed Magre.

Ledger
Graveside funeral services for Ricky Ledger, 47, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale, with Minister Leonard Driskell of the Murray Street Church of Christ officiating.
A resident of Okmulgee for the past four years, Mr. Ledger died March 14 in a Tulsa, Oklahoma, hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1953, in Temple to Fred and Barbara Fletcher Ledger. Raised in Groves, he lived most of his adult life in Oklahoma. He was a 1972 graduate of Port Neches Groves High School. Mr. Ledger was a butcher for retail groceries.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Ledger.
Survivors are his mother, Barbara Ledger of Groves; a son Jeffrey Ledger of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; two daughters, Tina Lietka and husband Joe, and Angie Pollard, all of Okmulgee; three sisters, Brenda Judice and husband Larry of Bridge City; Freddie Robinson and husband J.W. of Groves, and Robin Cooper and husband Charles of Groves; also, two grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Frioux, Daron Benoit, Troy Cropper, Brandon Cropper, Ty Cropper and Joe Lietka.

Clements
CAMERON – Funeral services for Florence Kolba Clements, 98, of Cameron were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Glen Jones and John Ash officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Clements died Friday in a Temple hospital.
A retired homemaker, she was born April 30, 1902, to Frank and Frances Schiller Kolba. She was a member of the Crockett Street Church of Christ.
Mrs. Clements was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Wallace Clements, in 1976; three brothers, William Kolba, Ed Kolba and Frank Kolba; and two sisters, Emma Marak and Frances Sneed.
Survivors are a son, Robert Monroe Clements of Houston; a daughter, Ann Terry of Temple; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
