Allan J. Dobbs
Allan J. Dobbs of Two Rivers died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his home. He was 62.
Mr. Dobbs was born April 19, 1941, in Rhinelander the son of Charles and Amanda (nee Kriesel) Dobbs. He graduated from Three Lakes High School and attended UW-Superior for two years.
He married Betty Lou Frayer Oct. 1, 1962, in Three Lakes. The couple moved to Two Rivers and he worked for various auto dealers before being employed for 27 years by the Two Rivers School District. He retired in 2001.
He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the Two Rivers Lions Club, and was an avid baseball fan who followed the Milwaukee Brewers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Jr. and Ken; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ramona and Charles Schiman.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert of Two Rivers; his mother-in-law, Mildred Frayer of Phelps; Muriel Dobbs of Eagle River; Judy (Harold) Johnson of Conover; Mary (Roy) Norman of Covington, Mich.; Bucky (April) Frayer and Art Frayer, all of Phelps; and one granddaughter.
He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held July 2 at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. The Rev. Louis Sievert officiated.
Burial was at Forest View Cemetery in Two Rivers.

Lucille 'Lu' Howell
Lucille “Lu” Howell of St. Germain died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at her home. She was 82.
Mrs. Howell was born April 14, 1921, in North Chicago, Ill. She lived in Highland Park, Ill., until moving to St. Germain in 1977.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby, in 1984.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Hruska of St. Germain, Barbara (William) Heidorn of North Lake, Ill., and Mary (Brian) Tarpey of Highland Park, Ill.; one brother, Frank Grabinski of Eagle River; one sister, Mildred Inman of Waukegan, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sayner. The Rev. Michael Hayden officiated.
Burial will be in St. Germain Cemetery in St. Germain.

Esther Janik
Esther Janik of Rhinelander, formerly of Spruce, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Taylor Park in Rhinelander. She was 91.
Mrs. Janik was born May 12, 1912, in Lena, the daughter of Andrew and Andrea (nee Mortinson) Bogsted. After living in the Kelly Brook area for many years, she married Edward Janik and moved to Spruce, where they farmed and ran a family cabinet business before moving to Eagle River in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed, in May of 1975; a daughter, Vivian, in 2002; three sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include one son, Duane (Faye) of Lena; a son-in-law, Carl Brandt of Eagle River; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 7 at Jones Funeral Home in Oconto Falls. The Rev. Mara Theno officiated.
Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Maple Valley.

Betty Jane Kimbell Lamon
Betty Jane Kimbell Lamon, a longtime resident of Three Lakes, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Eagle River Memorial Hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Lamon was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to Elsie and Frank John Kimbell. While on an annual visit to Three Lakes with her family, she met John Lamon Sr., at the Northernaire's Showboat.
She and her husband were the owners and operators of Watercraft Sales in Three Lakes from 1959 to 1979.
She was active with the Women's Club and the Three Lakes Historical Society and her hobbies included travel, music and indoor gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Richard (Martha) Kimbell; and a grandson.
Survivors include one son, John (Noreen) Lamon Jr. of Three Lakes; two daughters, Carol Lamon (Steve Dennis) of Three Lakes and Marianne (Jim) Crawford of Australia; one brother, Jack (Jewel) Grant Kimbell of Wilmette, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Inurnment was held following a private family remembrance.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Three Lakes Historical Society.

James A. Radelet
James A. Radelet of Eagle River died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at home. He was 76.
Mr. Radelet was born June 6, 1927, in Waukesha and lived there until he moved to Eagle River in 1985.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
He was the former owner of The Mint Bar in Eagle River and was a car salesman for Don Jacobs Buick for many years. He was also as avid Packers fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in 1993.
Survivors include a daughter, Anna (Bill) McGrath of Winchester, Mass.; a son, Charles (Paulette) of Statesboro, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 8 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Trosien officiating.
Inurnment will be in Alpha Crematory.

Leon A. DeBeleyr
Leon A. DeBeleyr of St. Germain died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at his home. He was 93.
Mr. DeBeleyr was born May 22, 1910, in St. Paul, Belgium, the son of Peter and Emma (nee Audeneart) DeBeleyr.
He married Alice Verbiest June 17, 1933, in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. DeBeleyr served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Indiana BB58 and attended all reunions of the ship's crew.
He was an active member of American Legion Post 318 in Lake Tomahawk and VFW Post 3854 in Skokie, Ill. He was also involved with the Sayner/St. Germain Wildlife Club, PrimeTimers and the St. Germain Lake Association.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years; and nieces, nephews and cousins in Europe.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Woodruff.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15, at Bolger Funeral Home-Woodruff Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m.
Burial with military rites will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Woodruff.

Judy Dolk
Judy Dolk of Eagle River and Miramar, Fla., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. She was 48.
Mrs. Dolk was born Nov. 28, 1954, in Wisconsin. While residing in Eagle River, she worked at BJ's Cafe and Grill and Donna's Cafe. Her hobbies included bike riding and fishing and she was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Eagle River.
Survivors include her mother, JoAnn Lonn of Calif.; one daughter, Candace of Miramar, Fla.; one son, Ryan of Lake Worth, Fla.; two sisters, Cheryl Bortolotti of Brookfield and Kathy of Calif.; two brothers, Rock Lonn of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Brian Beach of Honolulu, Hawaii; and one grandson.
She is further survived by Jessie Bortolotti of Eagle River, her niece and goddaughter.
A private memorial service was held.
Inurnment was in Alpha Crematory.

Lois Erickson
Lois Erickson, formerly of Port Edwards, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the home of Theresa and Mark Ortscheid in Wisconsin Rapids. She was 63.
Mrs. Erickson was born April 25, 1940, in Mather, the daughter of Harry and Laura (nee Griffin) Mitchell.
She married Robert Erickson Feb. 25, 1967. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1967.
A registered cosmetologist for 43 years, Mrs. Erickson owned Kut and Kurl in Nekoosa for 17 years as well as a beauty shop in Land O' Lakes. She also worked in Eagle River and Port Edwards.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Caroline Reed.
Survivors include one brother, Harry Mitchell of Pembine; one nephew; one niece; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
She is further survived by relatives on the Erickson side of the family.
A funeral service was held July 11 at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. Kim Roberts officiated.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa.

Hilda S. Kujanpaa
Hilda S. Kujanpaa of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Phelps, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. She was 96.
Mrs. Kujanpaa was born Oct. 3, 1906, in Mohawk, Mich., the daughter of Abraham and Lisa (nee Takalokastari) Sallmen. Her family moved to Phelps in 1911, where she lived until 1960.
She was a member of the Finnish American Society of the Midwest and Chicago Metro Seniors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix, and a son, Vernie.
Survivors include a son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Agnes; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren, all of Chicago.
A graveside service will be held at Phelps Cemetery Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Kim Beckmann of Trinity Lutheran Church of Iron River, Mich., will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Eleanor Ellis Public Library in Phelps.

Howard Mathesius
Howard Lehman Mathesius of St. Germain died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. He was 82.
Mr. Mathesius was born Jan. 8, 1921 in Earlville, Ill., and graduated from Earlville High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II.
He married Mary Elizabeth Keller Dec. 30, 1946, and worked for Paw Paw Township and Caterpillar in Illinois, and Charles Vogel Enterprises in St. Germain.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his mother, Esther Lehman Behrens; his father, Anton Mathesius; stepfather, the Rev. Otto Behrens; brother-in-law, Harry Keller Jr.; and sister-in-law, Rita Edwards.
Survivors include his brother, Donald (Shirley) of Roselle, Ill.; four sisters, Ruth Ann (Monte) DuVal of Phoenix, Ariz., Pearl Iverson of DeKalb, Ill., Betty (Frank) Gaude of Cameron, Calif., and Nancy (Gene) McMaster of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother-in-law, Gene (Norma) Keller of Vernon, Fla.; sister-in-law Lois Keller of Earlville, Ill.; and 12 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Community United Church of Christ in St. Germain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seasons of Life Hospice House, P.O. Box 770, Woodruff, WI, 54568.

Joanne Splon
Joanne Splon of Eagle River, formerly of Hinsdale, Ill., died Monday, July 14, 2003. She was 65.
She was born Dec. 23, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of C. Edward and Yvonne Smith.
After a long career teaching preschool, she became a limousine owner/operator for American Limousine in LaGrange, Ill.
Mrs. Splon moved to Eagle River in 1985 and for many years operated a limousine and taxi service in the area.
Survivors include one daughter, Teri (Tom) Turner; three sons, Mike, Chip (Sue) and Scott (Donna); three sisters, Sue Wayne, Kathy Marr and Cindy Starzyk; one brother, Steve Smith; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, at 4 p.m. at Bolger-Nimsgern Funeral Home in Eagle River. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

Bill Steiner
Bill Steiner of Conover died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at his home. He was 98.
Mr. Steiner was born May 4, 1905, in Beloit.
A resident of Conover since the early 1930s, he owned and operated Steiner's Tamarack Resort for many years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann, in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (nee O'Gara); one daughter, Wilma Winfield ; and one son, Les, all of Conover; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held.
Inurnment took place at Alpha Crematory in Eagle River.

Frances A. Benson
Frances A. Benson, a longtime resident of Phelps, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Valhaven Nursing Home in Neenah. She was 86.
Mrs. Benson was born Aug. 4, 1916, in Sturgeon Bay.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and was active at Phelps Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Patsy Ehmann of Houston, Texas; a sister, Louise Ray of Bergland; and a brother, George Wiericks of Conover.
Survivors include a son, Donald (Donna) of Neenah; a sister, Anna (Bill) Oerichbauer; and two brothers, Louis (Harriet) and James; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Twin Lakes Bible Church in Phelps. Visitation will precede the service from 1 to 3 p.m.

Clair M. Dunberg
Clair M. Dunberg of Conover died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Eagle River Memorial Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Dunberg was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Rockford, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Formerly of Rockford, he was a resident of Conover for the last 11 years and was a member of the Conover Lions Club.
He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Mark of Conover and Scott of Arbor Vitae; and three grandchildren.
A private family service was held.
Inurnment took place at Alpha Crematory in Eagle River.
