A. Dean Yeager

A. Dean Yeager, 77, of Tulsa, Okla., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, in Tulsa, Okla.

He was a native of the Montana community, son of the late Vester G. and Pairlie Tipton Yeager, 1951 graduate of Hartman High School, 1959 graduate of the University of the Ozarks with a B.A. in history, served in the U.S. Army in France, taught social studies and choral music at Clarksville High School and Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School before retiring in 1993 after teaching 33 years, Broken Arrow’s teacher of the year in 1975, involved in local, state and national education associations, past president of South Tulsa County Retired Teachers, choir director and organist for First Baptist Church of Clarksville, Community Baptist Church in Tulsa and Verdigris United Methodist Church in Claremore, recently elected to the UofO Alumni Board and was preceded in death by two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two sons, Stephen Yeager of Claremore, Okla., and Joel Hurley and wife, Danika, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one brother, Gene Yeager and wife, Barbara, of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Bryant Yeager of Crowley, Texas, and Elisabeth and Connor Hurley of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two nephews, Kevin and Kendall Yeager; and one sister-in-law, Suzanne King.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, in the Asbury United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions can be made to University of the Ozarks, 415 N. College Ave., Clarksville, AR 72830 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Anna Rebecca Laughrey

Anna Rebecca Laughrey, 81, of Lamar died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

She was born in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of Donald R. and Leona May Gray Laughrey, Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer, former Girl Scout leader, and retired teacher.

Survivors include two daughters, India Lee Lenard of Lamar and Luana Lee Ikler of California; one son, Reese Frederick Fernandez and wife, Christene, of California; one brother, Larry Laughrey and wife, Edna, of Colorado; grandchildren, Ilona Lee Davidson, Glen Edwards Selfridge, Lisa Fernandez, Reese Fernandez, Briana Ikler, and Dalton Ikler; and great-grandchildren, Madison Lee Davidson and Macie Davidson.

Crematory arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, 1100 Poplar Street, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Jamie Ray Durham

Jamie Ray Carson Durham, 72, of Clarksville, died Thursday, Nov. 18, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

She was a native of Sheridan, employee of Walmart, daughter of the late William and Lizzie Ward Carson; and preceded in death by her husband, John C. Durham; one brother, Jessie Carson and one sister, Ester Benson.

She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Wright of White Hall, Mary Vonadore of Hot Springs and Henrietta Carol Sullivan of Sheridan; two sons, Bobby Gene Beck of Morrilton and Charlie Randall Beck of Plumerville; three sisters, Ethel Masters and Fannie Crutchfield of Sheridan and Elsie Hawkins of White Hall; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at Heber Springs cemetery in Heber Springs with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.

Pallbearers were Nathan Ward, Jason Beck, Charlie Beck, Jobie Thompson, Larry Wright and Kent Addison.

Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Lonnie Lee Cummins

Lonnie Lee Cummins, 62, of Sentinel, Okla., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, in Sentinel, Okla.

He was a native of Sayre, Okla., son of the late James and Myrtle Rhodes Cummins, attended school in Sayre, Okla., and Kibler, former resident of Yuba City, Calif., member of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War, salesman and trader, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Rumbo and Chuck Cummins; and two sisters, Prudy Cummins and Nippy Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Turner Cummins; three daughters, Denise Casey and husband, Brandon, of Dill City, Okla., Darlene Harris and husband, Tommy, and Charlene Boyd and husband, Chad, all of Rocky, Okla. four sons, Lester Cummins and wife, Melissa, of Alma, David Cummins and wife, Anita, of Amarillo, Texas, Samuel Fields and wife, Alisha, of Ozone, Benjamin Houge and wife, Shari, of Carter, Okla.; one sister, Linda Ashley and husband, Jessie, of Mountainburg; one brother, Wyvon Ritches and wife, Brenda, of Reddings, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Peters cemetery in Alma with Rev. Carl Sory officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home in Sentinel, Okla.

Mary Evelyn Massengill

Mary Evelyn Massengill, 88, died at Clarksville Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010.

She was the last survivor of three couples who built their own “photo trailers” and traveled the state during the late 1930s making photographs. A collection of these photographs has been made into an exhibit currently at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lance W. Massengill, and a daughter, Gail Young.

She is survived by two sons, Warren Massengill of Little Rock and Norman Massengill and wife, Robin, of Russellville; one daughter, Sondra McKelvey, and husband, Richard, of Clarksville; one brother, Eugene Ritter of Conord; one sister, Floy Brent of Belton, Mo.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Cremation Association of Arkansas.

Noel Lee Rusin

Noel Lee Rusin, 40, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, in a Fort Smith hospital.

He was a native of Santa Monica, Calif., and grandson of the late Basil Brock of Clarksville.

Survivors include his father, Bruce Rusin of California; mother, Jo Anne Escamilla of California; grandparent, Frances Brock of Clarksville; two sisters, Allisa Stayner and Trisha Escamilla, both of California; three brothers, James Rusin, Heath Rusin, and Shane Escamilla; aunt, Lisa Toth of Fort Smith; and uncles, Kenneth Rusin of Fort Smith and Dale Rusin of California.

Crematory arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Wilson D. Williams

Wilson D. Williams, 93, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, in a local hospice center.

He was a native of Coal Hill, served in the U.S. Navy from 1935-39 on the USS Utah, reenlisted in 1944 and served on the USS Lavaca until the end of World War II, former Sears Roebuck employee for 32 years and was preceded in death by his wife, Regina.

He is survived by one son Frederick Leland Williams of Carrollton, Texas; one daughter, Phyllis Hearn of Mars Hill, N.C.; one grandson Michael Clotfelter of Bella Vista; one great-grandson Preston Clotfelter; and one sister, Janis Woods of Clarksville.

Funeral services were at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with Rev. Louis Dewett officiating. Burial and Navy honors were at the Fort Smith National cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darrell Weathers, Steve Weathers, Jim Hill, Al Caldwell, Rick Moore and Mike Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Woods, Roger Redden, John Holloway, Don Yates, Bob Weathers, Hal Farnsworth, Thurman Moore and Mike Moore.

Donations may be made to Peachtree Hospice, 2910 Jenny Lind Bldg. 4, Ft. Smith, AR 72901 or an organization of one’s choice.

Tyler Davenport

Tyler Davenport, 16, a junior at Lamar High School and son of Mark and Tina Davenport, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Alice Marie Raburn

Alice Marie Burton Raburn, 69, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Athens, Tenn., daughter of the late Earl and Ellen Goodman Burton, widow of Hershel Raburn, retired housekeeper supervisor, member of West Side Full Gospel Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Mark Raburn; and two sisters, Evelyn Martin and Angline Hicks.

She is survived by three sons and spouses, Danny and Dian Raburn of Coal Hill, David and Lisa Raburn of Clarksville, and James and Karen Raburn of Knoxville; two sisters, Jewel L. Pressley of Decatur, Tenn., and Marlene Pallas of Athens, Tenn.; three brothers, Kenneth Burton and Billy Burton, both of Athens, Tenn., and Charles Burton of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at West Side Full Gospel Church with Rev. J.W. McEntyre officiating.

Burial was at Oakland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Harold Dixon, Devo Ramsey, Leonard Kimbrel, Larry Martin, Sam Combs, and Gwen Woods.

Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
