Stephen Wayne Bass

Stephen Wayne Bass, 49, of Lamar died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in Clarksville.
He was born in Burbank, Calif.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Deborah L. Bass; one daughter, Charlene Stone of Dallas, Texas; one son, Travis Bass of Dallas, Texas; one stepdaughter, Tasha James of Lamar; three stepsons, David Harris of Clarksville and Joey Harris and Jamie Harris, both of Lamar; parents, Clinton and Patricia Bass of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; one sister, Julie Outune of Vermont; one brother, Chris Bass of Paso Robles, Calif.; and one grandchild.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shirley Upton

Mrs. Shirley Upton, 84, of Clarksville died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at her home.
She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church, native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Preston and Clara Ellen Pitts Hinson, and widow of Paul Upton.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Upton of Clarksville and Gary Upton of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Howell officiating. Burial was in Stillwell cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robby Upton, Cris Upton, Bruce Upton, Greg Buckner, Jeff Jones, and Tim Oakes.

Augusta D. Chaney

Augusta Dixie Chaney, 70, of Clarksville died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
A native of the Harmony Community, she was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, daughter of the late Denver Houston, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, and was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Engbretson; and one brother, James Laster Houston.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Matney of Ozark, Mo.; one son, Ronald Greer of Strafford, Mo.; mother, Berta Houston of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Ronald Ray Greer III and Jacob Michael Greer, both of Strafford, Mo., Tiffany Matney and Jennifer Gray; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Gray.
Graveside services and burial were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Antioch cemetery in Pittsburg, Mo., with Cleveland Matney officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Doretha Lashlee

Doretha C. Lashlee, 77, of Coal Hill died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Clarksville.
She was a native of Coal Hill, daughter of the late Joseph and Katy O'Brien Hanson, and a farm laborer.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence D. Lashlee; one daughter, Sharon Lashlee of the home; one son, Shelden Lashlee of Coal Hill; one sister, Reba Nagel of Coal Hill; one brother, John Henry Hanson of California; and two grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Coal Hill Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Kindrix officiating.
Burial was in Hess cemetery at Coal Hill under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Walt, Chris and Bret Nagel, Bill Richards, Eugene Scarberry and Dewey Bradley.

Harold H. Pitts

Harold H. Pitts, 80, of Clarksville died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired glass glazier, Air Force veteran of World War II, member of the Woodland Baptist Church, son of the late Charles and Sylvia Lund Pitts, and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty June Pitts.
He is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Dunn of Hot Springs, Betty Hays of Mesa, Ariz., and Wanda Stutzman of Cloudland, Ga.; two sons, Wayne Pitts of London and Dean Pitts of Van Buren; one sister, Verna Dunagan of Arizona; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Mike Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in Lamar cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Brown, Walter Nowotny, Jerry Scoggins, Gene Faulkner, Mark Nowotny, and David Gilliam.

JoAnne E. Moritz

JoAnne Ernestine Moritz, 74, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, in Clarksville.
She was a native of Los Angeles, Calif., and daughter of the late Ernest Dewey and Iona Harrington Moore Nichols.
She is survived by two daughters, Robin Moritz of Fresno, Calif., and Rena Moritz of Visalia, Calif.; two sons, Regie Moritz of Bakersfield, Calif., and Rod Moritz of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Gloria Bickley of Colorado; three grandchildren, Jason Dixon, Jared Fischer and Justin Moritz, all of California; and one niece, Susan Gildard of California.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Clemmons officiating.
Memorials may be made to Needy Paws, 1100 East Main Street, Clarksville, AR 72830.

James E. Sears

James Elbert Sears, 67, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was a native of Ozone, son of the late George and Gennie Case Sears, retired mechanic, and was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Sears.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Tamara and Todd Joyner of Clarksville and Teresa Horras of Little Rock; one son, Craig Sears of Clarksville; three sisters, Olive Smedley of Springdale, Annabelle Moore of Oklahoma, and Nora Meeker of Arizona; four brothers, John Sears of Clarksville, Charles Sears of Hartman, and Tommy Sears and Lee Sears, both of Mountain View; four grandchildren, C. J. Sears, Chenoa Douster, Nathan Bostwick and wife, Mecca, and Michael Joyner and wife, Christy; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ashley Joyner, Haley Douster, and Boan and Malachi Bostwick.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Hedgeway Church with Todd Joyner officiating.
Burial was in Mount Vernon cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Frankie Sears, Carl Baker, Donnie Carroll, Floyd Joyner, Carl Sears and Leonard Kimbriel.

Lynda L. Fuss

Lynda Lucille Fuss, 76, of Clarksville died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Los Angeles, Calif., daughter of the late William Earl and Lucille Picco McKinney, widow of Raymond H. Fuss, member of Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Jonathon Earl Fuss.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kelley Ray and Jade Fuss of Clarksville; one sister, Dariel McKinney of Gardena, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Sandy McKinney of Grants Pass, Ore.; and several cousins.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall Church. The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
