Bertha Holman

Bertha Adela Schlafke Holman, 87, of Clarksville died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, daughter of the late Charles and Caroline Drittler Schlafke and widow of Perry Sims Holman.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Caldwell of Lamar, Wilma Middleton of Springdale and Shirley Hutchins and Carolyn Goodin, both of Clarksville; three sons, Lloyd Lee Holman of Coos Bay, Ore., and Larry Holman and Dennis Holman, both of Clarksville; one brother, Charles Schlafke; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Crossroads Assembly of God Church with Rev. Edward Birdsong and Rev. Mario Gonzoles officiating.
Burial will be in Holman cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be James Smith, Brian Goodin, Tony Holman, Bobby Caldwell, Shawn Thompson, and Larry Wayne Holman Jr.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Senior Activity Center, 1421 Oakland Street, Clarksville, AR 72830.

Freada Lee Utnage

Freada Lee Utnage, 65, of Pensacola, Fla., formerly of Clarksville, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006.
She was a daughter of the late S. J. and Mattie Southern and a native of McAlester, Okla.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, William Utnage; two sons, William (Joni) Utnage Jr. of Champagne, Ill., and Aaron W. (Christy) Utnage of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Trina L. (Justin) Stokes of Fletcher, N. C.; three granddaughters, Brittney, Amber and Bailey; and two step-grandchildren, D. J. and Robin.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Barrancas National cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Faith Chapel Funeral Home of Cantonment, Fla.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society

James Mashburn III

James Lee (Scooter) Mashburn III, 1, of Lamar died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at his home.
Survivors include his parents, James Lee Mashburn Jr. and Loni Marie Gabbard Mashburn of Lamar; grandparents, Lonnie and Dorothy Gabbard of Lamar and Michael and Melissa Mead of Atkins; great-grandparents, Mary Irene Freeman of Dover and Elsie Charlene Dodge of Clarksville; and uncles and aunts, Jeffrey and Brandy Dixon of Lamar, Luke and Andrea Hylton of Altus, Eric Mead, Nicole Mead, and Charles Mead of Atkins.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Roller-Cox Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry Anthony officiating. Burial was in Hartman cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Howard Millsap, Michael Sam Mead, Lucas Zachariah Hylton, and Jeffrey Dee Dixon.

James B. Smith

James B. (Red) Smith, 75, of Tulsa, Okla., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at his home.
A native of Ozone, he was a son of the late B. Andy and Lillie Mae Seyfert Smith, attended school at Redlick, served in the Korean War, was employed by Rainbo Baking Company as an operating engineer for 30 years prior to being employed by Tulsa Junior College as an operating engineer until his retirement in 1993. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Mae Bramel and Emma Faye Freeman.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Ruth Dobbs Smith; one daughter, Sharon Kaye Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Loyd Wayne Smith of Claremore, Okla.; three grandsons, Joshua Wayne Smith and Andrew Lee Smith, both of Claremore, Okla., and David Gene Smith of Roland, Okla.; two sisters, Annie Bean and Peggy Corlew; four brothers, Johnny Ray Smith, Donald Lee Smith, Andy Jack Smith, and Gary Joe Smith; and one stepbrother, Roland Davis.
Funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry, Okla., with Rev. Charles Rowden officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven cemetery at Sperry, Okla.
Pallbearers were David Jones, B. J. Smith, Mark Stamps, Graham Peebles, Philip Corlew, and Donald Glen Dobbs.

Leonard T. Arrington

Leonard Tom Arrington, 85, a long time resident of Clarksville, AR and most recent resident of Hope, AR died November 12, 2006.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Leonard and Lennie Bone Arrington, his twin brother, Carl Lee and sister-in-law, Nina.
After serving his country in World War II, he returned to Clarksville to help his father run his family business and attend The College of the Ozarks. After years of service to the Arkansas State Police at Clarksville he retired.
Leonard has been a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend who has been described as poised, dignified and stately. Those who knew him well experienced his great sense of style and sharp wit. There is no better example of Leonard's grace and wit than during his last several months of his life.
Leonard is survived by his niece, Malinda Arrington, Tulsa, Oklahoma, nephew, Jim Arrington, Glenwood, Arkansas.
Graveside services 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Oakland cemetery, Clarksville, AR by Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Visitation Wednesday, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
Minister: Rev. Rodney Steele.

Leo Wylie Curtis

Leo Wylie Curtis, 94, of Oran, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Johnson County, son of the late Jessie and Idella Breedlove Curtis, retired farmer, and was preceded in death by his wives, Newell Mary Michelson Curtis and Wilma Cousins McGowen Curtis; one son; two grandsons; six sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include one son, Clarence W. Curtis of Oran, Mo.; three daughters, Juanita Smith of Russellville, Cleda Neal of Oran, Mo., and Frieda DeWalsche of Port Byron, Ill.; one brother, Kenneth D. Curtis of McAlester, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Oct. 17 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, Mo., with Rev. Delbert Bishop officiating. Burial was in New Morley cemetery in New Morley, Mo.

Matthew E. Haynes

Matthew Everett Haynes, 47, of Scranton died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.
A native of Searcy, he was a carpenter, Baptist and was preceded in death by his mother, Nadine Stubbs Haynes.
He is survived by one son, Jonathan Matthew Haynes of Scranton; one daughter, Ashley Goin of Malvern; fiance, Alesa Boykin of Scranton; father and stepmother, George and Shirley Haynes of Scranton; two brothers, Roger Proper of Malvern and Douglas Haynes of Smithville; five sisters, Janie Hall of Paris, Memory Furr of Scranton, Connie Hilton of Fort Smith, Cecilia Richardson of Clarksville, and Gay Lynn Pitts of Lamar; and three grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob-Judsonia with burial in Shady Grove cemetery.
