Bob D. Grant

Bob D. Grant, 71, of Clarksville died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at his home.
He was a native of Franklin, N. C., son of the late Wade Leroy and Essie Dickins Grant, former resident of Ventura, Calif., qualified commercial construction superintendent for 55 years, recently employed by Nulyne in Knoxville, and was a carpenter and bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Faye M. Grant; one daughter, Debbie Stillwell and husband, Danny, of Clarksville; five sons, Bobby Blackston of Fayetteville, John Young Jr. and wife, Georgette, and Mike Young and wife, Robin, all of Clarksville, Martin Young and wife, Debbie, of Sherwood, and James Christopher Young and wife, Christian, of Nashville; 11 grandchildren, Jared, Kayla, Dusty, Cody, Tara, Blake and Christian Young, and Tinnika, Dusty, Samita and Kyla Faye Stillwell; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 10, at his home. The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Ervin Lee Moore

Ervin Lee Moore, 85, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.
A native of Catalpa, he was a son of the late Tess Lee and Stella Atkins Moore, retired farmer and sawmill employee, and preceded in death by one sister, Anzlene Moore Barnsley.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Opal Warren Moore; two daughters, Jenetta Haddick and husband, Ronnie, of Lavaca and Loretta Boling and husband, James, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two sons, Jerry Moore of Ozark and Larry Moore of Clarksville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Haddick, Mark Haddick, Chad Berkshire, Mike Dodge, Larry Moore, Jerry Moore, James Boling, Ronnie Haddick, Robert Moore, Megan Moore and Terry Dodge.

Lucy Petersen

Lucy Gertrude Petersen, 80, of Clarksville died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007.
She was a native of Nashville, Tenn., daughter of the late Robert E. and Zona Baker Kemper, nurses aide, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Kemper and Elvis Kemper.
Survivors include her husband, Jorgen (John) Petersen; two daughters, Sue Hill of Reno, Nev., and Karen Ammons of Clarksville; four sons, Charles Murff of Nashville, Tenn., John Petersen of Lamar, Robert Petersen of Cantonment, Fla., and Ronnie Petersen of Waynesboro, Miss.; four sisters, Margaret Fykes, Ruth Grandbois, Barbara Anderson and Margie Covington, all of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Robert Kemper Jr., Paul Kemper and James Kemper, all of Nashville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Roller-Cox Funeral Chapel with Bobby Kuonen officiating. Burial was in the Mount Vernon cemetery north of Clarksville.
Active pallbearers were Josh Petersen, Greg Ammons, Joe Basham, Ray Hill, William Fykes and Dale Grandbois.
All grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.

Robert S. Skidgel Sr.

Robert Samuel Skidgel Sr., 87, of Hartman died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at his home.
He was a native of the Goose Camp Community, son of the late Thomas Alexander and Ollie Kilcrease Skidgel, graduate of Spadra School, retired coal miner, member of the Fernwood Assembly of God Church and Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532, Navy veteran of World War II, and was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny Lee, Eugene Debs and Paul Douglas Skidgel; and two sisters, Parliee Morris and Patricia Maute.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Sue Pannell of Ozark; five sons, Sam Skidgel, Paul (Chub) Skidgel, Larry Skidgel and Mark Skidgel, all of Ozark, and Stanley Skidgel of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mary Jo Morgan of Ozark; two brothers, Thomas Skidgel Jr. of Clarksville and Charles Skidgel of the Goose Camp Community; three stepsons, Leroy Millikan of Hartman, James Millikan of Atkins, and Jay Millikan of Boxley; two stepdaughters, Mary Frances Hurley of Washington and Sharon Storms of Ozark; 14 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Fernwood Assembly of God Church with Rev. Eddie Birdsong officiating.
Burial was in Hartman cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Chuck Skidgel, Larry Skidgel, Bobby Skidgel, Dale Skidgel, Michael Gardner and Josh Tadlock.
Honorary pallbearers were Josh Millikan, Jason Millikan, Daniel Storms, William Streithorst, and all the men of the Fernwood Assembly of God Church.

Ruth Choate

Ruth Choate, 94, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in a Fort Smith nursing home.
A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late Lester and Mayme Blankenship Coats, widow of Charles Choate and a former teacher at Coal Hill.
Survivors include one sister, Doris Karr of Fort Smith; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Roy Dunavin officiating. Burial was in Srygley cemetery at Coal Hill.
Pallbearers were J. W. Cox, Travis Mills, Mark Williams, Joshua Bice, Charles Karr and John Lankford.
Memorials may be made to the West-Ark Church of Christ Library, 900 N. 50th, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Varnel A. King

Varnel A. (Dub) King of Clarksville, age 85, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 9th, 2007.
He was born in Ludwig, the son of Hubert and Nettie King on Aug. 5th, 1922. Dub was a 1940 graduate of Clarksville High School and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He volunteered for flying duty in World War II, serving as radio operator in C-46s and C-47s over the Himalayas in the China-Burma-India theater of operations.
He returned to Johnson County to earn a business degree from The College of the Ozarks. For 43 years, he was operations manager and later general manager of Eureka Brick and Tile. He retired in 1999 and remained active with his family, the church, his farm and his gardens. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Lola Brock and Ann Nichols, and by his daughter, Lisa.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vivian King; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Betty King of Clarkdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Lauren King of Tallahassee, Fla., and Scott King of Clarkdale, Ariz.; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 13th, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Airy cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Nichols, Rodney Nichols, Danny Nichols, John Frost, Bardy Helwig, Tom Pongratz, Ronnie Sexton, and Brad Johnson.

Gwendolyn M. Kemper

Gwendolyn M. Kemper, 75, of Fort Smith, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Sparks Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Spadra Community, daughter of the late John Morgan and Florence Hevron Morris, attended Clarksville High School, member of Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532, longtime resident of Houston, Texas, and was preceded in death by five brothers, Howell Morris, James Morris, Francis (Windy) Morris, Robert Morris, and John W. Morris; one sister, Mary Armstrong; and companion, Jerry Schaeffer.
She is survived by one sister, Wilma Hamilton of Fort Smith; four nieces, Annette Hilton, Mary Sears, and Ardith Morris, all of Clarksville, and Wanda Jewell Davis of Enid, Okla.; seven nephews, Don Morris of North Carolina, David Morris of Clarksville, Jimmy Morris of Conway, Stephen Morris of Lamar, Charles Ray Oxford of Sherwood, Robert Morris of Rogers, and John Morgan Morris of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Lera Morris of Clarksville and Betty Ruth Morris of Fort Smith; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with burial in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Oxford, Jeremy Oxford, John Sears, John Seidensticker, Don Morris, David Morris, Jimmy Morris, Stephen Morris, Charles Ray Oxford, Robert Morris, and John Morgan Morris.
