Anna Katherine Bailey

Anna Katherine Bailey, age 93, resident of Lockesburg, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005 in De Queen.

She was born Oct. 12, 1912 in Center Point to John and Rebecca Lipscomb; and was a member of Lockesburg Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Bailey; and two brothers, Brooks and J.W. Lipscomb.

She is survived by her sister, Louise Horridge of Dallas, Tex.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21 in Center Point cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Ruben Tollett

Ruben Tollett, age 92, of De Queen left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly father, on Monday, October 24, 2005. He was born September 24, 1913 in Lockesburg, Arkansas to Mark and Florence Harder Tollett. He was a farmer and rancher, was devoted to his family and friends, and a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Tollett was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Jessie Watson Tollett and Mildred Hill Tollett; one son, Mark Joseph Tollett; a sister, Katy Janes; five brothers, Grover, Lloyd, Robert, Edgar, and Rubert Tollett; one grandson, Paul Hanks; and one son-in-law, Jesse Power.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Loraine Sims of Houston, Texas, Barbara and Rodney Hanks of Morgan City, Louisiana, and Linda Power of De Queen, Arkansas; four sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Jean Tollett, Jimmie and RaJohnia Tollett, Lovell and Betty Tollett, and Glen Dale and Susie Tollett, all of De Queen; one brother, Truman Tollett of Lockesburg; 14 grandchildren, Becky Sims Himes, Shelly Sims Youngblood, Kelly Sims Economou, Doc Hanks, Barbara Hanks Forwards, Marvin Hanks, Theresa Hanks Fevrejean, Lucus Power, Marcus Power, Jason Tollett, Jennifer Tollett Graves, Terri Tollett Wilkerson, Julie Tollett, and Rance Tollett; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Tollett were held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Greens Chapel cemetery.

The family received friends Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Linda Power.

Horst Hans Frederich Kiepen

Horst Hans Frederich Kiepen, age 72, resident of De Queen, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.

He was born June 7, 1933 to Herman and Hilde Buchenau Kiepen in Hilden, Germany; was a retired Senior Medical Design Engineer in Sacramento, Calif., and invented the heart catheters for angioplasty; held five patents in medical research; and was a member of the Non-Denomination Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Margret Reuling Kiepen of De Queen; three daughters, Britta Bigelow and Carol Logan, both of De Queen, and Andrea Kiepen of Sacramento, Calif.; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in Chandler Funeral Home. Cremation followed.

Toby Cyr

Toby Cyr, 23, died suddenly Wednesday, November 9, 2005 after being a victim of a hit and run car accident in Winthrop, Ark.

Born in Albany, NY on June 1, 1982, Toby attended Shaker Junior High School in Latham, NY where he played lacrosse. He was a 2001 graduate of Watervliet High School where he excelled in wrestling and football. He was a recipient of a bronze metal in the 2000 Empire State Games in Binghampton, NY in the heavyweight division of Greco Roman wrestling and a gold medal winner in free style wrestling. He was a standout defensive tackle football player for the Watervliet High School Cannoneers where he was All-League and All-Area as a junior and senior. At the time, he was considered one of the strongest high school football players in the nation with a combined lift of 1465 pounds in the bench press, squat and deadlift. He was employed by his family at Ziggy's Sports Bar in Latham, NY and at the Lodge in East Greenbush, NY as a bartender and doorman. Since last November, Toby has lived in Winthrop, Ark. and was employed by Hess Lumber in Foreman, Ark. as a saw mill worker. Toby had a heart of gold and loved his family, his dogs, and his horses.

Toby is the beloved son of James E. and Nan Zyglewicz Romano of Watervliet, loving brother of Danielle Salzer of Latham, NY, Jessica Cyr, Tory Wade and Zeby Romano all of Watervliet, and the late Samantha Mae Romano, maternal grandson of David Zyglewicz of Key West, Fla. and Fran Zyglewicz of Latham, NY and Winthrop, Ark., great-grandson of Julia Zyglewicz of Watervliet, NY, paternal grandson of Don and Barb Romano of Averill Park, NY, great-grandson of Dorothy M. Davis of Colonies and great-nephew of Hilda M. Davis of Clifton Park, uncle of Alex Salzer of Latham, nephew of Shane and Sharon Zyglewicz of Latham, Jimmy and Kay Brewer of Longview, Texas, Johnny and Rhonda Brewer of Horatio, Ark., Tom and Becky Romano of Troy, Don and Mimi Romano of Watervliet, Jeff and Theresa Romano of Averill Park, Barbara Ann Romano of Cohoes and Marie Romano of Watervliet, and a multitude of friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2005 in the Winthrop Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Steiner and Rev. Fred Smith officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial was at Watervliet, NY.

Visitation started at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2005.

Sanford L. Hooker, Sr.

Sanford L. Hooker Sr., age 80, resident of De Queen, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 in De Queen Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 15, 1925 at Amity to Thomas Julian and Ida Wilson Hooker; was a U.S. Army First Calvary veteran of World War II; a heavy equipment operator; a cattle and poultry rancher; and a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and Sweet Home Masonic Lodge, where he served as Past Master. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Jean Blevins.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Juanita Horne Hooker of De Queen; one son, Sanford "Sandy" Hooker Jr. of Wellston, Okla.; one daughter, Anita Gaunt of Dansville, Mich.; one brother, Wilson Hooker of Pecos, Tex.; one sister, Ima Kelly of Hope; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in Mt. Ida cemetery with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the funeral home.

Stephen Lyn Harwood

Stephen Lyn Harwood, age 33, resident of Smithville, Okla., died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005.

He was born July 24, 1972 at Mena. He was preceded in death by a son, Albert Daniel Harwood; and a brother, Steven Harwood.

He is survived by his wife, Rosabelle Marie Stinson Harwood of Smithville; two daughters, Tiffany Harwood and Bonnie Harwood, both of Smithville; his mother and stepfather, Linda and Frankie Creekmore; three brothers, Mike Harwood of Finley, Okla., Brandon Cline of Honobia, Okla., Rosco Cline of Watson, Okla., four sisters, Rhonda Young of Siloam Springs, Eugina Butler of Antlers, Okla., Cristy Johnston of Rover, Trana Onstah of Frogville, Okla.; two adopted sisters, Nina Bailey and Bessie Bailey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Chapel Hill cemetery, De Queen, with Bro. Riley Donica officiating, under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Mrs. Elba Wright Skelton

Mrs. Elba Wright Skelton, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born in King, Arkansas to William Oren and Mamie Lee Shrum Wright. She was a former owner of the De Queen Frozen Food Locker and was an employee of the Soil Conservation Service. She was a member of the First Christian Church in De Queen, where she served on the board, was Sunday school secretary, music director, was the organist and pianist and had perfect attendance for 47 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Skelton in 1978; a son, Steve Skelton in 2000; two sisters, Faye Wright and Blanche Poole; and two brothers, Carl Wright and Roy Wright.

She is survived by one sister, Madge Millwee of De Queen, Ark.; one grandson and his wife, James "Chip" and Christy Skelton of Berryville, Ark.; one daughter-in-law, Olivia Skelton Humphreys of Lockesburg, Ark.; one great-granddaughter, Hayley Elizabeth Skelton; and six nieces, including Paula Millwee Butler, Melinda Millwee Shumaker and Margaret Wright Daniels.

Funeral services for Mrs. Skelton were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Doris officiating. Burial followed in the Redmen cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Henry Clay Autrey Jr. "Junior"

Henry Clay Autrey Jr. "Junior", age 83, of Big Oak Flat, Calif., died October 26, 2005.

He was born December 31, 1921 in De Queen.

He is survived by his wife Betty Autrey of Big Oak Flat, Calif.; three sons, Terry Autrey, Gustine, Calif., Ranny Autrey, Sparks, Nev., and Danny Autrey, Turlock, Calif.; two daughters, Donna Jean Vierra, Turlock, Calif., and Denell Massey, Orangevale, Calif.; three step-daughters, Pam Jenkins and Denise Brooks, both of Groveland, Calif and Shelley Bundy of Orangevale, Calif.; two sisters, Eloise Yettman of Turlock, Calif. and Ellaveese Craig of De Queen.

Other family members include, Roy Autrey, Broken Bow, Okla., Lawrence Bell, Pauline Penny, Martha Craig Brewer, of De Queen, Henry L. Craig, of Michigan, Chester J. Craig, of Nashville, Tenn. and many extended family members.

Mr. Autrey was a resident of Big Oak Flat for 34 years; and lived in Turlock, Calif. in the 1950's and '60's. He was a carpenter, a member of Yosemite Lodge #97, Big Oak Rebekah Lodge, Navota Moose #2041, VFW #1537, Pile Drivers #34, and American Legion #300.

Junior and Betty would return to his beloved Arkansas often to deer hunt with a favorite cousin Ray Westbrooks.

His humor, wit, love of family and large caring arms will be greatly missed.

Visitation was held Tuesday, November 1, 2005 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Heuton Memorial Chapel. Funeral services followed at 2:00 p.m. at Groveland Evangelical Free Church.
