Patsy Ann Bell Hall

Patsy Ann Bell Hall, age 77, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, March 28, 2014 in the Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born October 24, 1936 in De Queen. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Emma Autry Bell; her husband, Lawrence R. Hall; and a son, Steve Hall.

She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Butler and Christy V. Ligon and husband, Jerry; her grandchildren, Brian Butler and wife Alyssa, Chelsi Gathright and husband, Justin; Charles R. Ligon and wife Lindsey, and Jerry Don (J.D.) Ligon, II; her great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kaylee Butler, Steele Gathright, and Jameson Gray Ligon; and a sister, Pauline Penney, all of De Queen.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Hall will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in the Redmen Cemetery with Duane Alspaw and Jerry Ligon officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Kenneth Culp

Kenneth Culp, age 79, a retired rancher of De Queen, went to meet his Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at his home. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for over four years with a fierce independent strength that made him who he was.

Born November 27, 1934, in the Chapel Hill community near De Queen, he was the son of James and Alice Billingsley Culp. He lived most of his life in this community where he raised cattle and had a custom hay business.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Culp, three sisters, Inell McClanahan, Madge Dunn and Melba Van Voast, two brothers, Harley Culp and Jim Culp, his children’s mother, Betty Culp and a life-long friend, Arlis Smith.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Culp of 21 years and Prissy, a guardian angel; five children and spouses: Liz and Charlie Howell of Searcy, AR, Vicki and Bob Keener of Texarkana, Teresa Brewer of De Queen, AR, James and Simone Culp of Texarkana, and Lori and Jimmy Bristow of Redwater, TX; two step-sons: Scott and Pamela McRae of Quitman, AR and Chad and Marla McRae of Bentonville, AR; and one sister, Roxa Casteel of Newcastle, TX; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dustin and Ginger Howell of Searcy, AR, Brooke Smith of Redfield, AR, Blaire and Kelly Harp of De Queen, AR, Audrey and Drew Chandler of Texarkana, Matt and Amanda Brewer of Horatio, AR, Mark and Lexie Brewer of Ashdown, AR, Jayme Bristow and Jared Bristow of Redwater, TX; five step grandchildren: Matthew McRae, Michael McRae, Anna Grace McRae, Gracen McRae and Brock McRae; eleven great-grandchildren, Hayden Harp, Laney Smith, McKenzie Smith, Halle Harp, Griffin Chandler, Addison Chandler, Hannah Howell, Emmeline Howell, Weston Brewer, Jack Howell and Wyatt Brewer and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors and friends.

He was a Christian who was baptized later in his life on November 23, 2003. He loved the Lord and considered himself to be very blessed. He was a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen.

As a member of the Professional Cowboys of America, he was a strong competitor in bull riding until 1959 when he was injured in Lufkin, Texas, and that ended his career in bull riding. He still enjoyed watching it on TV and said that he wished he was able to ride again.

Walker dogs were one of his passions. He owned Dogtown Kennels in De Queen. He won two Oklahoma State Field Trial Championships and the Arkansas Open Field Trial Championship. He was featured three times on the cover of The Hunter’s Horn, a publication about professional walker running dogs. He raised pups and sold them throughout the United States.

He loved gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends. Other passions of his were hunting with his best friend, Arlis Smith, and fishing with his buddy, Calvin Pitchford. Nothing made him as happy as being out on the lake. He said “he was untangling his mind.” He described his life as, “I have had a good ride.” He was especially proud of his children and taught them to be good citizens with strong morals and work ethics.

Funeral services for Mr. Culp will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014, in the First Baptist Church in De Queen with Lyndon Fenton and Charles Ligon officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are his grandsons: Dustin Howell, Matt Brewer, Mark Alan Brewer, Jayme Bristow, Jared Bristow and Hayden Harp. Honorary Pallbearers are: Tommy Rudisill, Wayne McCarrell, Keith McKinney, Billy Willis and Calvin Pitchford.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27th at the funeral home.

Jerry Don Smith

Jerry Don Smith, age 53, a resident of De Queen, died Saturday, March 15th at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was born to Don and Flora Smith in De Queen, Arkansas on November 28, 1960. He is survived by his parents, Don and Flora Smith of Story, Arkansas, and a brother Roger Smith of North Pole, Alaska. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Vicky Dee Smith.

Jerry graduated from Walla Walla Adventist University with a BS, and was a building contractor. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking and was a member of the Beacon Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29th in the Beacon Hill Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Red Bridge Road in De Queen, Arkansas.

Amanda Rae Moore

Amanda Rae Moore, age 33, a resident of Fayetteville, AR and a former resident of Dierks, AR, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Fayetteville.

Amanda is the daughter of Terry and Julia Moore and was born January 16, 1981 and was a member of the church of Christ.

A celebration of Amanda’s life will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Dierks Church of Christ with Floyd Clark, Lance Lowrey and Trey Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the Dierks Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25th at the Dierks Church of Christ.

Amanda was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Charles Moore and Ordis Roberson and a beloved cousin, Shane Moore.

She is survived by her loving parents Terry and Julia Moore, a sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Lance Lowrey, her nephew, Lucas Lowrey, her grandmothers Mary Moore and Annie Roberson, her uncle and his wife Mike and Teresa Moore, an aunt and her husband Coleen and Floyd Clark and cousins Todd and Kelly Moore, Trey and Carmen Clark, Leah Lovelis and Lauren Clark.

Amanda graduated from Dierks High School in 1999 where she was valedictorian. She graduated from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR, the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, AR and University of Missouri at Kansas City Law School. She was a partner in the Bassett Law Firm LLP from 2007-2014 before taking a position with Roger’s Food Group in 2014.

She was an avid Razorback fan. She took an active part in the following: EOA Children’s Home, and Peace at Home Family Shelter. Organizations that she was a member of were the Arkansas Bar Association, Frank’s Book Club, Bunco, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, and the Turkey Hill Social Club.

Amanda will be remembered as a bright and shining star, for her big smile, her bubbling personality, her humor, and her ability to light up any room she entered. She could take control of almost any situation and accomplish, with great success, any assignment given. She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. Amanda did not have any children but adored her nephew, Lucas and her two Corgis, Tess and Audrey.

A memorial service will also be held on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at 2:00 PM. in the Pauline Whitaker Center, 1335 W. Knapp, Fayetteville, AR.

Steven Shulz

Steven Roger Shulz, age 53, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, March 19th at his home.

He was born to Marvin Roger and Barbara Mae Long Shulz in Gillham, Arkansas on June 6, 1960. He had served in the military with the U.S Marines. he was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, and was a construction worker. Me enjoyed fishing and being out of doors.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents and his grandfather, Dan Long.

He is survived by his grandmother, Angie long of De Queen and a number of cousins.

Memorial services for Mr. Steven Shulz will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25th in the Brookewood Nursing & Rehab. Private burial will be in Redmen Cemetery.

Michael Wayne Davignon

Michael Wayne Davignon was born April 23rd 1963 in Dallas, TX. He fought a brief, but very brave battle with lung cancer. On March 22nd 2014, he was welcomed into heaven by his beloved parents, Paul & Betty Davignon, and his beloved savior & Lord Jesus Christ.

Michael was a mechanic and truck driver. He loved the outdoors and spent time hunting, fishing and enjoying nature.

He is survived by his wife Sonya, two children, Michael Davignon and Kelly Davignon, three step children, Hope, Nick & Clay, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Steve Burcham and Linda and David Steward; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Cynthia Davignon; one grandchild, four step grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 24th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, AR. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday March 28th at the Masonic Lodge in Lockesburg, AR from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

Carl Henry Skidmore

Carl Henry Skidmore, age 89, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1924, in Scotland, Arkansas. He was a machinist for Weyerhaeuser, a farmer, a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church and was a Mason. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Skidmore was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Dora Campbell Skidmore, a granddaughter, Stephanie Skidmore and a number of brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Godwin Skidmore; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Charlotte Skidmore of De Queen, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Jimmy Barfield of Texarkana, Arkansas and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in Mt. Ida Cemetery with Randy Davis officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 24th at the funeral home.

Charlotte Ann Shock

Charlotte Ann Shock, age 72, of De Queen, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

She was born August 11, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee to Eugene and Jewell Beard Reynolds. She was a painter, member of First Assembly of God in De Queen. Her passion was her family and she was a great mom.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Cynthia Lee Johnston; one granddaughter, Jasmine Jade Johnston and one brother, David Lee Reynolds.

She is survived by James Shock of De Queen; one daughter, Mitzy Jean Swilley of Raymond, MS; two sons, Michael Dennis Pruitt and Russell Dale Shock, both of De Queen, AR; one sister, Sybil Canon of Senatobia, MS; three brothers, Eugene Reynolds of Brandon, MS, Tommy Reynolds of Ocean Springs, MS and Rev. Joe Reynolds of Maredian, MS. Charlotte will be missed by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the First Assembly of God Church in De Queen with Rev. Ray Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25th at the funeral home.
