Willard Hooper I am a Veteran.
December 10, 1930 - February 23, 2016

Willard T. Hooper, age 85, of Yocana, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on Wednesday, December 10, 1930 to Wayne Willie and Eliza Lott Hooper in Opal, Arkansas.

Willard served his country proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954. Willard worked for and retired from the maintenance department at the Polk County Housing Authority. He was a member of the Yocana Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and water skiing and listening to bluegrass music at the Turkey Track at Waldron. Willard was a member of the VFW and the Mena Elks Lodge. Willard was a loving companion, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Glenna Hooper; three brothers, Raymond Hooper, Kenneth Hooper, and Jake Hooper; one sister, Elvagene Hooper.

Willard is survived by his loving companion, Reba Stanfield of Mena; two sons and daughters in law, Ben and Johnnie Hooper of Little Rock and Rayland and Connie Hooper of Brookhaven, Mississippi; two step sons and daughters in law, Cecil and Misty McMellon of Mena and Archie and Jessica McMellon of Mena; two step daughters and son in law, Mina and Ron Anderle of Mena and Cindy Hill of Mena; one brother and sister in law, Harold and Norma Hooper of Benton, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Andrew Hooper and Crystal Hooper of Little Rock and Christopher Hooper of Brookhaven, Mississippi; four step grandchildren, Zachary Anderle , Cooper Anderle, Adileigh McMellon and Kaytlynn Parkin all of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 A.M. at the Concord Baptist Church in Ink with Brother Donnie Jewell and Lynn Chiles officiating. Internment will follow in the Concord Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Friday, February 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Zach Anderle, Jason Hooper, Ron Anderle, Tracy Hooper, Raymond Falls, Doug Nursery, Wayne McMillian, and Charles Escobar.

Desta Clarita Swope
September 7, 1944 - February 17, 2016

Desta Clarita Swope, age 71, of Mena, died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs. She was born on Thursday, September 7, 1944 to Francis and Louella Fishback Logsdon Canton, Missouri.

Desta loved life and enjoyed the outdoors working in her flower beds. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Desta attended and was a member of Grace Bible Church. She loved watching Nascar and loved to watch Mark Martin race. She was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. Desta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Desta is survived by her husband, Bill Swope of Mena; two sons and daughters in law, Chris and Rachael Espy of Kansas City, Missouri and Ronald and JoAnna Provinge of Springfield, Missouri; three step daughters, Peggy, Dana and Billie Jo; three brothers, Carroll Logsdon and Floyd Logsdon both of Kansas City, Kansas and Fred Logsdon of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Dee Logsdon of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Isaac Espy, Alyson Espy and Damon Provinge; ten step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 5:30 P.M. at Grace Bible Church in Mena with Dr. Lamar Austin officiating. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

V. Joyce Beam
January 14, 1936 - February 18, 2016

V. Joyce Beam, age 80, of Mena, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Tuesday, January 14, 1936 to Albert Clay and Neva Yocham Brown in Isabella, Missouri.

Joyce loved life and enjoyed the outdoors working in her flower beds. Joyce had a servant’s heart and showed it for 33 years as an elementary school teacher in Little Rock, Siloam Springs and the last 22 years in Mena Public Schools and retired in 1996. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce attended First United Methodist Church in Mena for many years. Some of her hobbies included doing jigsaw puzzles, reading and collecting owls. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Claude Brown and Walter Brown; three sisters, Eileen Holt, Mary Ruth Richey and Wilma Cooper.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bill Beam of Mena; one son and daughter in law, Randy and Cynthia Martin of Mena; her daughter and son in law, Janna and Christian Cochran of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother and sister in law, Carl and Nancy Brown of Lead Hill, Arkansas; three sisters and brother in law, Georgia Beason of Marshfield, Missouri, Madge Kennemer of Seymour, Missouri and Charlotte and Richard Bisson of Gramham, New Hampshire; one brother in law, Larry Cooper of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Quinn Cochran and Reece Cochran both of Kansas City, Missouri; three step grandchildren, Kaitlyn Schoeppey and T.J. Schoeppey both of Mena and Andrew Schoeppey of Corpus Christi, Texas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lead Hill First Baptist Church in Lead Hill, Arkansas. Interment will follow in the Milum Cemetery in Lead Hill under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 4-6 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Jerry Lynn Standridge
March 24, 1954 - February 13, 2016

Jerry Lynn Standridge, age 61, of Mena, died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at his home in Mena. He was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1954 to John Lee and Lula Mae Lewis Standridge in Mena, Arkansas.

Jerry enjoyed life and lived every day the way he wanted to. He loved his family and spending time with them and his friends. He lived 60 years in California and just moved back to Mena to spend time with his family. He enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing games of chance. Jerry was a loving, brother, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Darla Standridge.

Jerry is survived by two brothers, Ronald Standridge and Robert Standridge both of Mena; two sisters, Sarah Weber and Brenda Wilson and husband, Gene all of Mena; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Kristie, Melissa, Leilani, Jennifer, Desiree, John, Shannon, April, and J.C.; several great nieces and nephews, Sarah, James, Carrie, Timothy, Dane, Kendyl, Orion, Hannah, Kaden, Jeremiah, Kory, Kristopher, Dylan and Kamiyah; one great-great niece, Angelica; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hillside Cemetery at Sulphur Springs, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Clifford Royal Tharp
April 20, 1934 - February 13, 2016

Clifford Royal Tharp, age 81, of Nunley, died Saturday, February 13, 2016 at his home in Nunley. He was born on Friday, April 20, 1934 to William Royal and Cora Laffin Tharp in Story, Oklahoma.

Clifford was an honest man with integrity and could be counted on by everyone. He loved his family and was an avid OU fan. He was a Mason for many years. He enjoyed golfing and traveling. Clifford worked 40 years in the oil fields and was Vice President of Ham and Phillips for many years. Clifford was a loving, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice Tharp; one daughter, Belinda Rae Tharp and one sister, Billie Sue Goleman.

Clifford is survived by his wife, Levada Tharp of Nunley; a daughter, Kimberly Woods of Cushing, Oklahoma and stepdaughter, Lisa Pemberton of Chapell Hill, Texas; one brother, Glen Ray Tharp of Norman, Oklahoma; two sisters, Lavita Burkland of Daggett, Michigan and Maxine Mann of Noble, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. A second visitation will be Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the B G Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma under the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Patricia Joann Moore
December 2, 1949 - February 19, 2016

Patricia Joann Moore, age 66, of Mena, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Friday, December 2, 1949 to David and Alice Meeks in Modesto, California.

Patricia Worked for 10 years as a door greeter at the Mena Wal-Mart. She loved to sew and crochet and spent a lot of time making things for other people. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching old movies especially one starring Shirley Temple. Patricia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Steven Moore.

Patricia is survived by her three sons and daughters in law, Nathan and Brittney Moore, Dwayne and Charlene Moore and Daniel Sponsel all of Mena; two daughters and son in law, Carrie and Kevin Kesterson and Amanda Sponsel and Brian Harvey all of Mena; one brother, Joseph Meeks of Modesto, California; two sisters, Deana Meeks and Shelia Meeks both of Modesto, California; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

No services are planned at this time with cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
