Sonia Enriquez Decasez
August 30, 1982 - October 12, 2016

Sonia Enriquez Decasez, age 34, of Wickes, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 near Wickes. She was born on Monday, August 30, 1982 to Javier Jose Enriquez and Maria Jesus Perez in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Sonia loved life and enjoyed spending time with her children who were her greatest accomplishments in life. She enjoyed Cumbia dancing and listening to all different kinds of music, from hip hop to mariachi bands. She enjoyed cooking, some of her family’s favorite dishes included enchiladas and rice. Sonia was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Sonia is survived by her husband, Jacinto Decasez of Wickes, Arkansas; four sons, Misael Enriquez of DeQueen, Arkansas, Victor Enriquez of Wickes, Arkansas, Hugo Silva of Wickes, Arkansas, and Joaquin Ambriz of Wickes, Arkansas; two daughters, Nyla Decasez and Yiana Decasez both of Wickes, Arkansas; her father, Javier Enriquez of Chicago, Illinois; her mother, Maria Perez of Horatio, Arkansas; four brothers, Adrian Parra of Horatio, Arkansas, Rene Enriquez of Mexico, Aaron Lerma of Horatio, Arkansas, and Alex Enriquez of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Mariam Enriquez of Chicago, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 1-3 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. After the funeral service Sonia will be sent for cremation under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home.

Travis Barney Anderson Jr.
March 1, 1948 - October 9, 2016

Travis Barney Anderson Jr., age 68, of Hatfield, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born on Monday, March 1, 1948 to Travis Barney and Vonetha Summit Anderson in Yocana, Arkansas.

Travis was a man enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing dominoes and hanging out with his friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and going fishing. Travis was a loving, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Travis is survived by his son and daughter in law, Jammey and Rhonda Anderson of Acorn; his daughter and son in law, Regina and Scott Webb of Smithville; special friend, Edna Crawford of Mena; three brothers, Joel Anderson of Cove, Allon Anderson of Zafra, Oklahoma and Jerry Anderson and wife Debbie Anderson of Hatfield; one sister, Judy Cox of Mt. Ida; grandchildren, Christopher Webb, Frankie Webb and Joleana Webb, Cody Anderson, Tyler Anderson and Makayla Anderson; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial potluck will be Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Polk County Housing Authority Community Room in Mena across from Mena High School and all family and friends are invited. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Doyle Carter
August 26, 1939 - September 15, 2016

Doyle Carter, age 77, of Cherry Hill, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home. He was born on Saturday, August 26, 1939 to Lee Roy and Lona Bell Monks Carter in Shady Point, Oklahoma.

Doyle served his country proudly in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. After the service, he became a skilled truck driver; however, he spent most of his life in the operation of heavy construction equipment. In 1982, Doyle started his own excavation business in the Dallas area called Doyle Carter Excavation, Inc. He worked day and night building much of today’s existing Dallas home sites. In 1989, Doyle and his wife Lillian moved to Cherry Hill for retirement. Doyle enjoyed the country life: raising cattle, plowing gardens, fishing and growing beautiful fruit trees. He also enjoyed talking to people and could make anyone smile. Doyle was a loving, compassionate husband, Daddy, Pawpaw, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Frank Carter, and one sister, Sylvia Carter.

Doyle is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lillian Carter of Cherry Hill; his son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Doris Carter of Mena; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberley and John David of Wylie, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Oertli of Mena and Betty Schuler of Abilene, Texas; six grandchildren, Aaron Carter, Kyle Carter, Krystal Carter, Kacey Carter, John Carter David and Thomas David; eight great-grandchildren, Carter and Peyton Quillin, Addie Carter, Ryker Carter, Lillie and Kailee Carter, Blake Carter and Payten Raeber; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Ray McGregor officiating. Interment will follow at the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Cherry Hill under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 2-5 P.M.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Carter, Aaron Carter, Kyle Carter, John David, John Carter David and Thomas David.

Herman "Gene" Eugene Wenzel
August 30, 1939 - April 27, 2016

Herman 'Gene' Eugene Wenzel, age 76, of Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home in Mena. He was born on Wednesday, August 30, 1939 to Herman Harold and Eunice Bessie Rhodes Wenzel in Nashville, Tennessee.

Gene was a graduate of North Little Rock High School Class of 1957 and enjoyed going to his class reunions. Gene served in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged. He also served his church for many years in the First United Methodist Church in Mena as an usher and a trustee. Gene greatest passion in life was serving as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America for 58 years. He enjoyed every aspect of scouting and taking the boys on their yearly float trip to the Buffalo and White Rivers. He retired from Rockwell International as an Electrical Engineer for 37 years before retiring to Mena. He was involved in the Republican Party hosting the Mr. Rockefeller when he came to Mena to speak. He enjoyed his HAM Radio. Gene was known for his generous spirit, integrity, honesty, dependability, steadfast personality, and above all his love for the Lord and his love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene is survived by his wife of 43 years, Johnnie Wenzel of Mena; his sons, Brad Wenzel of Dallas, Texas, Wayne Fletcher of Irving, Texas and Gene Fletcher of Billings, Montana; his daughter, Juanell Montoya of Kerens, Texas; one sister, Carol Smith of Great Bend, Kansas; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, eight nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Gene�s life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Mena. Cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene�s memory can be made to First United Methodist Church at 501 9th Street, Mena, AR 71953 or Caddo Area Council - Boy Scouts of America, 24 Lynnwood Drive, Texarkana, Texas, 75503.

Verna E. Cunningham
December 28, 1925 - June 7, 2016

Verna E. Cunningham, age 90, of Mena, died Tuesday June 7, 2016 at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab. She was born on Monday, December 28, 1925 to Zenith and Susie Isabel Purdue Patten in Half Way, Missouri.

Verna was a lady of integrity and honesty and lived her life as a Christian. She always saw the good in people and helping them when they were in need and never met a stranger. Verna loved her family and loved spending time with them. She took great pride in her sons and was proud of each of them. She enjoyed raising Iris� and wildflowers in her flower beds. Some of Verna�s hobbies was making stuff from anything left over and turn it into a treasure. Also she enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking. Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dee Cunningham, one grandson, Vester Parks II.

Verna is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Ves and Donna Parks of Mena, Ernal and Tena Cunningham of Mena and Jeff and Phyllis Cunningham of Mena; one brother, Curtis Patten and wife, Shirley of Medon, Tennessee; two sisters, Dola Head of Mena and Della Davis of Mena; four special young people in her life, Jean Ann, Greg, Linda and Sue; thirteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Tim Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Dallas Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Slade Cunningham, Brandon Cunningham, Nick Cunningham, Chris Anderson, Mike Parks, Mark Willingham and Jim Davis.

Kay Louise Patterson
July 10, 1940 - April 22, 2016

Kay Louise Patterson, age 75, of Mena, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Mena Manor. She was born on Wednesday, July 10, 1940 to Lonnie Don and Marie Marguerite Wilson Schaffroth in Kearney, Nebraska.

Kay loved life and enjoyed going dancing, crocheting, and reading. She loved her family and spending time with her family. Kay worked over 20 years at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth as an Enterostomal Therapist and retired in 1995 and moved to Mena.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Shirley Harmon.

Kay is survived by her husband, Arnold Patterson of Mena; one son, Brian Patterson of Burleson, one daughter, Brenda Patterson of Grapevine, Texas; one brother, Lonnie Schaffroth of Scottsdale, Arizona; one sister, Patricia Smith of Callaway, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Corinne, Chelsea, Ashton, Brack and Emma; one great grandchild, Clara; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10305.
