Ruby Ingle Smith Lipovsek

Ruby Ingle Smith Lipovsek, 93, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. She was born in Gurdon, Arkansas on June 12, 1911, daughter of the late Thomas T. Ingle and Josie Davis. She was the widow of Eldred Smith of Camden and Rudy Lipovsek of Los Angeles, California. She was also a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. While Ruby was not free to choose the moment and place of her death, she was given the opportunity to choose her destination. She is now at home with our Lord.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth H. Smith and wife Patricia of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Kenneth Smith, II and wife Lynda of Greenwood, Keith Smith of Benton, Stephen Smith and wife Shannon and two great grandchildren in Little Rock, and two great grandchildren in the Fort Smith area.

Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2005 in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Ed Simpson. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Camden Memorial Park, 759 Maul Rd.

In lieu of flowers memorials should may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1901 N. Pierce, Little Rock, 72207 or your favorite charity.

William Faulkner McCombs Hardy

William McCombs Hardy, Sr. age 90, formerly of Little Rock, died January 14, 2005. He was born in Little Rock later graduating from The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, before graduating Suma Cum Laude from Princeton University, with a B.S. in Geology. After school he joined the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II. After the war he began his career as an independent consulting geologist in the oil and gas industry, having done extensive work in Tennessee and Kentucky while residing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was marriage to Francis Scarborough Hardy who died in 1966. Mr. Hardy was a Presbyterian and a past member of Rotary Club International.

He is survived by his present wife, whom he marriage in 1970, Phynis Laneita Stewart Hardy of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, two sons; William McCombs Hardy, Jr. and wife Victoria of Miramar, Florida, Mosley Wilson Hardy, II and wife Leslie of Charlotte, North Carolina, and 4 grandchildren; William Christopher and John Paul Hardy, and John W. and Jenna Shirey.

There will be a graveside service Wednesday afternoon at 2pm at Roselawn Cemetery officiated by Reverend Ann Russ. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Frances O'Kelley Johnson

Frances O'Kelley Johnson, aged 93, of Little Rock, died February 15, 2005, in Paducah, Kentucky. She was the widow of Dr. Glenn H. Johnson, Sr., who died in 1967, and she was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, in Little Rock. She was born January 16, 1912, in Columbus, Georgia.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one son, Glenn H. Johnson, Jr. Survivors are two sons, Dr. J. Jeff Johnson and wife Suellen, of Paducah, Kentucky, and Kelley D. Johnson and wife Jan of Little Rock, and daughter-in-law Fayrene Johnson also of Little Rock, one sister, Mrs. Helen O. Hunt of Greenville, South Carolina, six grandchildren, Cynthia J. Hill and husband Ricky of Carlisle, Arkansas, John J. Johnson III, Dr. Polly J. LeBuhn and husband Carl of Paducah, Kentucky, Jennifer Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee, David D. Johnson of Louisville, Kentucky, and Cory G. Johnson and wife Stephanie, of Little Rock, and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home followed Friday with a graveside funeral service at 11am at Roselawn Cemetery officiated by Reverend Steve Hancock. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church of Little Rock.

Nell Davis Frost

Nell Davis Frost, 107, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2005, having lived a full life covering three centuries. She was born on December 27, 1897, in Dardanelle, Arkansas to Susan Lorenna and Emmet Lee Davis. She began teaching school at age 18 in Lonoke, met and marriage Herbert George Frost on June 29, 1922, and moved to Little Rock.

Nell returned to school and earned her college degree at age 5 1 from State Teachers College in Conway in 1948. She continued teaching until retirement at age 65. She remained active in education, receiving the 1999 VIPS Resource Award at age 101. In addition, in 2003 at age 106, she received the Hall of Honor Award from Dardanelle High School recognizing her work in the community and in education.

Besides teaching, the other main love in her life was her church. She joined First United Methodist Church in the 1920's and was an active member for over 85 years. She received a Certificate of Appreciation for 27 years of service as a communion steward. She prided herself in making the unleavened bread used at the communion services. Nell was also an accomplished seamstress and avid bridge player.

Nell Davis Frost was preceded in death by her husband and four of her five siblings (3 brothers, I sister). She is survived by her youngest sister, Ella Max Medlin; her son, H.G. "Jack' Frost, Jr.; her two granddaughters and their husbands, Becky and Steve Good and Tricia and Stephen Chaffin; her five great-grandchildren, Beverly and Christopher Good and Patrick, Alex, and Matthew Chaffin; her former daughter-in-law, Patsy Watts Frost; and numerous nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating her inspirational life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to FUMC - Nell Davis Frost Education Fund, 723 Center St., Little Rock, 72201

Douglas Lathan Easterling

Douglas Lathan Easterling, 62, of Little Rock, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. He was born in Prescott on January 20, 1943 to Douglas Edward and Helen Jones Easterling.

He was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Junior Deacon at Albert Pike Lodge #714. He was also a member of the Joan Hunting Club of Arkadelphia, and was an Eagle Scout.

He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Edward Easterling. Survivors include his mother, Helen Jones Easterling of Trinity, TX; daughter, Olivia Lea Easterling and her mother Kaye Phillips, both of Little Rock; sister, Sandy White and husband Don of Trinity, TX; sister-in-law, Beth Leake of Little Rock; nieces, Jacquelyn Compton, Lynda O'Neill, and Lisa Rothe; nephew, Buddy White; 11 great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Ruebel Funeral Home. Memorial services with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church. The family will be at 4820 Country Club Boulevard in Little Rock.

Elizabeth Smith Dowell

Elizabeth Smith Dowell, of Little Rock, died Saturday, February 5, 2004, at the age of 98. "Edy", as she was affectionately known, was born December 8, 1906 in Crossett, AR to Arthur and Jimmie Smith. Her family moved to Little Rock, where she graduated from Little Rock High School and later attended the University of Arkansas Fayetteville and was member of Chi Omega Sorority. It was in Little Rock that she met her future husband, Dudley Dowell, whose career in Insurance led them to Butte, Montana, Seattle, WA, Pittsburgh, PA and Bronxville, NY, leaving many good friends in their wake. With the help of Elizabeth's undying devotion, Dudley rose through the ranks of the New York Life Insurance Company to become the president from 1962 to 1969. Upon his retirement they moved to Eden Isle, AR, making many life long friends. Elizabeth continued to live at Eden Isle for several years following Dudley's death in 1979. She moved to Little Rock in 1986, where she resided until her death.

Elizabeth was a member of The Junior League in Seattle, Pittsburgh, New York City and Little Rock. She was actively involved in The Big Sisters organization in New York City, which she found very rewarding. Upon relocating to Heber Springs, Elizabeth developed her talent for oil painting and golf.

Elizabeth and Dudley were life long members of the Episcopal Church and were actively involved in the formation of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Heber Springs. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, and also a member of the Little Rock Musical Coterie and the Pulaski County Republican Women.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Dudley Dowell, Jr., of Cumming, Iowa, and daughter Dana Dowell Judkins and her husband, Bill, of Little Rock. Grandchildren are Hunter Judkins, of Fairbanks, AK, Jeffery Judkins, of Portland, OR, Dudley Dowell III, of Martinez, CA, David Dowell, of Los Angeles, CA, and Dana Windatt, of Moraga, CA. She is survived by nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her long time friend and companion, Donnie Sartain of Little Rock.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 10, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock with Reverend Henry Hudson officiating. Following will be a reception in the adjoining Morrison Hall. Graveside services will also be held Thursday at Cleburne County Memorial Gardens, Heber Springs, at 3:00 p.m., with Reverend Andy Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church in Heber Springs or Trinity Cathedral in Little Rock.

Philip E. Dixon

Philip E. Dixon, 72, of Little Rock died Friday, February 25, 2005. He was born in Little Rock on March 26, 1932. He attended Hendrix College (B.A., 1954) and the University of Arkansas School of Law (LL.B. 1959). He was admitted to the bar in 1959. He was a member of the Litigation Section and was Of-Counsel with Dover Dixon Horne PLLC. He has been listed several times in the book "The Best Lawyers in America". He was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation and the Arkansas Bar Foundation. He pursued trial practice as his specialty. In his career as a trial lawyer Phil had extensive experience, especially in the area of personal injury litigation, and generally for the defense. His experience as a trial lawyer also included an emphasis on domestic relations to such a degree that he is often asked to lecture on that subject. He was awarded the C.E. Ransick Award of Excellence in 1994 and Outstanding Lawyer for the year 2000.

Phil served in many bar-related and civic activities, including President of the Arkansas Bar Association, Secretary-Treasurer of the Arkansas Bar Association, President of the Pulaski County Bar Association, Director of Arkansas' Seventh Constitutional Convention, Bar Examiners Committee of the Arkansas Supreme Court, Member of the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, Member of the Arkansas Association of Defense Counsel, Member of Arkansas Self-Insurers Association, President of United Methodist Foundation, and member of Methodist Foundation Board, member of the Board of Trustees of Hendrix College, Trustee of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Chairman of the Official Board of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, and President of the Arkansas Epilepsy Society. He was a retired commander in the U. S. Naval Reserve.

He was a devoted father, husband and grandfather who was an avid outdoorsman, loved all types of music, but especially southern gospel, and was a big Razorback fan. He was a friend to all he met and was for decades a fixture at the front doors of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where he was a usher.

Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Woodford Dixon. He is survived by his children: Philip Woodford Dixon, Randall Franklin Dixon and his wife, April, Ann Duval Dixon Pyle, and her husband, Hoyte all of Little Rock, two sisters, Barbara Dixon Bevels of N. Charleston, SC and Mimi Dixon Gillespie of Fullerton, CA and grandchildren, Lauren Ann and Heath Dixon Pyle and Rebecca Susan and Leslie Elizabeth Dixon.

A visitation will be held from 1-3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, 72205, the Arkansas Bar Foundation, 400 W. Markham, Little Rock, 72201 or Hendrix College, 1600 Washington, Ave. Conway, AR 72032.

Anna Lou DeClue

Anna Lou DeClue, 85, of Little Rock went to be with her Lord and family with her daughter by her side, February 28, 2005. She was born March 17, 1919 to the late John and Gertrude Holt of Conway, where she resided for 20 years. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Merle DeClue.

She is survived by her only daughter Carol Ann Pasvogel, two nieces Sue Brown and Carolyn Nichols, and a nephew Raymond DeClue, Jr., all of Little Rock.

Mrs. DeClue was a life long member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church and an active member of the Agape Sunday School Class.

She worked for many years beside her husband in the family dry cleaning business, Price Gordon Laundry and Cleaners. For 15 years she was a sales associate for M.M. Cohns. She was a resident of Parkview Rehab.

The family sincerely thanks the staff at Parkview and Dr. Abdelal for the sweet, tender care these three years.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham, Little Rock (666-0123). Funeral services will be Thursday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Hyde officiating followed by entombment at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, Ark. 72205.
